Amazing short break away to Mango Bay. 2nd visit and the staff remembered me and felt like returning 2 old friends/family. Amazing location, ultra relaxing, superb fish.....
But it was the staff that made the vacation. Thanks to Dee, Sarah, Max, Ben, Joel, Poly, Patty and all other wonderful staff.
See u soon I hope :-)

My partner and I travelled to Mango Bay Resort in Fiji and loved it. We went specifically to have a surf and were really impressed by the friendly staff and lovely garden setting. The beach is nice with great fishing and snorkelling nearby. Nas and Justin looked after our surf trip with a quick trip out to a local passage in the surrounding reef. While we were out we were joined by some green turtles who didn't want to miss out on the fun.
The bures and the dorms were super clean and tidy and very welcoming. The food is reputed to be excellant. We didn't eat at the resort but the chef is renown for the quality and value for money meals he produces.
Overall I was impressed with this great little resort and will happily go back.

Mango Bay was my first destination when I visited Fiji and it was a great start.
The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming which really set the trend for the rest of the week.
While at Mango I stayed in a beach hut bure, which was a bit back to basic's but very enjoyable. Only down side was no Air con, but was not of great concern.
There were a number of different activities and trips available each day. I would highly recommend having a go at the fishing trip, it was a great day out and you are in good hand with Freddy and Mick, they really know there stuff.

Dinning at Mango Bay also exceeded expectations. Every night there was something new to choose from and the food was to quite a good standard.

In short I found Mango bay to be a great introduction to Fiji. Its good value for money and with the option of just relaxing and taking in the sound of the waves, or enjoying one of the many activities. I would highly recommend Mango Bay as a great place to stay on the mainland of Fiji.

Room Tip: Would recommend a beach hut bore if pos.

Mango bay resort is the first Flash packers on Fiji's coral coast. For those who check in expecting 5 star luxury, you will be disappointed, keep in your mind that this is budget accommodation. In saying that, it’s one of the best forms of budget accommodation i have ever stayed. My partner and I stayed in a Beachfront Bure, on the opposite end to the bar/pool and well away from the dorm, which was great, lovely and quiet with our own private patch of beach. This is one of the best beaches along the coral coast.
The Bure itself was quite small and simple with an outdoor shower and old-school looking toilet. The water here also runs a little discoloured so it’s best to bring your own drinking water. This all might sound bad, but i actually really enjoyed staying here! You honestly don’t spend much time in your room at all anyway due to the abundance of activities on offer and you might often find yourself mingling with other guests.
The food here was simple but crowd pleasing with favourites like curry, pastas and steak and a few local dishes too. Continental breakfast here is included but basic. Cocktails whilst tasty were a little on the expensive side so we chose to stick to basic spirits.
There are also a few day trips on offer here including a shopping trip to Suva and a local village/waterfall trip, we heard from other guests that these were quite good but didn’t go ourselves. Staffs here were very friendly though at times not overly helpful, just very relaxed. That’s the Fijian way!
All in all if your travelling on a budget and can't afford to get out to the islands this place will suite just fine, A decent laidback approach to a beachside holiday experience.

We stayed a week at Mango Bay and we loved every minute of it. After exploring the southern part of the island, we headed up north to Denarau for 3 nights. Perfect combo!

STAFF: The staff were lovely and so helpful. Particularly Tina, one of the waitresses - she is the nicest person, also Kala, one of the activities guys is hysterical - we had so much fun with him. We also met the owner several time which was nice - you don't get that elsewhere.

COMPARISON TO OTHER RESORTS:
Remember that you have booked into a Flashpackers which means it is the NICEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL backpackers report you'll ever find. However, if you are into the usual report luxury such as air con, minibars, tv's etc. then this place isn't for you. Not to say Mango Bay isn't beautiful - without a doubt it was one of the most beautiful picturesque places we visited however, it is a low key venue. A group of us did visit the Warwick further up the road for dinner and a show, a very typical beachfront resort. The biggest thing we noticed is that when you are at one of those places, you have no idea you are in Fiji. Also, the fake entertainment shows, the kids club, the complaining tourists annoyed about the long line to the buffets - it just wasn't for us. We are so relieved to be back at Mango Bay and really happy with the choice we made.

Having said that, if you are taking your family and want round the clock nannies and kids club so you can relax then those places serve a purpose. As a single person in my 30's Mango Bay was by far more my style.

