“Not that bad”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

The location in the inner ring road is easy to find. The employees at the reception speak several languages and are very friendly and efficient. The rooms are clean a large enough. I had a great view to Minsk from room 409. In a backyard they have a parking lot where I parked the Harley. Safety is not an issue at all in Belarus.
Internet is free, but the signals are not everywhere good enough.
In the next building a night club offer all you need for relaxing

The Hotel Orbita is located on a ring road outside of the city centre of Minsk, but is easily reached by car or by the metro system (four stops from the centre with the Pushkinskaya station immediately outside of the hotel for just BYR2500 / €0.20). There is a Mcdonald’s restaurant opposite together with other shops and eating places.

My room was comfortable with bed, desk, fridge, and well-lit. The tv had some international channels including BBC World News. The bathroom was fine. My room was at the front of the building and there was some road noise.

Wifi internet was available for BYR10000 (€0.83) for ten hours and was fairly adequate and reliable except for videoclips and large files.

Breakfast was available in a sparsely-occupied large restaurant decked-out as a ballroom but lacking any atmosphere. The food was average with hot and cold meat and vegetables, coffee, tea, watery fruit juices and a few pastries/cakes – not as good of a range as I’ve had elsewhere in Belarus. There was also a lobby snack bar that seemed popular as smokers were allowed there.

One evening, I used the hotel’s café/pizzeria. I was the only customer and it was rather depressing as a result with only a big screen tv for company. The food was good though with a wide range of pizzas and other meals, at good prices and well made, with a menu with English translation – a rarity indeed.

The reception staff spoke English and were very friendly and helpful.

OK, I know we are in Belarus, so a certain kind of Soviet approach should be considered, and in general I could also appreciate it. But, at Soviet time (or just a few years after), those hotels intended for foreign guests were maybe a bit strange, but with up to date features and most of the time good restaurants. This was my experience, at least.
Well, it is not the case.
Let's start from a stupid thing: the bill for one room (single, not so large and not so comfortable) was 870.000 rubles per night (about 70 EUR): why wifi connection should be paid separately, for a total of 4.200 rubles per 3 hours (total less than 35 EURO CENTS) ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
And, also, wifi connection is not really fast......
More, the breakfast is in a so called restaurant on the first floor, but with separate stairs that go up not from reception hall, but from another, aside; there you should also be able to eat for dinner; OK I had breakfast there for two days, and I can assure you that based on this experience I would never have gone there for a dinner!
Easy to say that if the best hotels in Minsk are 250 EUR worth (5 stars), what you can expect from an hotel with a fare of about 70 EUR......this is right, on the other side, it is anyway reported as three star........
In the end, it is advisable only if your first requirement is a cheap accomodation.

This place won't win any awards for outside appearance or architecture but was OK to stay in. It is a bit outside the centre but is next door to a subway station which is fast and frequent. Our room was clean and comfortable, if a bit stuffy but out tour operator chose the room so we probably got a 'cheap' room. Staff on reception were helpful and could speak English. Breakfast had enough variety but was in a dark and dingy canteen style room.

Room Tip: choose a room with air-con if staying in the Summer

The Hotel looks like a drab Soviet era hotel and a bit far from the center of town, however easily accessed by the subway. Found the staff were very friendly and looked like supermodels. They had a good buffet breakfast.

If it was completely my choice I would definitely pick up another hotel in Minsk, this one is very Soviet. Awful ugly interiors & decoration in the rooms, soviet standards of service like long procedure of room control on check-out.
However it wasn't very bad, rooms clean, breakfasts very nice although very crowded so each cup of coffee was obtained after 10 min waiting in line.

I wondered where to stay in Minsk, so I sent e-mails to several hotels. Orbita responded very fast (within 2 hours) and gave me booking confirmation, which I could submit to Belorussian embassy and get visa.

It was nice that can check it already at 1200 and no need to wait till 1400 or so. There was some renovations going on the eleventh floor and the staff apologized about the noise, but there was never any noise. Hotel is right next to Pushinskaya station or if you come from Vilnius you will pass this hotel. Rooms and bathrooms were very clean. In winter I appreciated warm bed cover.

Temperature in room could not be regulated as I wished, but it was warm. There is no cabled or wifi internet. Need to use Beltel wifi, which is stable to access in lobby. So, don’t count on some serious interneting in your room.

Breakfast was big and had wide range of variety of food that you can actually call it lunch. I especially liked birch juice and apple juice, which was so thick that I think it was homemade. Anyway I was getting so much plenty with food.

Room Tip: top is better, but wifi will be weaker. Don't count on wifi in the room.
