“Be very careful when you book here!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

I read the reviews just before we flew to Fiji and was looking for an out of the way place to spend our last 4 nights in Fiji before returning to Oz and to WORK!!!! So sorry about using that four letter word!! Namuka Bay Lagoon Resort sounded perfect................not tooooo far from Nadi and the airport, with absolute beach frontage and bure style accom, right by the beach where you could snorkel or fish all day. Environmentally friendly with no power all day...........who cares as we would be in the water all day or walking around the hills and surrounds.
Ha................!!!! WRONG!!! The resort IS by the water and IS isolated and remote...........very close to Shangri La Resort at the beginning of the Coral Coast. All good!! It is 7 kms in from the highway on a rough and hilly dirt road, so make SURE you have a car and don't just get let off on the highway as one poor young tourist did do!! You NEED a GOOD car for the rough road to even find the place.
But..........worse is to come..........our booking, made and paid for online thru Expedia 2 weeks ago now..............did not exist and they were booked out for a wedding from the very next day!!! And we were not the ONLY ones who had booked on line and were told SORRY!!! But we were all allowed to stay that night..............if gone before lunch the next day!! And, after one night on that hard and short bed.............we were glad to move on...........somewhere!! The units are fine but the beds are atrocious and back breaking so we could not stand another night there anyway. Sorry Namuka resort!!
It seems that they do not do their own reservations...........there is a third party involved in Nadi............and thus lies the problem!!! A very BIG lack of communication re when we are full or booked out!! Maybe no internet service or no computer..............I am not sure. Poor Ole is a beautiful lady................but having to put up with inadequate facilities as far as connecting with the outside world is concerned!!
Don't get me wrong..............this is a unique setting and many may have had a wonderful time here as I read in some of the reviews before booking and leaving Oz. But to be stuck at a remote location with 3 more nights to find accomm................and not sure how to deal with Expedia.com when we got home for a refund etc etc...............we were a little ??perplexed. Anyway.................just a warning.................if you decide to book on line for a small, privately owned hotel or resort such as this one, in a third world country like Fiji.................maybe PHONE THEM when you arrive in the country , to double check your booking. And don't expect all to be perfect on arrival .............like it always is at the Hilton or the Sheraton Hotels. Just a warning to you. PS........we never DID get to swim in the sea out the front as it was blowing a gale and was quite cool...............in June.

This place is truly paradise. It is a real getaway from the rat race, waking up everyday to amazing views and the sound of the ocean. As there are not many villas (4 total with 2 units each), you sometimes feel like the only one there. Great to get away from all the touristy areas, you feel close to nature surrounded by all the fruit trees, cassava plants, horses and cows (who provide fresh milk for breakfast). We have great memories of exploring along the beach with the residents dogs Buffy and Ranger, who are great companions. We went for hours and never saw another soul except sometimes locals going fishing who were, like all Fijians, very friendly. The food served at the restaurant is all fresh and delicious, with some ingredients being grown at the property. The food is a mix of Fijian (Fish in coconut cream is a must), Indian and European food (I wish I could cook pan-fried lamb like they do). All of the staff are wonderful and accommodating, working hard to make sure your stay is enjoyable (perhaps too hard). Special thanks to Ole for being a most gracious host, she truly is an asset to this place. Also thank you to Wasake for making our horse riding and cave visit something special. We loved that there was no tv, no internet (although you can connect if you want), and no electricity in the day was no problem. We have never had so much sleep in our lives and it was so nice to hear the sound of the ocean at night. The hot water is solar powered so hope it doesn't rain! It is not cold here even in "winter" anyway though. Lovo night was a highlight, it was great to chat to other guests over a delicious Fijian style dinner. There are lots of activities such as kayaking, snorkeling (not the best but a real treat to have at your doorstep), or just reading a book on the hammocks.

Now to the unfortunate aspects of our stay, which were small but deserve a mention. We would not recommend purchasing the "All Inclusive" package, as the only benefit for an extra $140FJD/night is that food is included. We were initially told that we could order anything from the menu, however later on we were told that ordering Lovo or any seafood on the menu would incur an extra charge. Now, being in Fiji, you want to eat the seafood! So it is actually cheaper to just order the food as you go, as the meals are quite cheap (Breakfast $15FJD and lunch and dinner $20-30FJD). It is not possible for two people to get $140FJD worth of meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner each day given the limited menu (on the "All Inclusive" deal) and the fact that you only eat one meal due to check-in and check-out on the first and last day of your stay. However, on checkout Ole was very accommodating and it was all sorted out in the end, however best to avoid confusion and not purchase "ALL" inclusive (the name is misleading). Ultimately, you could just eat breakfast and dinner each day as the meals are so substantial. We wish we had done this as we would have saved quite a bit of money that we saved a long time for and still been very satisfied.

Finally, it was groundhog day with the owner who repeatedly tried to up-sell us things each day as though he had never met us before, despite staying for a week. We found this quite rude and made us feel like a walking dollar sign. All other staff were wonderful however. Overall I would highly recommend staying here (so long as you avoid pre-paying for meals).

