“Great way to get to Moorea”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

We took the Amereti 5 to Moorea. Everything was super easy. When we pulled up to the dock we were helped putting our luggage into the cart. The girl working the ticket booth was very efficient and helpful. The waiting area is open air and there is a snack bar. The ferry was extrememly clean. Lots of seating options. You can sit in the sun up top, in airplane like seats or at tables if you want to enjoy a snack on board. We had a croissant and it was very good. The sodas and beers look really cold but they are not! That was the only disappointment of the ferry.

“Not what I was expecting - better!!”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

Reserved our tickets in advance as we were taking a car to Moorea. Highly recommend that if you are driving over. Where to line up was a little nerve wreaking as it seemed that some people in our line went over to the fast boat and we were in line for the slow boat. We watched everyone else and saw that passengers were to get out of the car and board separate from the car/driver. We showed up an hour early to make sure we got on.

Ferry loading was much less orderly than in other countries - let's call it self guided, so let your strongest driver do the load up of the car. We all met up stairs and it was so nice inside! We were on the newer slow boat. There are lots of seats with tables, and those without - you can sit up on the top deck outside too. Hot food and drinks are available for purchase. Bathrooms are spotless and have toilet paper. Bathrooms at ferry terminal are a bit less clean, but fine and some stalls had paper.

Ride was solid to Moorea- but we had good weather. When the ferry is preparing to land all passengers return to their cars unlike loading. Return trip - lots of craziness! Several boat companies all land at the same docks so a bit confusing on where to go, but Aremtiti was at the far outer end of the bay. There are about 5 lines of cars that have to narrow down into one loading lane, which happens to cross over the unloading lanes of the fast boat. Felt like chaos, but my husband was great and went with the flow and no damage to our borrowed car! :) He ended up on the second level car deck which is a ramp that lowers down - with no traffic director he figured it all out. When we unloaded back at Papeete, a guy supposedly looked in our car to see if our parking break was on before the ramp lowered with all of us and our car on it---eeeek! But it worked out and we fought our way onto the slip and back onto land. I am used to the Washington State Ferry system and it's very orderly so this was kind of unnerving to me - hubby loved it!

For a family of 4 and our car it was about $250 us dollars - so not cheap but we loved having a car for our four days on Moorea. And we could bring all our snorkel stuff, food, etc. making us very flexible in our activities. Smooth ride, clean nice boat, food on board, bathrooms- good choice!
