“Christmas in Fiji”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2007

Having read all the excellent reviews for this resort we held high hopes for it - and generally weren't disappointed. Rather than restate all the good things about it (of which there were many) I will play Devil's Advocate a little and point out the (not very bad) downsides

It's a long way from the airport, over 1 1/2 hours by taxi.
The beach isn't very good (but the pool is big). You can only snorkel one hour before and after high tide.
If you're there for Christmas, don't spend the FJ$ 72 pp on the buffet - it's not worth it. Better to order off the a la carte menu (which they discourage but is much better value).
Service is a little slow (I know, I'm in Fiji, but when your wine doesn't come until you're halfway through desert it's a bit too long...)

Having said all the above, it's a very pleasant place to stay. The staff are all very friendly and try to keep you entertained. We stayed a week and didn't feel the need to leave the resort (yes, we're lazy).

If you have kids (we don't) they will be well looked after and kept amused and busy all day and into the evening.

Rooms were big, food was pretty good and reasonably varied (I would compare it to good pub food).

Overall I would reccommend Hideaway Resort, if you're looking for a friendly relaxing no-frills kind of place.

My husband, eight year old daughter and I stayed at the Hideaway for 12 nights and had a fantastic holiday. We stayed in a Frangipani Bure which was quite large with a bathroom that had a lovely outdoor shower and a verandah with views of the ocean. The gardens were very nice and well kept.It had one restaurant with a huge variety of food, the A la carte menu changed every night. They had nightly entertainment and the kids were kept busy daily with a huge range of activities through the Kids Club. The pool was large and clean with a spa and kids wading pool and a water slide. There were always plent of lounges by the pool and umbrellas for shade. The staff of the Hideaway were the greatest we have come across and the Hideaway motto is true. "arrive as a friend and leave as part of the family"
We would highly recommend the Hideaway for a relaxed, fun filled family holiday for not a huge amount of money.Try it ,you wont be dissapointed.

After 9 trips to Fiji staying at various resorts we would rate Hideaway as the best overall.
We loved the relaxed atmosphere and every thing, the accommodation, staff, food was excellent.
2 members of a Wedding Party who were unable to stay at that particular resort were relocated to Hideaway and commented to us how lucky they were, as it was so much better than the other hotel.
We just loved it and were so sorry to leave. If you want a wonderful relaxing holiday go to Hideaway. It is great value for money -we would recommend the meal plan, and no matter what your ageyou will be well catered for.

Our family or 5 and a friend of our teenage son just spent a wonderful week at the Hideaway Resort on the Coral coast of Fiji.
The staff at the resort were wonderful, everyone was friendlly and helpful.
We stayed in a frangapani bure which was neat and comfortable no tv (thank goodness) There was plenty of activity either in the resort or nearby to keep everyone happy,
We purchased a prepad meal and drinks package which was very good value. The meals were delicious and the presentation great.
If you want to expereience the local culture make a visit to the nearby village school, the resort organises a tour on fridays. Be aware that in the nearby town of Sigatoka you may be approached by locals who want to take you to the market, avoid this as it is a rip off scam.
We had a fantastic time and I would stay at Hideaway again.

I've stayed at Hideaway Resort a few times now... There's no other way to describe it than "amazing".
I met my partner at the resort, as he was working there at the time. He no longer works there but still spends time in the resort as all his best friends work there. The staff (even those that I haven't spent as much time with) are all amazing people. They care so deeply for each and every guest whether its your first time, or your 5th time.
The extensive activities program (and beautiful staff lol) is wonderful and caters for all ages, interests and fitness levels.
Having a Tour Desk in the resort is very handy also, as they offer great ways to see whats outside the resort.
Don't let the media scare you, there is nothing to be affraid of in Fiji... there is no trouble whatsoever. Make sure you get out and visit the villages, go into town and see a rugby match... Friday and Saturdays... just get out and see the real Fiji. Because, although the resort is amazing and beautiful and so much fun... there's so much more to Fiji.
The resort is clean, well kept and really well designed, and not to mention located in one of the most beautiful areas of Fiji.
Once you've stayed at Hideaway Resort, anytime you return to Fiji, you'll return to Hideaway as you'll fall in love with the place, and the people.
I won't be staying there anymore, as I don't need to pay for accomodation in Fiji for obvious reasons. But will always visit to see those staff members that don't live in Tagaqe, that i wont see much of.
But of course, if I still had the need to pay for accomodation, there'd be no other place I'd stay. Sometimes I'm still tempted to spend the money to stay there though, because it is such an amazing experience.

I've viewed many weddings at the resort, and if you're looking for a wedding location in Fiji, Hideaway Resort is definately the place. No words can describe the beauty.

You're not just another dollar, or another 'tourist' at Hideaway Resort... you are friends... and you are family.

You won't regret a moment!!!

We went to Hideaway for our honeymoon on August 10th. We stayed for 10 days. At first I was disappointed since our first honeymoon choice was Maldives however we have no regrets and are so happy we went to Fiji. We arrive at 9ish and they had our room ready in 20 mins. We had the Ocean View but upgraded to the Villa for an extra $45 per day so $450 total. Believe me, it was well worth it! We had a beautiful room with double shower heads and then an outdoor shower. The food was amazing....different menu everynight for dinner. The people are what made our trip most memorable. They are the most warm and geniune people you will ever meet. They say tipping is not encouraged but we found out these people made just $3 Fijian an hour. So wlhen we left we made 4 really good friends whom we left a gift for. I would and we plan on going back and would not go anywhere else but Hideaway.
