“Small slice of paradise”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

From start to finish the staff at the Bedarra were superb. They create a friendly and homely atmosphere, and nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms (kids aged 18 & 13 were in room next to us) had been recently refurbished, and they were very large. I had anticipated going a number of tours however they were quite expensive. Not a problem as we snorkelled and kayaked on most days which was free. When the tide is in the reef is a fabulous place to check out the tropical fish, and when it's out there's always cocktails by the pool. Between 5 and 6pm is the best time as drinks are half price. The Bedarra is a great place to "tune out", read a book (they have a small library of books) and totally relax. We ate there for dinner every night over 9 nights, and weren't disappointed with the menu choices and food at all. The massages were great, so we booked extra massages instead of going on tours. Our 18 year old noted the lack of teenagers there, and there wasn't a lot for him to do, however he was content to catch some rays by the pool on most days. The 13 year old also loved the pool, and spent a lot of time swimming. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a relaxing holiday in a quiet and idyllic setting.

my husband and I stayed on the coral coast at fiji for a week in March,We chose to stay there as we wanted some where quiet and Bedarra got such great reviews from trip advisor. We were not disappointed never have we stayed anywhere that had such personalised service. The staff were just amazing and went above and beyond to make your stay memorable. The food was the best we have ever had anywhere we have travelled gourmet beautifully presented and very reasonably priced. Our room was a deluxe king very spacious clean but simply furnished .It was nice not to have tv instead we lingered over cocktails with the other guests making the stay more personalised and enjoyable..There is a lovely beach just across the road it was so lovely to lie back on the lounges and while away the time with a book and watch the local ladies waist deep in water fishing.I can thoroughly recommend this beatiful inn to anyone who needs a quiet relaxing break with exemplary service and the best food EVER

Everything was perfect! We could relax very well because of the wonderful staff.
The rooms were very clean.
Service is great! The restaurant offers a fantastic view to the sea and the food is very delicious. It is the best in Fiji.

We where completely bowled over by the welcome. They came and met us from the taxi and took our bags to reception where the band where waiting for us with a welcome song. We where given a welcome drink and a full low down of everything. Best welcome ever! Our room was really big with air con, fan and balcony. It was clean but a little worn. The bathroom had a bit of an odd smell to it, kind of like burning hair which was odd. The bathroom was the most worn of all and defiantly needs a refurb. But the shower was big and the toilet worked so it wasn't a big issue. The fridge was great of keeping water cold but it was really noisy at night. Our room was a little noisy as it was right by the stairs and people seem to stamp up them. Plus the walls just generally aren't that sound proof. Free foot massage from the spa was a nice touch. The ladies in there are lovely. I got a pedicure done and the woman did a great job. What makes this place is the staff. They are amazing. Food was generally all good, although on our last night my husband had the special and didn't like it as he said it just tasted of nothing but garlic. But there are other restaurants nearby so it's not like you are stuck for choice. We both felt that at breakfast tea and coffee should have been free, just because it was the same as the ones given in the room that were free, all they were doing is boiling the kettle for you. Also felt that the wifi could be free too. The pool was nice but there weren't many loungers, I'd hate to see it at peak season because even when we were there it was hard to get one. Towels for use round the pool and beach was good, but they should limit it to one towel per person. Some people were using two and by mid morning they had ran out of towels for other guests. We found every night when returning from dinner that our room became home to loads of little baby cockroaches. Every night I think we had at least four and sometimes up to nine during our four night stay. Think they need to put insect repellent down or at least make the gap between the door and floor a little less. Drinks are fairly cheap and happy hour is a bonus! We had a nice goodbye with a beautiful farewell song and a lovely chat to one of the owners who was working behind reception.

We came on the basis of previous reviews and were certainly not disappointed. Like others who have left reviews I stay at many good hotels and it takes a lot to stand out. This does.
Fabulous staff are the main thing that make this an exceptional experience.
Really great evening meals are also notable (though breakfast could be more interesting with home made jams and some Indian and Fijian options).
This is not the place to come to if you want 5 star glitz, discos, water slides and television, but if you want a quiet holiday with people who actually care that you have a nice time you won't do better

Room Tip: We stayed in a standard room near the bar. It was fine.

