“Fun and Friendly Getaway!”
Reviewed July 31, 2014

As a young couple this was our first holiday together and Hideaway made it everything we could have hoped for. The staff were so friendly, helpful and welcoming from the moment we entered, and by the end of our 7 night stay we were on a first name basis with many of the staff. They had a full list of daily activities prepared and seemed to have something for everyone, whether old, young, family or couple etc. This list did get a little bit repetitive though, and 7 nights was easily long enough to try everything. There was also frequent entertainment from happy hour games to after dinner concerts. The food was not 5 star but we still left every meal feeling satisfied. The bar staff were exceptionally friendly and not to mention delicious cocktails! The rooms were also serviced perfectly daily. I would recommend this resort to anyone. Thank you Fiji Hideaway!

Our first time in Fiji . . . My daughter could not have chosen a better place.
From the moment we entered the resort we were treated as V.I.P's. Throughout our stay all staff were friendly and very helpful, going out of their way to make our stay memorable. Many staff members befriended us and made us feel extra special :-)
The daily activities and entertainment catered perfectly for the diverse group of guests. These were inclusive in our prepaid package, including the delicious meals, wines, beers and alcohol.
We had a Fiji $500 voucher per double room to spend on such treats as cocktails and Spa treatments. Unbelievable! All Spa treatments were professionally delivered with excellent results :-)
Altogether a beautiful place, wonderfully friendly and helpful staff, excellent service . . . We were 100% satisfied.

Room Tip: All rooms are similar, clean and spacious with indoor and private outdoor shower facilities. If you...

Stayed for only one night (work related). Its obviously a great place for families to come and enjoy, but not for us. We stayed in a Frangipani Bure. The room was a very generous size and the inside/outside bathroom/shower area was a great idea. However, the noise from the road was constant and combined with people having parties inside and outside other bures meant our night was very disturbed. Tea in the main restaurant was a let down (compered to other places we had stayed on our trip) It was a busy period being the school holidays and they obviously had to get large quantities of food out. Breakfast however was a pleasant surprise. Plenty of options and quantity. The beach front bures looked like the best place to book and the pool/beach front areas were great. There seemed to be plenty of activities organised and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Well away from the road and main buildings would be my advice

Seven years ago our son was married at Hideaway so we decided to take the now extended family back during the July 2014 school holidays, three generations 5 adults and 3 grandchildren.
The staff were very friendly, helpful and caring.
The activities for the children and adults were a lot of fun.
Our rooms were serviced and cleaned every day to perfection.
We were most impressed with what was available to keep the children happy while their parents had some time to themselves.
A great holiday had by us all...........Thankyou White Family

Room Tip: Beachfront or one row back

We travelled to Hideaway last week with our 2-year old and found the resort to be just what a family with a young child needed. We were in an ocean view bure and loved the fact that the water was only a few steps from our front door. We visited a larger resort whilst in Fiji and realised that we would have had to pay triple the amount for this same location at other properties. Previous posts mention the dated rooms, however this was not an issue for us as they were clean and large enough for our family of 3. I especially loved the tropical fish right at the doorstep of the resort and my daugher was very keen on the swimming pool. We appreciated that the resort was relatively small because it didn't feel like there were people everywhere we turned around. I was a little disappointed with some of our meals however everything was relatively inexpensive so I got over it pretty quickly. In saying that however, breakfast was fantastic with plenty of tasty options. Most of the staff were very friendly and couldn't do more to help. I guess our only issue was that dinner was served from 7pm which made it a little difficult with a toddler who had eaten hours earlier. All in all, we had had a wonderful time at Hideaway and although I have been home for 4 days, I am already suffering post Fiji blues.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main eating/bar area if you want a quiter stay.

We first visited Hideaway about 16 years ago, then two years ago then at beginning of July this year, we've only ever been there in their winter and the weather is beautifully warm at 28-30 each day, which is the reason we go at that time of year, avoiding their very hot, humid, wet summers.
Bearing in mind Hideaway is 3 1/2 star, yes the rooms are a little dated but they're in good repair, cleaned daily and very comfortable, although at least one chest of drawers in the room would be nice as there's nowhere to unpack your bag. You only use the room to sleep in really, so not needing too many creature comforts...and thankfully not a TV in the rooms. We didn't have a problem with mosquitoes inside our room, or outside for that matter.
Approximately 90 minute drive from Nadi, and about 100kms from Suva. Sigatoka is the closest town, about 20 minutes by local bus (around $2.60Fj, depending on mood of driver apparently).
The staff are all wonderful, always friendly with a smile and a warm Bula! considering how busy they must be.
The food is better than two years ago but can still be improved, would love more Fijian food on the menu more often. The kids' menu is so-so, luckily my son doesn't mind eating pizza and chips for lunch each day, more healthy variety would be nice. Far cheaper to purchase the meal package rather than pay for your meals as you go, where drinks were all included between 10am-10pm, happy hour certain cocktails are half price. ALL the cocktails are divine but I especially love the Mars Bar and Mud Slide. Be prepared for a wait while they're being made though...they could use an extra person on the bar during peak periods. My 13 year old daughter has declared that Hideaway makes THE best chocolate milkshakes in Fiji.
The nightly entertainment consists of local village choir, who are fantastic, fire dancing, fire walking, local village people singing traditional songs along with dancing. The cabaret night was less than ordinary, not even funny so I'd scrap that if I were them.
Some more lounge chairs in the main area would be great, as not many seats in and around the bar and we didn't want to sit at our dinner table all night. Having said that, not quite sure where they'd put the lounge chairs though, not a lot of spare room.
The two pool tables were in good repair...we bought six blocks of cue chalk and donated it as they didn't have any at all. Pool tables are very popular, as is the table tennis. So nice to not have any electronic games or large screens as the kids (young and old) entertain themselves quite well without it.
The snorkeling off the beach was great, the fish very colourful which make up for the lack of colour in the coral. They've almost finished building the new gym which looks quite basic but usable.
The organised daily games in and around the pool are a lot of silly fun, but you're there to relax, may as well join in and be silly. We didn't have any rude, loud, drunk people there at all (have read that in previous reviews), the people staying in bures around ours were very quiet. I'd say the resort was not at capacity but close to it when we were there and generally people were very quiet. The bar was all but deserted by 10.30 each night.
Definitely visit the Kula Eco Park $20Fj (15 minute on local bus to Outrigger Resort then 5 minute walk up the road/track to the park), shopping in Sigatoka, hire a car and drive to Suva (about 1.5 hours) for some sight seeing.
Vinaka Hideaway, hope to see you again in a couple of years.

Room Tip: try to avoid the Frangipanni bures closest to the road, even though there is a high brick wall, the...
