“convenient and noisy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2011

Stayed here for one night on a stopover to Moorea. We had the jr suite on the 4th floor facing the next door gas station/ convenience store. The room itself was nice and comfortable like a one- bedroom apartment with living room, a full kitchen and bathroom. The hallway leading to the rooms was very dark at night. Should have brought a flashlight as mentioned in previous reviews. Did not have a good night sleep since it gets very noisy at night with the bar music downstairs and especially with tons of traffic (scooters, mostly) going in and out of the busy gas station.
Walking distance to the municipal market (got breakfast there), Vaiete Place, ferry dock, etc. Unfortunately, we were there on Easter Sunday which means a dead downtown area. We got bored walking from hotel to Paofai and back. All the stores were closed except for 2 restaurants and churches. We couldn't wait to get to Moorea.
Overall, a nice hotel. Just avoid the front and side street facing rooms.

Ia orana,

First of all, let me thank you for your comments shared on Trip Advisor!
We are glad to read that you enjoyed your stay at the Hotel Tahiti Nui except the noise due to the street.
As we are located in the center, some of our rooms are facing to the street and could be noisy but we also have rooms with a Mountain view which is quiet and maybe more comfortable for some of our guests.

We booked the Hotel Tahiti Nui base on the reviews. I must say that all the reviews were true.
Hotel is nice and modern and is located right in the middle of Papeete town. For those taking a cruise, I would highly recommend this hotel because it is within walking distance to the cruise port.
I am sure many of you will share by views, basically Papeete is use as a stopover for connecting to other islands. We booked the Hotel Tahiti Nui because we were taking a cruise. The surrounding of the hotel looks really sad but it serves the purpose for a stopover.
We actually booked the 2 bedroom suite and is was really beautiful. The suite has a large sitting room and a well equip kitchen and both the bedrooms are located on the second floor. As we are know, everything is expensive here in Tahiti, so we made used of the kitchen to have our breakfast and we also manage to cook a simple meal. There is a small supermarket just next to the hotel.
Swimming pool was decent and there was a reasonable size gym too.
For those we would prefer eating out without spending a bomb. The is a open air night market serving all kinds of food near the port at reasonable and acceptable price.I would recommend this hotel for a short stay or quick stopover.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a Bora Bora and Moorea holiday. We paid approximately XPF17,500 per night. The plan was to see the culture of the Tahiti main island and the mix between French and Polynesian. We arrived late one night and had one full day, which was all that was needed to explore the town, go to the pearl museum, and purchase great priced pearls (a much better range and prices than the on the islands).

The Hotel Tahiti Nui is in a great location for exploring the city or getting to the port - we walked with our luggage to the Moorea ferry in under 15 minutes. Our standard room was very nice, a good size with a comfortable bed and nice balcony overlooking the mountains. There is a mini bar and safe in the room and a tv but there is only 1 or 2 English channels (no CNN) and none of our English channels worked when we were there. We weren’t there to watch tv so didn’t really care. The shower didn’t empty as effectively as we would have liked so we ended up with water up to our ankles when we showered.

There is a restaurant on site but I wouldn't recomment it. While the food is quite nice, the service is less than average - the night we went there were more staff than customers and they just spent the majority of the time talking to eachother. The atmosphere is worse - its like a night club with loud inappropriate dining music and such dim lighting you cant see what you are eating. And no, they wont change the music or the lighting if you ask.
There is however a nice pool area and lovely views of the mountains from the back rooms of the hotel. There is a service station next door with a small supermarket style area where you can avoid the high mini bar drink prices and get basic breakfast items such as cereal, juice and yogurt - great value.

We found the hotel very secure, quiet and the reception staff pleasant to deal with. It was a lovely oasis in the middle of Papette. We saw a few hotels while exploring the city and this was the best by far.

We stayed here between leaving our cruise ship and catching our flight home. Our room was very clean, modern and spacious with great bedding, with a balcony overlooking the mountains. The location is ideal for shopping downtown.

The only negative feature we found was the absence of any staff to handle baggage.

We were here for just an overnight stay between our flight from Moorea and the flight back home to the US. If you’re looking for a hotel right next to the airport, this isn’t it. I’d guess that it’s about a 20 minute ride to downtown Papeete. But for the few extra minutes, it’s a lovely experience.
We arrived after 10pm. The lobby was darkened, but the night clerk was personable, quick and efficient, and had excellent English. If you arrive at night on the upper floors, the only light comes from small blue fixtures in the doorways. Once your eyes adjust, you can see the numbers on the rooms. It’s a bit eerie, but stunning. It also cuts down on the unnecessary use of electricity.
The room is all done in black, white and grey. Everything is either a square, rectangle or a circle. I have never been in a more attractive hotel room. There is also a balcony with chairs and a table and a view of the city. Breakfast starts early and is bountiful. They will make eggs for you in addition to the buffet.
It’s a short walk to the marketplace where you can buy food (the fruit is amazing), clothing, and souvenirs. You can buy Tahiti’s famous black pearls in shops close to the market. You’ll also find a pharmacy and a few banks within walking distance.
I can’t speak to the other hotel amenities because we weren’t there long enough, but I wouldn’t have missed the interior decoration and architecture of this boutique hotel.

This is a great Hotel right in the middle of the town and only 5 minutes walk to the ferry terminals and Cruise boat departure points.
Very new, clean large rooms with a desk and lounge and FREE Internet connection (Lan connection not wireless).
Perfect if you are doing business in town and don't need the resort style accommodation, which I have found to be old and run down anyway.
Pool and gym are very nice, not huge but more that suitable.
I will definatly stay here again and again when in town doing business.

My wife, teenage son and I spent two nights at the Hotel Tahiti Nui in January 2011 on our way to/from the Hilton Bora Bora Nui resort.

We arrived at approximately 11.00pm on our first night and after a long day of travel we were immediately impressed by the friendliness and attitude of the reception staff. Our room was modern, clean and well furnished. The King Size bed was comfortable with crisp white sheets. When daylight arrived we marvelled at the spectacular view of the mountains from our balcony. We had to check-out at 10.30am for our trip to Bora Bora, but we managed to navigate the chaotic traffic and walk to the Harbour & Pomare Blvd, approx 10 minutes away for a quick site seeing tour. We followed this up with breakfast in the Hotel Restaurant which was excellent. We looked forward to our return stay on the way back from Bora Bora.

We arrived back at Hotel Tahiti Nui early afternoon which gave us more time to explore the hotel and Papeete. Before we could do anything, the hungry teenager wanted food, so with our passports and valuables securely locked away at reception, and a couple of recommendations for lunch we headed down to the Boulevard Pomare.

The best way to describe the traffic is organised chaos, you have to actually put a foot on the Zebra Crossings and hope the cars will stop! The majority of buildings are old and rundown and heavily shuttered after hours. Outside of the 5 Star resorts this is a third world country and not what you would expect from the general perception of Tahiti.

After lunch, we checked out the local market and shops before returning to the hotel. Later, we had a workout in the very well equipped fitness centre and spent an hour or so in the pool with great views of the mountains.

For our last night we booked into the Hotels "Velvet" Restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised by the exceptional service, quality of food and the reasonable pricing (for Tahiti). We had just spent 8 nights at the Hilton and the Hotel Tahiti Nui blew them out of the water.

If we ever return to Tahiti, we will definitely stay at the Hotel Tahiti Nui, great staff, friendly service, clean modern rooms, comfortable beds, quality restaurant, nice pool & well equipped fitness centre.