Room Tip: I don't need air-con but for those looking for it note that there is none here. The sea breezes...

We loved the place!
Just back in NZ from staying 8 nights at the Namuka Bay Lagoon. Thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet the resort offers....no TV, no pool, no crowd of people to share your holiday with....no problem!! Two things make the resort very special.....the location, next to the lagoon, 6-7 km down a gravel track....and the staff....a friendly and caring bunch of people.
The Bures were clean, tidy and spacious. Food was of good quality, fruit & vegetables mainly home-grown ...milk from the house cow....eggs from the resort's chooks.....menu was relatively basic but prepared from scratch once the order was taken....result very tasty ....although sometimes the waiting time was a bit on the lengthy side....never mind....order another beer!
Just one observation...the staff seemed to be working 7 days per week....owners take note...this is not a good thing long term!
Thanks to all the staff for looking after us ....we will be back!!!!

Room Tip: Swimming pool & fitness centre = lagoon and walking on the beach / bush tracks

It is a lovely truly relaxing place in paradise, in which we stayed for 8 days! Quiet empty beaches (better wear some beach shoes, lots of corals), no blaring music, no phones ringing, no mobile phones, but all the possibilities to have it for a few hours in the evening if necessary. We did not need any of it and were blissfully happy in this beautiful place, looked after by a smiling, welcoming staff. The driveway might put some off, good for us, makes it a bit more recluse, which we loved about the place, but it's not a big deal, it's just a gravel road more.
We had all our breakfasts and most of our dinners at the Lagoon, and the food was excellent. Truly Fiji, unfortunately a bit longer than Fiji time to get it though. A compliment to all the staff who did very well, considering the chef (cook) was absent for our whole stay.

We recently stayed at Namuka Bay Lagoon Resort and we were very surprised.
The service was first rate, especially the food, hats of to Anna the chef.
Most of the fruit and vegetables were grown on the resort and each meal was prepared and cooked once you ordered. The meal did take a while to be served, but was well worth the wait.

The beach bura's were very nice, but could do with a little maintenance and the road leading to the resort was a little rough. Recommended if you want a nice peaceful holiday.

Anna also took us on a cave and archaeological tour of the area which was very interesting and was enjoyed by all.

We came upon Namuka Bay Lagoon purely by accident and it was everything we were looking for. Upon our arrival we were in awe of the resort. Growing up in a big city, I loved being surrounded by the fruit trees, organic gardens, cows, horses, and local birds. The villas sit just yards from a beautiful beach with crystal clean water. There is great snorkeling among the coral - tons of beautiful fish and starfish.

The staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Ole, our host, is an asset to any business - she was beyond professional and helpful, making sure we always had everything we needed.

The rooms were comfortable, clean, and peaceful. There is no electricity or wifi until the evening but you'll be too busy relaxing and enjoying the property to care,

The food was delicious - we enjoyed everything we ate. The fruit was out of this world. The menu is on the small but you will have everything you need and the staff will do their best to accommodate your needs.

Namuka Bay is a good distance by foot and even by car from another town/resort. I recommend stopping off at market on the way to pick up snacks, extra water, and alcohol. The staff will store your beverages in the fridge so they turn icy cold. We brought some cookies, chips, granola, chocolate and we were more than set for our 3 day stay. If you'd like to visit the resort or town nearby, just let the staff know and they will help arrange it for you.

Thank you to everyone at Namuka Bay - we're looking forward to returning in the future!

Namuka Bay Lagoon Resort is a family owned eco-resort where you can find a beautiful beach with crystal clear water and lots of nature everywhere. Atmosphere in Namuka Bay is nice &relaxed and staff is very welcoming. It is a place with mixed cultures, Indians and Fijians, and this bings it's unique feeling. Namuka Bay offers villas and also budget option for backpackers.

The owners are living in the resort and they make sure that you are pleased with your stay. You get to meet them everyday and it almost feels like you are part of the family.

The resort is growing their own fruits and vegetables and everything is organic. When you order a meal, it is made from the scratch with fresh ingredients. Food here is excellent and serving size is big.

The resort have archeological site and limestone cave with exciting history of cannibalism. You are able to explore surrounding area by short walks. There is also lots of hills for hiking too. The resort offers good snorkeling on their own beach, kayaking and horse riding. You can see cows and horses wandering around.

Before arriving to the Namuka Bay, i did an island hopping at Yasawas and Mamanucas and i was very dissapointed of how touristic and expensive they are. Comparing the outer islands and Namuka Bay, you can't find better place and value for your money than the Namuka Bay Resort. I would say that this a five star resort.

If you are in Nadi, you can find more information from the tourist information center and they can easily arrange your stay in Namuka Bay Resort.

Don't let the word "resort" get you wrong, you'll love this place.
Skip Yasawas or Shangri La and go to Namuka Bay.
