My partner and I stayed here during August, arrived late on Saturday evening, and ate at the resort the entire time up until we had lunch (chicken burgers) on Tuesday when we had lunch from the pool side takeaway.

Come Tuesday evening I was vomiting violently and my partner had diarrhoea. Bed ridden for the next two days, and it took until the Friday evening before we could eat anything substantial, and then we didn't trust the food so only had a pizza without any kind of meat. Talking to staff and other guests we soon discovered we were not alone.

Food poisoning aside, the location is pretty isolated from anything interesting. We had an ocean view Bure which was tired and had a worn out bed.The food we ate up until being poisoned was over priced and under whelming.

If you enjoy second hand cigarette smoke, then we would recommend sitting by the pool, in the bar, or if you prefer it while eating then try the Alfresco dining area.

We did enjoy what snorkelling we were able to do, but it is pretty average compared to other places in Fiji. The only other thing we did enjoy was the guided garden walk we went on with the head gardener. It was very interesting and he is a very nice man.

How this place ever won a Trip Advisor award (2012) is beyond me, I guess it is about expect ions and not having any, and that is about all I can say about the Fiji Hideaway Resort & Spa.

Dear Redbaron,
Bula and Sunny Greetings from our team here at the Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa. On behalf of the Management and Staff, I would like to thankyou for choosing Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa for your holiday destination. And would also like to apologise to you for what you have experience or face which spoiled your holiday here. We feel so sad to hear that the lunch you were being served wasnot up to its best which had upset you as well as your partner. I had only wish if you had come up and report straight away after realising that your conditions were not getting any good, as we would have acted on it straight away, and also would have been cured.. To make it worst, you do not need the doctor's assistance , when we offered you to see the doctor. As from the doctors report then we can confirm that you had Food Poisioning , which wasnot done. And also we had to go through all the chicken burgers which were being served from the poolside takeaway and there were quite a few but didnot get any other complaints apart from yours. And for other guests who were also sick, yes we had few guests who were sick which came to our attention and were being referred to doctors and we were being given of their report , which on this particular time as per the doctor, there has been a virus going around, plus the change of weather happenning everyday can be the cause of this sickness. And these guests after seeing the doctor, their sickness being cured, and were being able to enjoy the rest of their holiday.
Redbaron, I do apologise again if the lunch you were being served with on that particular day was not done the way you had want to and assure you that will provide you the best burger on your next trip to Fiji. Would also like to thankyou for your comments about our snorkling and I shall pass on your comments to our head gardner for his guided garden walk.
Once again, vinaka vakalevu for your stay with us and hopefully will meet again in the near future.
Warm Regards,
Joana Naikatini

Honestly i wouldn't know where to start! Out of the 12 days we spent in fijian sad to say we wasted 6 nights here =(
I'll start on a good note though the majority of the staff were nice and friendly we became good friends with one of the staff members getting a better insight on the place. It's owned by Indians but during one of the happy hours it was claimed to be owned and run by Fijians (we then became a bit confused) this is not true, i met the New Zealand marketing public relations lady who dined with the owner clearly not Fijian. Sad to say these fijians only get paid a pathetic $3 an hour curious to know where my $600+ a night went towards? For those who think the staff are forcing their bula's and were slightly rude, can you blame them when they get paid so poorly??? We were also informed that resort likes to keep their guest at their resort and are reluctant for guest to do things on their own they much prefer you to invest more money into their tacky activities. We were kindly invited to a village outside of the resort activities and got a pure experience with villagers we were then questioned where we went and had to lie so none of the staff got in trouble. I found all the activities at the resort very tacky they had disco nights= pathetic barely anyone at the bar after 10:30pm it looked like it was closed. The snorkeling gear was cheap crap and to top it off the first time we were told we have to be ready to go snorkel straight away. We went back to our room and fell asleep instead. We tried to snorkel again the next (this time prepared to go snorkel straight away) this time we were told to wait an hr and half to snorkel for high tide and when the time did come the snorkel tube was too short i kept swallowing water and constantly had water in side the goggles even though i had it as tight as possible and when we did go out to snorkel there was nothing really out in the water! It wasn't a very Fijian place in fact it was like any other resort in Australia. The design of the resort is very nice unfortunately its too long. Our beach front villa was at the very end and felt like forever to walk to the bar/pool area. The beach itself was disappointing, i thought that by booking a beachfront villa i could literally walk onto the beach but instead i had to walk half way down to walk around the stone wall onto what is a coral filled sand beach and rocky water. The room was very big and spacious good layout however it was badly styled cheap 2nd hand looking couch the toilet flush wasn't working, it also smelled. Also the toilet paper was cheap sandpaper something you'd get at a public park toilet. I expected a more comfortable atmosphere for the amount of money they are charging per night. Lights were very dull aswell. The massage was okay didn't really do much for me, you're probably better off getting a facial or a sugar body scrub. They played loud blaring music when everyone lounged around the pool not very relaxing. The cocktails tasted yummy however they were diluted i drank 6 during happy hour and did not find myself tipsy at all. The food tasted nice but there wasn't much of a selection on the menu. Breakfast was a little bit over priced but it is an all you can eat. There's only one restaurant and is only open at certain times you have to wait a good 5 hours between lunch and dinner. There wasn't much Fijian entertainment compared to other places we stayed at. During dinner we had a school choir sing for half an hour which was nice i got the opportunity to donate some money for their trip Australia. Two of the other nights were of the same song and dance by staff members which were very short and from where i was seated was hard to see. Any half decent activities were before 11. If you don't like kids then don't come here. It's full of Australian families with slack parents who let their kids run wild ( and this is coming from a person who likes children!)

