“Above the rooftops of the city”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

The hotel building with its 19 floors is one of the dominant buildings in Tirana. The rooftop terrace has a bar, but also houses the breakfast room. From there one has a panoramic view of Tirana. Since the parking situation in Tirana is very difficult, you will be glad to have your car stowed away in the free secure underground car park of the hotel, although it is cramped and the driveway is steep and somewhat difficult to manage. The lift in the hotel runs quickly and is reliable.

The house is centrally located and is within walking distance of both the city center and the Bloku district. The Taiwan Center and the Rina Park are nearby. As the hotel building is quite high, it can be found easily in spite of a lack of hotel signs.

The front desk staff was friendly. Complaints were responded to very quickly (e.g. locked safe on arrival).

Breakfast was in buffet style, although the hotel seemed to have but few guests at the time of our stay. The quality of the food was good.

We were granted a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe room on the top floor with a nice view of the city. The room was very spacious and equipped with everything you would expect from a good 4-star hotel. It was especially striking that everything worked, including the quiet and effective air conditioning. There was a large flat screen TV. It was a pity that the balcony door of the room was locked for safety reasons (low guard rail). The wireless network in the room provided fast internet access.

The hotel is certainly one of the finest in Tirana and can be recommended without restrictions. The only thing we missed was a swimming-pool.

Room Tip: An upper or top floor room should be your best choice due to the great views

We traveled to this hotel as a part of a tour of the Balkans and it was by far the nicest place we stayed. The hotel is located in one of the best parts of the city, the staff is friendly, the rooms are very comfortable, and the view from the restaurant at the top of the tower is outstanding. When traveling to Tirane, this is the place to stay.

Location - located in the heart of the government buildings and restaurant & bar area you cannot go wrong with this hotel.

Service - professional but cold, not engaging enough and at times defensive even when asking a question or making a suggestion.

Rooms - spacious and modern. The bed was arguably the best hotel bed we have slept in during our trip.

Bathrooms were modern too with shower over bath - however there was no bath plug. We asked three different staff on three separate occasions without success, finally an ugly black plastic plug turns up! Also you need to bend a bit (not good for your back) when showering as the shower head over the bath is not positioned correctly.

Value - good value for money compare to other hotels in the vicinity with high speed internet (included in the rate) and breakfast (included in the room rate)

Some room for improvement:
- staff did not smile, except George (porter) who was very friendly
- not all staff wore name badges, so not sure were you were speaking to
- no iron/iron board in (shared between 38 rooms) a bit surprising for a 4 star hotel

The hotel rooms don't offer great views as they are located in the first two floors of the hotel - however the Sky Club where they serve breakfast makes up for the lack of views.

I love this hotel.
Big spacious new rooms on the 15th floor. Beautiful outdoor shaded seating upstairs. Breakfast was AWESOME. (as far as the rest of Albania goes, it is awesome). Very, Very, Very nice staff. Very nice. The receptionist planned our whole trip using a big picture book they keep a the front desk, she was awesome. The Sky Hotel in the center, so all that touristy stuff is 2 blocks away, as are all the good restaurants. Vibrant area too, attractive people everywhere. French patisserie across the street with very good Fauchon tea, but so-so pastries. Rent your car at the 2nd floor travel agency next to the french place. just go in the doors and go up a flight of stairs. Wilma is very nice. The views are excellent.

Just one bone to pick...I had some teeshirts and undies washed...$50. I almost cried.

Having just traveled the rugged north where our son is serving in the Peace Corps, we were delighted with our choice of the Sky Hotel in Tirana.

The rooms were spacious, comfortable and sedately decorated. Mattresses were memory foam and the beds were low to the ground - fine for me, a little tough for my tall husband. We loved the amenities that were changed everyday: toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable shavers and shaving cream, shoe shine kits and emery boards. They do not provide cream rinse so if that's a staple for you, bring your own. The hair dryer in the bathroom was a little unwieldy but serviceable.

There were robes in the closet and a fabulous comforter. We pulled the comforter out the first night and the next night the maid thoughtfully made it on the bed. The only problem we ran into were the key card activated electricity. We left the iPad charging only to realiz that taking the card with us had shut down the electricity. Thankfully, the Sky Hotel also provided old fashioned keys if you requested them. That way we could leave electronics charging while keeping our room safe. Just make sure you return both keys upon departure since there is a steep charge for losing them.

