We went to the Outrigger for the first part of our honeymoon. It was a great introduction to the Fijian culture. The site is beautiful and the people are genuinely nice. I got certified to Scuba dive there and my wife laid out and got a nice tan. The bure we stayed in was nice and the butler service was something else.

That being said, we weren't ready for the amount of children at the resort. It is very family friendly. We don't mind it, as we both work with children, but some of the kids were loud and obnoxious. Not the best way to unwind after planning a wedding.

The food was good, not great. Not bad value for the price, but the Ivi's food is much better and not much more expensive. Just be prepared for a dress code there.

We have just returned from a fabulous holiday in Fiji staying on the mainland at The Outrigger on the Lagoon. After researching many resorts before we booked we were more than happy with our resort. From the moment we arrived the service and attention given to our family was amazing.
The Outrigger, which is about a one and a half hour drive from Nadi airport and two hours from Suva, has all the normal resort facilities you expect such as shops, gym, tennis courts, water sports, restaurants and bars, cultural nights and baby sitting. The closest town is Sigatoka, which is about five kilometres away.
Upon arrival at the resort, we received a warm welcome from half a dozen staff, offering fruit cocktails and refresher towels before taking our bags and helping us check in, a process that was swift and simple.
We met our Talia Butler, Salote, - who our three year old just adored - on arrival and she gave us a quick tour of the resort and showed us our room, which was ready almost immediately. Within thirty minutes of arriving we had checked in, changed and were seated in the main restaurant ready for a buffet breakfast.
The resort itself is beautiful, it is very serene and calming not at all pretentious as some five star resorts can be and the staff are lovely. While the beach, as expected, wasn’t great, the resort pool was sensational. There was a shallow children’s pool, which was separated by a small bridge that then opened up to a huge pool area with a couple more shallow areas for young families, but there was still plenty of space and quieter areas for those not travelling with children.
The kids club is fantastic with programs running for 3 – 7 year olds and 8 – 12 year olds daily between 10am to 12pm, 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. They also will take the children for lunch and dinner if you wish. From around 6pm every night they set up an outdoor theatre for the kids with bean bags and mats and a family friendly movie so parents can go have a quiet meal at one of the restaurants close by, which are far enough out of earshot to enjoy dinner but close enough to keep one eye on the kids if needed. We also utilised the babysitting service which wasn't something we expected to do as we'd only ever left our children (3 and 13moinths) with family and couldn't of been happier with the service. The staff ensure you have the same babysitter eachtime so the childen are familiar with who their nanny is.
The resort food isn’t cheap but I wouldn’t say it was overpriced either, and I don’t think we had a bad meal. However, you do tend to get a bit bored of the same meals once you’ve been there for a week. There are a few restaurants and cafes near the resort, which were much cheaper but still had great food, but for convenience I would book with breakfast included. Also try and have drinks at 'the 1/2 price times . We found that the food service around the pool during the day could be a bit slow around lunchtime, we just learnt to order the kids food way before they were hungry as sometimes it would take 40 minutes for a toasted sandwich and chips. If your travelling with kids check to see if your package included kids meals, this makes a big difference in your food bill.
If you want to indulge yourself then there are two must do items. The Ivi restaurant is a kid free zone described as a “dining experience” and well worth the expense considering the quality of the food, service and atmosphere.
Then there is the Bebe Spa. Located on a hill, overlooking the resort and ocean, it provides views that need to be seen to be believed. They have a huge range of treatments available and the setting ensures that it is an incredibly calming experience
If your not into that sort of thing there is also a bar up there (adults only) where they do oyster shots and cocktails most nights until about 9pm. Well worth checking out, even if it is just for the view.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Fiji experience and much of that was due to the first rate service and facilities provided at the Outrigger. Nearly a month after returning our three year old still mentions that she misses Salote and the pool (in that order). I guess you can’t get a higher recommendation than that.

Stayed 5 nights in ocean view room (Lagoon Wing). Clean presentable room which had been refurbished quite recently. Location excellent with lovely, well maintained gardens. Butler service for nightly canapes and champagne a nich touch for those in ocean view rooms or bures. Resort facilities are good and the service excellent. Food was good with the signature restaurant Ivi's worth a visit. The Outrigger was excellent value for money and I would happily recommend the resort to other travellers.

I was unsure where to stay, it being our first trip to Fiji we had no idea of the terrain and distances to various towns, tourist sites, islands etc... But I have to say that the 'Outrigger on the Lagoon' is outstanding as far as being senic, clean and friendly. The service is overall, very good when you consider that you are now in 'Fiji Time'. Slow down and enjoy the surroundings, it is a must to relax and consider how nice it would be to be able to live like this ongoing.