Recently we went to Fiji Hideaway to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We had an ocenview room which was lovely. We had 11 nights at the Hideaway and made many new friends during our stay. I would recommend asking for rooms from 1-38 as they are the quieter rooms and if you don't have children with you, they are very quiet at night. We stayed in room 37 and even though it was a bit of a walk each day down to the pool and bar, at night it was peaceful. Can't stress enough, highly recommend the all inclusive food and drinks. We still signed for our meals each day and were glad that we didn't have to pay for them at the end of the trip. Food was great and very varied each day. Certainly no lack of it. You could drink from 10am with all inclusive if you chose until 10pm at night.
The nightly shows the resort put on are good, but seems we were there for 11 nights, by the end of the first week we had seen them all and they are just repeated again.
Highly recommend also catching the local bus out the front of the resort to Sigatoka. Was an experience and we did first thing in the morning so we had the school children. We also went on the Sigatoka jet boat safari ride, it was fantastic. The jet boat was great fun, but also going to a real village to visit was amazing. Highly recommend the Hideaway, but definetely get the all inclusive package.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are lovely and spacious. Rooms from 1-38 recommend, a little quieter. We had room 3...

Our Bure was amazing. The view of the lagoon through the glass doors was brilliant to wake up to each day. The friendly staff took such good care of us and ensure we enjoyed every day to the fullest. No TV's in the Bure was a real bonus. Gave us time to relax, read, sleep, listen to the surf breaking on the reef. The restaurant was excellent. Loved the food and the choice. Really looking forward to our next visit.

