The hotel is ok. Me and my colleague were staying for 3 nights in single rooms on the 5th floor. Rooms seemed to be refurbished few year ago. There was mini bar, TV, electronic clock, but no hair dryer or coffee/tea sets in the rooms. I should say there's not enough plug-in sockets in the room as the existing ones were not even enough for all devices which were already in the room. The wi-fi connection was good, you just have to get a login at the reception.
Breakfast was bit strange, but enough choice for me (it depends a lot on time when you go for it). And most of the dishes, which were supposed to be hot, were cold...
There's small pool and sauna in this hotel, but it's for additional fee and you have to sign up in advance (the day we came it was already unavailable, so later we didn't bother to try and go there).
Regarding sleep quality - I could hear my neighbors shower very well, and if you like to sleep in the morning bit longer - be aware that cleaning ladies start to work early and they don't bother to stay silent :)

Room Tip: All rooms in the 4th and 12th floors are non-smoking. Our 5th floor one side of the corridor was non...

This hotel is in a typical Soviet building, opposite a nice park in Minsk. There are a few restaurants and bars in the hotel (including one advertising striptease), with food of rather average quality (including the breakfast). The rooms are situated on long dark corridors and a bit worn out. The reception staff were brisk, spoke little English but seemed quite efficient. Single male guests can expect phone calls around midnight from ladies offering company. Hotel Planeta is probably not the nicest hotel in Minsk but the location is convenient and overall experience interesting.

I stayed here in business in 2011, on my first visit to Minsk. Though certainly not a hotel I would recommend for its quality, I found it strangely interesting, and I would stay he again. It's a typical Soviet-style building as other reviews have said. Rooms are basic, breakfast was basic and the staff were pretty charmless. However, the location is great for the city centre, and it is directly opposite a beautiful city centre park and the famous war memorial. I also recommend you take a right turn out of the hotel and walk down Pobeditelei Ave (approx 10 mins) to the Russian department store on the corner, which is a real throw back to the 70s.

I wanted my teenage son to sample what the Cold War had been about so took him for a weekend in Minsk. Deliberately chose this hotel because it was said to be a Soviet classic. Hotel Planeta didn't let me down.Men in dark suits sitting around in reception with no apparent purpose other than watching the guests,a breakfast free of any capitalist influences,1950 design bedrooms etc etc.But the beds were comfortable, everywhere was clean,it was warm, maybe too warm at times, the reception staff spoke English and were helpful and (small fanfare) there was free wifi that worked well.I thought the price was reasonable for what it was.

You most likely do not exspect a first class hotel for this price but in comperrion to other hotels in this class there is a lot of potential for improvement. The positive side is the staff who is helpful and attentive. on the more negative side . the hotel needs renovation, the rooms are worn down, the heating did not work (ouside tempreture 1 Degree C) as it seemed to be too early in the year for central heating, the meeting rooms were freezing.

It's a reasonably well located hotel close to the main attractions of tourist interest in the city of Minsk. It is a grand old hotel, but within the city meets perfeitamento options. It is possible to communicate reasonably with the hotel staff in English.

We stayed for a single night while on a bus tour. As many other reviewers have stated, this hotel is very much in the USSR style.

The first room we were assigned smelled as if a waterlogged ashtray had sat under the bed for about 6 months. Fortunately we were able to switch to an identical, non stinky room. The room key is an actual key on a very heavy key chain (we figure about 2 pounds). The room we had was very small with two single beds perpendicular to each other. The only place to set a suitcase was on the floor - bit of a tripping hazard. The windows open very wide and are your only option for ventilation. No fans or air conditioning.

The bathroom is also tiny but sufficient. Our shower head rotated on it's own and succeeded in soaking the entire bathroom.

We found the breakfast very heavy on unidentifiable fried meats.

Overall, it's relatively clean but if you have another option I suggest you take it.