All in all, the accommodations were modern, comfortable and lovely. But then there was the fun stuff!

We had rented a very small car for our trip. When we drove into the underground parking lot at the Sky Hotel a dapper older gentleman resplendent in a maroon uniform and jauntily cocked hat directed us to a parking space that we swore was even smaller than our car. Not only that - the giant SUV in the adjoining space was parked at an angle. While we insisted we could not get in (in English) our guide insisted we could (in animated sign language). My husband took the wheel and miraculously he fit our square little car in the triangular space. I can't say he did this with ease but as a spectator I can attest to the absolutely delightful entertainment value of the maroon uniformed parking guard motioning and hollering at my husband. In the end, the two men beamed at one another, delighted with their cooperative effort (one hint - get your suitcases out of the car before you park - they make you back in). That set the tone for our stay.

Upstairs at the desk we were assisted by delightful young ladies but it was Gyergie who toted our bags, shook our hands, passed a few minutes in conversation - he trying out his English, we offering the few words of Sqhip. I'm not sure he ever slept because he was always there, shining a most glorious smile our way.

On the ground floor was a bar where you could get coffee or drinks. I often took my computer down there to do a little work. I didn't get much done because people watching was far too fascinating. There were the requisite knots of gentlemen drinking coffee, smoking and watching soccer on the TV, but sometimes the place was animated with conversations. The old gentleman in a grey suit and sweater vest, his tie in place having a quiet conversation with an older woman. A young man in a blue shirt that stretched tightly over his back, a gold ring on his finger, his hair cut just so, speaking to a young and beautiful woman. I didn't have to understand the language to know there was just a bit of seduction going on. Behind me, a man frantically insisting in broken English that he had lived in the United States so he was the right person for the job. Outside the window, the wind blew, the rain fell, there was thunder and lightening and I felt as if I had sat in that coffee bar all my life.

Upstairs, did not disappoint either. The hotel itself was three stories. From the lobby you went to an adjacent building and took a glass elevator to the Sky Bar. The elevator opened onto a long tiled patio peppered with red cushioned rattan love seats and tables in between. My husband and son went there for some guy time and I would come upon them engrossed in conversation, jackets on in the open air patio.

Choose the door at the end of that outdoor room and you were deposited onto a sweep of a patio overlooking the city - our last night we watched a fabulous sunset over the city of Tirana from that vantage point. Breathtaking!

Choose the door to your right when you get off the elevator and you are in the restaurant/bar. The restaurant is to the right. We only ate breakfast there (quite nice, typical European fare with meat, cheese, brek, crepes, rolls, yogurt) but the room was beautifully appointed with high backed chairs upholstered in red and white fabric that gave it a fresh look. The inside bar was very comfortable and definitely popular with the locals. Everywhere is smoke filled and, somehow, in Albania it seems perfectly natural.

From the bar you could go upstairs to the Sky Bar proper - a rotating round room that gave you a 360 degree view of Tirana. It moves very slowly, more than two glasses of wine slow.

We loved our time at the Sky Hotel. It was centrally located so we could 'gyro' to The Block - fancy shops and fashionable clothes - or to any other quarter of this easy to walk city. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask to stay on the second floor. Some of the rooms have serviceable balconies with chairs. We had a...

The place is located in the heart of Bar\Restaurant area and all the fun you can find in Tirana. This is the area known as "The Block" or "Blloku" in Albanian. The hotel itself is contemporary and has a great restaurant on the top floor with a revolving bar on the rooftop.

Hotel advertises a free garage, and it has one, but when you drive into it - the parking attendants will tell you there is no room and want you to go and part across town.
Knowing a local guy, I was able to make it into the garage and just found out that it was half empty. (Eastern mentality has not changed much since I left the country in 1994).

The person at the counter was half asleep and not really up for the task.
Lobby attendant (Gjergji) was a great guy with a smiley face and offered a friendly service.
Wait staff at the restaurant were also very good.

Management should look into this and not let small things ruin the otherwise a great hotel.
