“An unforgettable experience”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Coming from Australia, we are told wherever we go how friendly we are. This is nothing on the Fijians, especially those at Outrigger on the Lagoon.
From the minute we pulled up we had smiles on our faces that left us with sore cheeks when we departed 5 days later (in a good way!!!).

We were traveling as a group of 6 (3 couples) and were accommodated close to each other as requested. Our "Deluxe Resort View" rooms were spacious, clean and the decor was attractive. Each room had a small balcony with 2 very comfortable chairs which overlooked the beautiful gardens surrounding the accommodation.
The bed was a little soft for my liking but all other members of our group slept very comfortably.

The dining options were plentiful and all of a very high standard.

The Vale Ni Kana breakfast buffet at $25 (Australian $) has a huge spread of hot food, fresh fruit, cereals and pastries all of which was of a high standard. The men in our group certainly got their moneys worth, however, being a fairly light eater it was hard to justify the cost every morning.
We opted for a light takeaway breakfast at the Takia on the Go most mornings where the $9.90 (Fijian $) pastry and coffee deal was better suited to our budget.
Our only qualm was that all sit down breakfast options finished at 10:30am - being in full relax mode we often missed this deadline and found ourselves waiting hungrily for the lunch menu to begin at 12:00 noon.

For lunch and dinner we sampled Sundowner Bar, Pool side dining, Baravi Restaurant & Ivi Restaurants during our stay - all had good varieties for both vegetarians and carnivores.

Our favorite hangout ended up being the adults pool, both for its proximity to our room, its quiet and relaxed vibe and the swim up bar!
There was always plenty of lounges and attentive, cheerful staff to wait.

In attempt to work of some of the cocktails consumed, we made the most of the leisure activities on offer. The tennis courts, volleyball, swimming pools and driving range all got a workout and if it wasn't for a rainy, windy Sunday, we would have been out kayaking over the coral.
We also participated in a Kava ceremony by the pool which was very informative.

The freedom of only having to carry your room key around (charging meals and drinks to the room) saved us grappling with unfamiliar currency and being stuck with handfuls of coins at the end of the trip.

Amenities aside, for us, the staff made this an unforgettable experience.
Always being greeted with a warm Bula when passing made us smile. Friendly banter with restaurant and activities staff went beyond our expectations and made us feel very welcome.
Whilst having a birthday dinner for one of our group members' birthday at the Ivi, all the restaurant staff presented her with a cake and sang a special happy birthday song in perfect harmony - just amazing!

I cannot recommend the Outrigger on the Lagoon highly enough.

Dear Kato_Wellington
A huge “Bula” from the team at Outrigger on the Lagoon∙Fiji!
We are absolutely thrilled that you and your friends had such a wonderful holiday experience at our beautiful resort. I have noted your comments regarding your interrupted sleep! A small tip is that should you not be happy with your mattress, please alert the housekeeping staff and they will make arrangements for a harder/softer mattress – whatever you prefer!
Thank you for your gracious comments about your friend’s birthday celebrations at the Ivi Restaurant. The Fijians love a celebration! You can understand why both Ivi and the Sundowner Bar and Grill are rated as the 2 top restaurants in Fiji! It should also be noted that Outrigger on the Lagoon . Fiji was voted as the number one resort at this year’s tourism awards!
Kato_Wellington – All of my team look forward to the day when you and your friends return to Outrigger on the Lagoon∙Fiji.

I stayed at the Outrigger over Christmas and NYE 2012 with a friend. We had to change rooms a couple of times because we were allocated a room with one bed (not two) at first, then the replacement was near some construction and we were looking forward to a construction-free view. The staff were lovely and helpful and friendly through it all. We enjoyed all the food we had while there, and the pool area was lovely and the beach is pretty good, though there is no snorkelling to bother with (I'm sure kids would have fun, but that's about it). still, lovely views. The resort got quite busy just after boxing day, mainly of families, so it became difficult to find chairs around the pool unless you were up early when all the kids were dragging their parents down to the pool to play (which we weren't), and that got a bit irritating.

We had the daily butler service which made us feel really pampered, and enjoyed the luxury of room service.

The hotel room itself was really nice. Super comfortable beds.

Had massages at the on site spa, which were amazing.