The closes town is 'Sigotaka', about 5kms away. You can catch a local bus there for $1.00each. And the cabs from town back, if you don't want to wait for a bus was, $7.00. Nadi town is about 1hr 20mins away. A taxi for the day costs around $80. You get the driver and cab so if lots of shopping to do, this could be a handy alternative.

The Hotel is in a beautiful hilly location, the Bebe Spa overlooks the resort and beach on top of a high hill and really is worth a visit and to treat yourself to something indulgent. Afterwards you can enjoy the sunset with champagne and oysters from the bar at the very top.

This Hotel is a favourite 'weddings' location. I can see why. But then again this is my first trip (hopefully not the last). It is an expensive experience however, the cost of living in Fiji is high. The hotel pricing is comparable to 5 star prices in Australia, alcohol being moreso. Always nice to have some duty free with you. The hotel puts on a nice service to your room between about 5pm and 6pm. It is a bit like a lottery, where you get served canapes and champagne free of charge to your room. Very nice!!

The 'Ivi restaurant' was absolutely the best. The food was so good and the service impeccable. You have to dine here to appreciate real 5 star service and 'no children' allowed in this environment (of course)! We didn't take the kids, although ours are pretty much all grown up, but we could see that a lot of young families had a wonderful time here. There were carers all over the place, ready to help with the children and the kids clubs were such fun places that kids would cry when they had to leave their friends. I loved to watch the children having such fun, and they were all happy and predominantly well behaved as a result.

Thanks so much 'Outrigger on the Lagoon'. Vinaka. Hope to be back with you again real soon.

Perth, W.Australia.

PS - A trip to the Islands is also a must. We are thinking of incorporating a few island resorts into our next holiday and finish off with total relaxation at the Lagoon.

My partner and I stayed at the Outrigger over New Years and overall, I wouldn't recommend it and definitely wouldn't stay there again.

It is a beautiful place and the rooms were really good however the food was overpriced and quite bad - by the end of our stay we had both been sick from the food.

The pool is good but in peak times there aren't any seats and not a lot of shade. You have to be at the pool by 6am to get a good lounge seat.

The tours we booked were really good, but with everything, they were quite expensive.

The beach was very average - during low tide you can't even swim there. I would not recommend staying anywhere along the coral coast as most of the hotel beaches would have the same problem.

Everything was really expensive and there wasn't much else around so you are really stuck with the couple of restaurants in the resort.

I would recommend staying on one of the islands for the beaches or somewhere with more variety at the hotel.

I would recommend the Outrigger to anyone and everyone.. Singles, couples, families and those seeking a wedding day to remember without the stress and for half the price of an Australian wedding.

My husband and I planned and booked our whole wedding and holiday online and (wedding details) via email with Praveena (the inhouse wedding coordinator).

EVERYTHING was perfect, we did not have to worry or think about anything there was no mad rush or stress that usually surrounds a wedding day, we actually lazed by the pool, sipped cocktails and played water polo with other guests until a couple of hours before the wedding it was fantastic. The only leg work we did for the wedding was sign our registry documents (chauffeur driven), pick the colour of our flowers and the flavour of the cake.. Awesome! Praveena is delightful to work with and nothing is a problem, she's great.

The resort itself is just beautiful, our accommodation was great (maybe 50 metres off the beach) the staff (and Fijian people in general) are the friendliest most welcoming people I have ever met in all my travels. The kids club is fantastic, its not a cotton wool club they take the kids out catching frogs to race, build sand castles and have really interesting activities, my boys loved it.

And for those that love a good Spa treatment, the Bebe spa is mind blowing. We spent an afternoon having a couples treatment which included a coconut milk spa on your own private verandah with champagne and chocolate dipped fruit... SO good!!

My huband, grandson (age 13) and I stayed 5 nights at the Outrigger. We cannot say enough about the staff. Wonderful people!! The BeBe Spa is fantastic. We visited twice and loved both treatments. The view is incredible. We did think the food was overpriced especially for the breakfast buffet. On the advice of some other travelers we took a short minute walk down the beach and had breakfast at The Shack and Badarra Beach Resort. A couple of eggs, bacon, toast and coffee for around $6 american dollars. The beach is not as nice as it is at Castaway Island but overall we liked the Outrigger better than Castaway mainly because of the staff.
