Owner description: This large and bustling market hall offers local farm products, handicrafts, souvenirs and a variety of fish and food products.

Located in the heart of Papeete not far from the ferry building you will find Tahiti's version of a farmer's market. The reasonably priced local food offerings are a plenty. And at lunch time, everyone seems to come for a local meal. Fresh flower leis and flower tiaras are made on the premises and quite reasonably priced. My wife purchased a flower tiara which was the envy of nearly every woman on our Windstar cruise. Lasted about three days as well. A definite must see.

I think we arrived late.... We got there around noon. We were told it was a food, and flower marche, but there were no fresh flowers in sight. It did have a nice fruit and vegetable area.
As far as the area around the marche, it was a lot of typical tourist stalls, with most goods made in China, rather than in Tahiti, which was very disappointing. I was looking for a woven bag, and other unique to Tahiti items, and wasn't able to find anything of quality.

This is better than a number of island markets we have been (Tonga,NC,Vanuatu) in that the food is nice and varied. Neims of course (yum) but also eclairs and such. Lovely flowers. We were in transit Papeete to Moorea and found this a nice interlude before boarding the boat. 200xfp for yum bananas (10 as I got a topup) that kept me going for snacks for 4 days (support locals I say). Do pop upstairs and take a pic or two. Just outside was a drink spot with 5 guys playing local music - just great to sit and enjoy a coffee and their song before the boat (500 xfp tip to support their endeavour). Easy to be in the moment (felt safe, people in Papeete friendlier than other island too)

We were told by some locals to come to the market early on Sunday morning (5am-7am) and it was SO worth it. While many places will tell you that the market is closed on Sundays, this is when all of the locals come to sell their fish, veges, food and local sweets. The market opens at 4am on a Sunday and it’s an amazing experience if you like markets. There are even a few flower stalls too. Make sure you take cash - there is no credit cards accepted but an ATM close by. Definitely get there early from 7am onwards the market slows down and people begin to pack up.

Fun vibe to this market. Lots of selection/variety. Shops selling carvings, pareos, coconut products, pearls, and shells. Great place to spend a few hours and pick up last minute gifts while waiting for your plane to depart.