I'd recommend it if you want to have a bit of luxury and a relaxing holiday, though the vibe when we were there was definitely more for families, mainly with young kids, and there weren't many other people of our demographic (early 30's, single, no kids, travelling as friends) to meet or hang out with.

Dear HeatherCQ

Bula and Sunny greetings from Outrigger on the Lagoon . Fiji!

I was delighted to read that my staff took such good care of you and your friend when you visited the resort back in December last year!
You will have to come back for another visit?
The biggest change since you were here in November has been the opening our our new “Adults Only” swimming pool and bistro. This new facility features a 20 metre lap pool, a 35 metre lagoon pool with a swim-up bar and an outstanding bistro. The name of the venue is Vahavu, which means chill-out in Fijian and it has made such a huge difference to those guests staying at the resort that are looking for quiet time.
I apologise for the noise from the construction of the pool that impacted your holiday. Please let me know when you are coming back for another visit and I will personally ensure that you have a restful stay! My contact details are gm@outriggerfiji.com.fj
HeatherCQ, hopefully we will see you back at our beautiful resort at some time in the not too distant future?

I stayed during the wet season; November 2012. Even in the low season and with sometimes wet weather the hotel and area did not disappoint... always plenty to do - from kayaking, town visits, day trips, spa days or just lounging by the pool. I would recomment trying out the spa at least once, it is worth the trip up the road for the view alone.

The staff were always friendly and had constant smiles on their faces. The staff are a true credit to the resort and really add to the enjoyment had by guests.

I found the meal vouchers were a very helpful item to have, you didn't need to worry as they could be used in multiple outlets.

The rooms were lovely; comfortable beds and sizable bathrooms. The rooms were well maintained and the houskeeping staff did a wonderful job.

I would recommend the hotel to any who are looking for a relaxed holiday with the option of as many activities as you can participate in. Thank you for a lovely stay and I would be more than happy to come back any time.

Room Tip: The ocean view rooms are worth the upgrade for the view and closer to the pools and facilities. Also...

Stayed in a Plantation Bure in late August for a friends wedding. Young family, kids aged 4 and 2.

We had a fantastic time. The resort is beautiful, the people could not be friendlier, the facilities are very good, and the room was great.

Highlights were:
- Wedding was awesome, what a view from the top of the hill. And then dinner was beautiful. Can't beat a beach location for wedding photos too
- Breakfast is great. The options are amazing. Waffles, fresh fruit, smoothies - beautiful.
- The meals at the Sundowner are huge. My wife and I often shared an entree and main (one voucher) and it was more than enough
- Ivi is nothing short of top class. Treat yourself to some fine dining, it is worth it.
- General relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the result is unbelievable. Great for young families.

Things to improve:
- Don't stay in a Plantation Bure unless you are a family unit. There is no solid wall between bedroom and bathroom/toilet. Yes - you can here everything.
- The 2 year old was sort of in a limbo age. Not old enough to go to kids club by himself, but too old for the 8 hour daily mei-mei service. We ended up keeping him with us, and hiring a babysitter at nights for a couple of hours.

These are minor things for us, and did not take away from the great holiday we enjoyed. I recommend to all with young families.

Room Tip: Bure's are worth the extra price IMHO. Talai butler service is great, and that little perk that...

As you have stated – great restaurants, heaps of activities and to top it off outstanding warm and friendly staff – This is what Outrigger is all about! Thank you for your comments about our fine dine restaurant, Ivi. You can understand why it was the winner of the “Best Restaurant in Fiji” at this year’s tourism awards. I have noted your comments in regards to the meimei nanny service. This service is provided to all children 6 months and above. From 6 months to 2 years we provide a one on one service and then from 2 years and above our nannies are able to look after 2 children for the same price.

My husband and I and 3 year old just returned from 7 nights at the Outrigger Fiji. We went on a group holiday with two other families. I can't recommend this resort highly enough if you have children.

We stayed in an Ocean View Resort Room. We managed to take advantage of the evening butler service most nights. If you aren't in your room when they come, you can call up to 9pm and they will deliver sparkling wine/beer/softdrink to your room (included in room cost). This was quite nice and the view was lovely, but I could live without it if I was on a tight budget, given how little time we spent in the room.

