Reviewed May 12, 2009

Just returned from a very wet holiday in Fiji. We stayed at the Hideaway and overall were happy with the stay.
The good:
- For the most part, staff are very friendly and interested. Mila says "Bula" to Faiyez :)
- Villas/Bure's are great value, and while a little aged in some respects they are easily 4 star quality.
- Rydges card offers big accomodation/food/internet discounts
- Wireless internet is cheap & fast enough for most casual use
- Immaculate grounds which are great for kids to explore (interesting trees/plants are labeled)
- Great for scuba divers - onsite shop convenient, with good equipment. Dive sites close to resort. Free scuba intro/refresher sessions in the pool.
- Nice pool with waterslide for kids.
- Babysitters cheap and good with kids (we always paid a little extra over the quoted rate of $3.50/hour). Recommend Vina
and Asinatha (sp?). Our daughter is still asking after them.
- Good wine cellar containing some interesting wines from places like Australia, New Zealand, Lebanon, France and Italy

The not so good:
- Kids club staff didn't seem very motivated to entertain the kids and seemed bored on occasion. Not many indoor activities
save for TV room and a small box of lego. Still, better than what most resorts offer.
- Occasional mixups with or loss of babysitter bookings by reception staff
- Quite scary babysitter form that absolves Hideaway of all responsibility for the child even if death is caused by
the negligence of the babysitter.
- Having to mention your discount card every time to eat/drink got tiring - especially since the card details should
already be on the system from our checkin.
- Snorkelling area is being hammered by careless snorkellers - might need a big "Do NOT stand on corals sign"
- Fins offered by dive shop are the full-foot variety. They have one or two sets of strap fins, but would
recommend scubadivers bring their own.
- Chains on the hammocks are wearing very thin in some cases. Will need to be changed soon.

In summary - a very nice resort with some minor niggles. If the weather had played along it would have been a wonderful
holiday.

Thank you Hideaway. We just got home from a weeks stay at Rydges Hideaway Resort. What a lovely place to visit. We had a great stay and feel like we could have done with another week there. Staff are fantastic with little children (5years old and almost 2).
Some points to note:
* Decor is slightly old, but very comfortable. Will be renovated soon.
* Staff were great with the children.
* I found the staff talking amongst themselves in Fijian whilst serving you a bit off-putting (quite rude at times).
* Childrens playground is not up to Australian standards - in need of serious repair. However we didnt feel we missed out by not utilising a playground. There is plenty to do with the children.
* Putt putt golf also needing some work too.
* Kids Club - FANTASTIC - what else can I say. A supervised(?) movie is on every night at 6:30 so that parents can eat dinner - just need to ensure the movie is suitable for your child/age.
* Baby sitters for little ones are available for FJD$3.50 per hour. What a deal.... & they were fantastic. - I didnt think I would use them -but the Fijians are soooo friendly and love little children that you feel very safe leaving your children with them. (as every other family I talked with discovered).
* Take packaged snack foods if you have young children.
* We ate nearly all of our meals in the bar, as it is a lot cheaper than the Restaurant and just as good - if not better. Found some of the meals & drinks a little over priced, however the conversion rates made it ok.
Overall a very enjoyable stay the only thing we would do differently next time is book a 2 bedroom Bure. I found this resort very, very suitable for the type of holiday we were looking for. All Bures are stand alone, you are not in a block of motel rooms. We found it much more personal than a bigger resort and we got to know other families quite well.
I would like to return again someday.

Absolutely the best family holiday we have ever had! Our 14 and 11 year old sons cannot wait to return, nor can we. What makes this the perfect holiday destination; apart from its ideal location, wonderful facilities, exceptional value for money, are the dedicated and long serving staff. They form an instant connection with your family and by the time you leave it is as though you are leaving family behind. Loved everything about The Hideaway and would return in a flash.

Our family of four visited the Hideaway in April for 5 nights. The staff were very friendly and attentive - especially Faiyez, the breakfast chef. The food was yummy and our children loved the kids club and the waterslide. True, the decor is a little outdated (apparently renovations are planned), and the beach is not fine white sand, but the resort IS right on the beach, which you can safely walk along and the snorkelling is good too. Other resorts are surrounded by silt and mud, so the beach at Hideaway was a pleasure. The lighting of the torches and drumming for happy hour was a treat and the sunsets just beautiful. We really enjoyed our time at Hideaway and we were all sad to leave :-(... We'd love to return someday soon.

