We were staying at the Tahiti Nui for a night after our trip on the Aranui and opted for dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. Based on reviews, and the excellent service we had received from the hotel’s reception, we were expecting the same high standards in the restaurant.
The initial service was marginal at best. Our young server seemed untrained and unable to answer any questions. We watched people who came in after us get bread while we waited for our water. Our white wine had not been previously refrigerated but given the wait for our food, it cooled down. The restaurant had a selection of vegetarian pasta dishes and while the pasta with red pepper I ordered came with pasta and sun-dried tomatoes, it was tasty as was the risotto and the lamb.
I would not recommend a special trip to Velvet but if you are staying in the hotel, have a money to spend and are too tired to go out, then it is a reasonable option.

Fancy, fancy, and delicious. Started with chef's amuse bouche, then lovely entrees, good wine and service, wonderful dessert.
would definitely return. Maruru!

We spent a night in Hotel Tahiti Nui on our way home after a week in Bora Bora. We arrived fairly late so couldn't be bothered going out to find food so ate dinner at the hotel restaurant. We absolutely loved it.....best meal that we had all eaten in the entire time in Tahiti. Perfectly cooked filet mignon with fantastic mozzarella risotto followed by a decadent but not too rich chocolate mousse. My mouth is watering just remembering how good it was.....

I mean...first I had to go back at our room just because I was wearing flip flops and after it was so unpleasant. A lot of young people drinking there and speaking out loud with no respect. Hopefully we did only stay one night at this hotel (no view and no beach, it's in the "city" of papeete).