Our package (booked through myholiday.com) allowed children under 12 to eat for free. This worked well for us. We dined at Baravi Restaurant and poolside, Sundowner Bar & Grill, had the Lovo buffet in the buffet restaurant and once at Ivi (no children allowed). We were all very impressed with Ivi. Although it is probably not to the same standard as fine dining in Australia, it was very close and we thought reasonable value for money. My husband had a Kokoda (traditional fish dish) and they prepared it in front of us. They also prepare the Crepes Suzette at the table, which is quite impressive.

The breakast buffet was quite good. Ours was included in our package, but I noticed is was FJD42 for full breakfast or FJD33 for continental, which I think is comparable to Australia.

We also dined outside the resort twice. Just down the beach from the resort is a small group of shops - bar, restaurant, small convenience store (not particularly well stocked, though) and another restaurant called Le Cafe. The food at both was reasonable, but not spectacular, but fairly cheap. But, both restaurants have tiny kitchens with apparently only one person doing everything, so meals take forever to arrive. Just bear this in mind if you're on a tight schedule.

Our just-turned-3 year old daughter went to the kids club several times. The activities schedule for the kids was extensive and one day they even took them to the Eco Park next door.

The staff are really good, but as she is quite young, we found after the first night-time visit to kids club that it was better to hire a nanny (Mei Mei) to take her to the kids buffet dinner and then accompany her to kids club or just do quiet activities. The largish group of slightly older children was a bit overwhelming for her.

The nanny cost FJD20 for the first hour and FJD18 for each additional hour, so still quite reasonable and made us feel more confident about leaving her. The nanny also gives a written report at the end of the night about what the child ate, what activities they did etc. I think we only needed to book about 4 hours in advance, which was also quite handy.

Bebe Spa is also worth a visit. Very relaxing treatment. We didn't get a chance to do the high tea or tapas, but our friends did the sunset tapas and cocktails and they were very impressed. The view from the spa is spectacular too.

There is also an adult pool and bar. We spent a couple of hours here while our daughter was at kids club. It is very quiet and relaxing without screaming children, so would suit those who are looking for that kind of thing. The pool is definitely a bit cooler, though.

There was also a wedding each day we were at the resort, but they weren't too intrusive on other guests, although they may have closed off a part of the Sundowner one night for dinner, but that didn't affect us.

Overall, we had a really enjoyable time here and are hoping to return in the next year or two.

I would highly recommend this resort for families with children.

Where do I start, oh yes BULA BULA! We just returned home from a 10night trip to this amazing resort. my husband and I and our 3 and 1 year old boys stayed in a Superior Resort ROOM and it done its job-had a shower, bed and a place to put our clothes away while we enjoyed our stay so we enjoyed it, it was nice and it was cleaned daily. ACTIVITIES-is almost every hour But on FIJI TIME at times haha what a lovely bunch of people, we also done horse riding on the beach to the side and they advised us that they were part of the outrigger for 10years then let go of a few years ago but it's a lovely stroll along the beach. BEACH beautiful while not your typical soft sand right up to the water it was nice (while wearing shoes lol) FOOD Amazing Huge Thumbs Up as Expensive as it (and eating here can get pricey) we struggled to say 1 bad thing about it., Buffet Restaurant gosh what great chef's captured it all with the taste, Sundowner Restaurants just as good with the ocean View, Coffee at the Cafe near reception nice touch and the STAFF these guys make the resort every restaurant remembered our boys by name, going out of their way to attend to us and play with them, Staff at the Activities Desk were just the same such amazing people hope you guys get a payrise. My husband is already planning our return trip next year. If you can get out of the resort just to see something different, do so cause that's the Real Fiji. Just lastly the staff here a amazing, friendly Saying BULA to every single person but we noticed the supposed 'Assistant Manager' (so we were told) Aussie Guy White Shirt and Beige/Mustard pants every few days on the resort-I realise you have a job to do But some eye contact a SMILE and a BULA/HELLO from You to the guests wouldn't hurt Especially when all the Fijian Staff of the Outrigger a doing it.. Loved this place and we can't wait to come back!!

My family & I recently stayed at this resort, and we have come away with memories to last a lifetime! The friendliness and welcoming from staff was superb and I have to say...this resort has the best "bula boys"!!! My two girls aged 5 & 10 were sad to leave. My 10yo had most fun with the Mei-Mei service and my 5yo really enjoyed Kids Club. My top pick (if you can), dine at the Ivi Restaurant....excellent!!! We will definetely recommend this resort to family & friends.....
Moce & Vinaka for an outstanding holiday!!