We just returned from our trip from Fiji. We Stayed at the hideaway for the second part of our trip after staying in denarau island for the fist half. We stayed here for 8 nights and by the time we left, we felt as if we were leaving our own family behind. The staff here are so warm, welcoming and friendly. This whole place has a very 'informal' fun atmosphere to it. The staff can often be seen playing jokes on each other, laughing, playing around (eg,putting ice down another bar staffs top), chatting with the guests and generally just having a good time. Their fun persona creates a great vibe about the place. They have lots of activities. You can go snorkling on the coral reef right outside the hotel. Its great for kids to as its not very deep and hardly any waves. You can hire the masks and flippers for free from the activities desk but they dont have smaller ones for little kids so make sure you bring your own. Some of the life jackets are old and abit mouldy (but not all). They are also free to hire and they have kids ones as well. The rooms are clean, comfortable, functional and reasonably well maintained. The opened roofed 'outside' shower is great. We had a blown light globe at around 10pm. We rang up the front desk and within minutes someone was knocking on the door to fix it. We stayed in a frangipani bure. When we booked with a travel agent. The brochure from the agent said that the frangipani bure's had a max occupancy of 2 adults and 2 children. It also said children 3 years and under stay free. When we arrived, the room only had 1 queen bed and 1 single. We said that we booked for 4 people and asked for an extra bed. The hotel reception told us that an extra bed would attract a $70 per night extra charge. I argued that they advertised children 3 years and under stay free. They replied 'yes that is correct, but only if the child is using existing bedding. Anyway, after a lot of drama they finally let us have the extra bed for free as we wernt told this by the travel agent. I was really annoyed by the misleading advertising and the fact that the travel agent wasnt aware of this extra bed thing either. Apart from that everything else went super smoothly. The free daily breakfast was AMAZING!! Everything you could possibly want. Also children eat for free. They put out a kids buffet at certain times which is nothing flash but great cause its free. Its just normal kids type food (pasta dish, pizza, mixed vegies, chips, chicken nuggets, fruit, cake, juice) that short of stuff. The only catch is that the kids have to eat during set times and eat only from buffet (ie, between 12 -1pm and again at 5 - 6pm). If they want other food, or want to eat at other times you just have to pay normal resturant prices. The free kids club is great and they have lots of activities on everyday for them. Children under 5 are required to have a baby sitter, but at only $5 fijian per hour is very reasonable. Of the evening after kids dinner they put on a movie in the movie room and the kids can go and watch a movie while mum and dad have dinner in peace or have some drinks or play the happy hour bar games (which are so fun). The tour to the village is great but its also an income source for the locals (they ask for you to make a donation to the village once you get there so make sure you take some cash) and they have local crafts for you to buy as they set up a shop and ask you to have alook. The spa services are really quite expensive but just outside of the hotel towards the village there is a little hut run by the locals which offers massages, hair beading, etc at alot cheaper cost than inside the hotel. The Menu prices are quite reasonable (compared to some of the other hotels) but I hate the fact that the trainee waitresses work 5/6 days per week and are only getting paid $50 fijian for an ENTIRE working week. I feel like the prices I am paying for my meals and drinks that they can afford to pay them more. I also felt sorry for the bar staff when you are ordering $25 cocktails and they are only getting paid between $2.50 and $3.50 per hour. Someone must be getting very rich when guests are paying so much for food and drinks and the staff are getting paid so little. Tipping is not encouraged, and so when no one was looking, I would slip a fiver occassionally into their hands. They are so grateful and very freindly people. The only bad things about this place is that it is close to the road and our bure was one of the ones backing onto the road. We could hear all the cars going past, but as fiji roads are not too busy at night it wasnt too bad. The pool is ok but there is mould growing in the grates an filters. Some of the tiles and grates are in a state of dis-repair. Pool area is a bit tired needs a make over. Pool towels are old and some have holes in them. Not that we really cared about any of this stuff though. Gardens are well kept and general hotel cleanliness is of a good standard. This hotel is not near many towns and their are not alot of activities around the coral coast area. We caught the local the bus to sigatoka which was really cheap (compared to a taxi) and did some shopping (which was alot cheaper than the shop at the resort). We also went to the nature park which is quite close but thats about all that is close by. Its more isolated than hotels around nadi area so we spent alot of time just hanging out around the hotel. (Which I didnt mind at all). The fire walking demonstration on thrusdays is amazing and highly recomended. They also have a show on everynight about 830pm on the stage. Some shows are better than others, the fijian traditional dance shows are great. Over all this was a good, comfortable, fructional, family friendly hotel for mid range budget travelers who are not expecting 5 star facilities and treatment.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road.

We just finished a 5 night stay! Our first time to Fiji, but have travelled extensively.

Bure was fine, nice & quiet. Bathroom is very tired. No tv's. apart from that no complaints about the room. They supplied a cot for our 2 year old which was ideal.

The gardens around the bure's are well kept.

The pool area was most dissapointing. Very old & tired. In serious need of an upgrade! I wish there was more comments about this as its my one requirement when holidaying!! A nice pool.. Lounges old & shabby.

Resturant was nice, food reasonable. Prices ok! Kids meals consisted of fries, cold pasta, mixed frozen veggies that were soggy. A few different variations each night.

Beach average! Have been to much better!

Staff were fairly friendly!

Wifi is $20 per 24 hour period, which is a joke! Should be included.

Kids club lacks toys!! We paid for a babysitter for our 2 year old, she didn't speak much English and when we went to check up our daughter was crying & just left by herself. Immediately took her out!!

Buffett breakfast was fairly good.

Overall slightly disappointing stay! 3 nights would of been ample.

Will not return & unlikely to recommend!!