LOCATION:
Its a few hours drive from Nadi airport - roads everywhere in Fiji and old and dodgy but it's all part of the experience. Make sure you book a good car / minivan. The guy on the way there had an old dodgy car that broke down and had no seatbelts in the back. The guys on the way back had a modern air conditioned van which we shared with others and was one tenth of the cost. It's half way between Nadi and Suva, near some awesome waterfalls so lots to do within an hours drive and they have regular and inexpensive tours. When you turn onto the driveway it's a little off the beaten track. If you have a hirecar and are driving in the dark or rain, it's might be a bit of an experience!

FOOD:
Most people seemed pretty happy with the food. There is just the one restaurant and everyone comes together at night for dinner. Some join tables and mingle, others keep to themselves. As anywhere, the local dishes are the best. Try the Kokonda - its brilliant! There's plenty of spaghetti, curry, chips etc on the menu also. Take plenty of bottled water and snacks such as muesli bars - they are really handy for the day trips.

DAY TRIPS:
We found the activities to be really flexible. They take a survey or suggestions on which of the usual activities and day trips people want to do most and put it on the blackboard. Do the waterfall tour - it's really worth it!!

ROOMS:
We stayed in the beachfront bure which is lovely. There isn't much room to unpack and put your bags so it gets quite full however, you don't spend a lot of time in your room. The shower is outdoors which we found lovely, but I have read other people arriving tired, late at night in the rain not appreciating it so much. It's all about personal experience. One person's heaven is another person's hell! We checked out the dorms which were REALLY full like any other dorm however, they were clean and fresh, looked modern and nice. Beware: The Bure's are at the front along the beach and some are right next to the bar/restaurant. It's handy, but If you are looking for peace and quiet, make sure you request a Bure down the other end.

PARTIES and PEOPLE
We found this varied - some nights were quiet and a bunch of us would have some quiet drinks and play cards and pool, other nights seemed to take off and people partied all night long. It depends on the people and if you've been out day tripping and are tired. If the weather is good, they'll light a bonfire on the beach. I took my iPod for late night tunes in the sand. It wasn't all 18 year olds - there was quiet a mix. Most of the young crowd were girls travelling overseas for the first time and didn't get too rowdy. The rest are couples aged 20 - 40. There were a few retired couples also. Everyone got along great.

Anyway, I hope this was helpful and if you choose Mango Bay then I hope you have the wonderful time that we did!

This place is cheaper than most others, but there's a reason for that.

Me and my brother visited this place in December, from Christmas day onwards and we found that it wasn't as lively as we'd hoped.

The staff were generally quite polite and nice, as is the case with most Fijians in the tourism industry. We found that the rooms were pretty sub-par, with just a roof fan, the toilet looked like it'd been there since the dawn of age, the water came out brown and had a suspiciously kava-esque scent to it!

Drinks are reasonable there, but I had much better at other resorts.

There was pretty much nothing happening the first few nights we were there, which we found unusual considering the time of the year (25th December - 30th December).

We decided to do a "Jewel of Fiji" tour, which was pretty amazing - and then we went and stayed a night in Suva (wouldn't recommend, Novotel is nice but Suva isn't that great), and then we headed back to Mango Bay for the last night there (29th), which was really the only lively night there.

All in all, I would rather stay somewhere in Pacific Harbour, close to the Arts Village and right near The Pearl and the Uprising (If you can get good rates there, it looks nice! Great food and drinks.. Had the best mudslide cocktail ever while I was there..).. But if you're on a tight budget and want to see a bit of Sigatoka, you can do so and stay here.. perhaps getting a ride up to the Warwick for dinner..

The overall experience of staying at Mango Bay was simply amazing fun, and if you're up for a bit of an adventure, this is the place for you. The staff are beautiful (mostly Fijian) and kind (don't expect fast service, it's 'Fiji Time!'), the activities were cheap, as were the meals and drinks (compared to the Sheratin, which we stayed at for three nights in Denarau).

The website is slightly misleading, as it claims there is a swim up pool (which is actually not in use unless requested) and the 'nightclub' area is pretty much just a room up until schoolies I'm told. There is only one restaurant, which is communal and outside, but it's good fun, and a great way to meet people after meals.

Travelling with two other girls, we arrived to our rooms (Safari cabin) with high expectations, but quickly realised the cabin we were staying in had no aircon (wasn't necessary as right on the beach), no tv (who needs tv!) and the bathroom was a little gross. BYO towels recommended. But fine if you just want a cheap place to sleep, and you spend most of your time on the beach or doing activities anyway. The cabins were pretty cool from the outside, because they were little traditional huts.

You can easily request to do activities from the staff, and they will sort out shopping trips, surf trips, snorkeling, kayaking etc.

Overall fun and friendly.