Bula Mum the Organizer

Thank you for posting you comments on Trip Advisor. Your comments are very acurate and a true reflection of Hideaway Resort.

Faiyez is not only a great cook but also has a fabulous personnality especially with children. All Fijians are great with children and consequently the success of the Kids Club.

It sounds like you organized a fabulous family holiday and I hope your family reciprocates on Sunday; have a great Mother's Day.

I look forward to welcoming you and your family back to Rydges Hideaway Resort in the near future.

Best regards

Bula....I dont know where to begin.... i only just returned from my magnificent holiday on Friday 27th March. I am in great depression mode that i am actually back home. The staff where absolutely remarkable, from the chefs to the bar staff to all activity staff and all of them. i was quite emotional when i left as you build a great bond with everyone and very hard to say goodbye.
The meals are something i will definately miss and there isnt a place in melbourne that could even come close to the service or the welcoming of all the staff.
As this was my first time in Fiji and definately not my last i would not travel to any other part no matter how blue the water is or how white the sand is as i believe its the staff that makes a holiday so memorable.
The rooms are kept in the cleanest condition and all have amazing views of either the beautiful beachfront or even the luscious garden with the most exotic flowers seen.
I cant wait to visit again hopefully in the next few months.
Vinaka,
Veronika

My fiancee and i stayed at Hideaway feb 2008, i would have to say it was the best holiday i have had that i can remember, the worst thing was having to leave and i will definately go back. Everything was perfect and a very big thanks to all the staff, you all made us feel very welcome. The activities, the sundance, volleyball, snorkelling, and the waterslide kept me entertained and then the food WOW and the cocktails, what more could you want. I recomend the Hideaway to anyone who wants to relax, have fun, eat the finest food and drink the finest cocktails and meet friends for life, congrats on a top spot.

Where do I begin, from the moment you roll up out the front you recieve the most amazing hospitality......the meals were excellent and the staff fantastic. A daily activities sheet at reception kept us up to date so we missed nothing........the cocktails were AWESOME!!!!! and unmatched by any i have had before...the room was incredible a beachfront villa swingchair in the front and an awesome outdoor shower fresh flowers every day and people saying BULA! everywhere you turn. Im taking all our friends back there for a trip same time next year. the weather was perfect 30 degree days and an afternoon shower to cool down. we went there to relax and thats exactly what we did, we hardly left except to do one day of jetskiing with a tour called jetski safari which was awesome!!!!!!!! (highly recommended) its an hour and a half from Nadi town by taxi 2 by bus but taxi is easiest and most reliable if you want the number of a reliable taxi driver dont hesitate to contact me!!! otherwise organise your transfers with the hotel for 190FJD return for the airport. All the activities and entertainment are free except for scuba diving and massages (also recommended). Every day everyone hangs out by the pool and the staff get involved with pool volley ball and exercise. and happy hour ceremony is cool too also the games they play at happy hour and the evening entertainment is a mix of comedy and traditional culture and celebration stay from a monday right through the week they do something different every day and the menu changes every day........PERFECT FOR FAMILIES WITH YOUNG KIDS AND COUPLES AND MATES!!!!!!! The kids club is free and the staff try to involve the kids all the time they love kids its a great place.......if you have any questions PLEASE DONT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME!!! more than happy to help them make your holiday awesome

P.S i work in the hotel reosrt industry so i know whats good

Thank you for providing comments to Trip Advisor following your recent stay at Rydges Hideaway Resort.

We are delighted you had an enjoyable vacation.

I agree that all Fijian people are welcoming, friendly and willing to assist at any opportunity, however I believe that the staff at Hideaway are exceptional.

Yesterday I said good bye to a group of guests who were here on their second stay; they will more than likely be back next year. Yesterday I also welcomed two guests on their sixth stay. In May I have guests returning for their thirty-first stay. We are honoured to have the loyality of these customers. This loyality is derived through the fabulous staff at Hideaway Resort.

We look forward to welcoming you back also.

Best regards and many thanks,

Kerry & Staff