We've recently visited Bedarra for an 8 day visit.
Being an experienced traveller and visiting many of the resorts in Fiji on our travels I can unreservedly state that the presentation and service level at the Inn was of a high standard.
Breakfast is average / simple (not difficult to make eggs) - Lunch and Dinner options are varied and of high quality and great value - happy hour 5 - 6 pm is a must around the communally designed bar layout.
Staff go out of their way to help - very friendly without being pushy.
Reception, Bar, Restaurant and House staff all very accommodating.
Jetin and the girls at reception a marvel at making great suggestions and booking tours.
Johnathon (restaurant & bar) is a scream - worth the trip just to be served with wit and humour.
The Inn is gay friendly - my partner and I were welcomed without any reservations.
Great central location for tours - adjacent resort, restaurants and bars on strip allow choice within walking distance if you want a change of scenery.
Comfortable room with expected facilities - clean and well maintained.
Smaller resort allows more intimate experience of Fiji - not lost in the crowd as one of 500 rooms as in large resort.
Thank you to all staff for a truly memorable holiday.

Room Tip: We had deluxe room - room 17 overlooks beach approx. 100 m away.

This hotel is in a very good area of The Coral Coast close to everything, easy to get around from A to B. The staff are all friendly and from other reviews we have read they really do remember your name and know how to look after you.
The menu could do with a little updating as the Chef is Indian and all the main food has Indian additives. You can ask for them to be left off but that just makes the food bland as they don't have ordinary gravy or anything us Aussies like. No such things as Bangers and Mash, T-Bone Steaks or any other sort of steaks. One thing is the meals are great and a lot of it.
As mentioned before, the staff are very friendly but not the owners of the hotel. One is Australian and we think the other one is American. They both come into the bar every night and sit up in a corner of bar and drink wine together, but never come around and talk to the customers and ask are we having a good time or anything to introduce themselves. All the other tourists talk amongst themselves of what they have been doing during the day.
Apart from all that the hotel is a great place to stay and the rooms are huge.
Would recommend to every one.

Room Tip: Standard Room 21, balcony facing the sea. Deluxe Room 19, corner balcony facing the sea and pool.

PhilFiji, Owner at Bedarra Beach Inn, responded to this review, March 30, 2014
Bula PapaMamaAustralia,

Many thanks for the 5 Star review - greatly appreciated and the staff as always will be pleased to read your comments.

Just a couple of points in the comments made. First regarding the Menu:
There are 17 main dishes in our dinner menu and an additional 7 dishes (offered one per night as a daily special) available. Of those 24 dishes, 5 contain Indian spices and 1 is a serious garlic dish. You are perfectly correct in stating we will "modify" any dish to your liking, but feel you must have missed the BBI House Steak and the Rib Eye Fillet Steak on page 3 & 4 of the menu. Still, it sounds as if Chef managed to impress you and we are happy that you were happy with our food and service.

The second point is the owners (That would be David (Australian) and Phil (Me and proudly a Fiji citizen now). Yes, we do enjoy our wine at the bar most evenings having put in a hard days work (well, David does) behind the scenes in the office. I say "behind the scenes because that's how we run Bedarra. We are not the main attraction and few if any of our guests come to Fiji to chit chat with the likes of us. They come to experience the charm and warmth of the staff and we believe in allowing the staff to set the mood and interact with our guests as if everyone was family.

We are totally available and I'm sure you saw many guests stop by our little corner to get some advice or make a comment. We're also there for the staff should they feel the need to consult us on any point. Otherwise they are the face of Bedarra and I am sure you would agree they do a magnificent job of making everyone welcome and relaxed. You will also have noticed Jiten & Penaia (our duty manager and activities coordinator) circulating the bar during happy hour to chat and find out how everyone's day went and if they can help with planning tomorrow. Again, they are the real people of Fiji and we believe that's what our guests want to experience.

So please don't take it as the owners being rude. Please consider it as our total endorsement of the marvelous job our staff do in spreading the legend of Fiji having the friendliest people in the world.

Vinaka and please come 'home' soon...
Phil
