I read a lot of reviews of this hotel prior to commencing travel. A lot of the reviews were mixed, and i can see as the hotel is very new, a lot of the reviews to begin with were quite negative.

A congratulations must go to the team, as the hotel and staff are magnificent.

Overview:
We stayed in a Garden View room - we requested a ground floor room with a cot, and when we checked in this was all in place as requested.
We have 2 children (1 & 4) and the kids pool is just magnificent - i have travelled a lot with our children and i have not seen a better hotel for kids. There is an adults only pool which also looks great. Dinner buffets and restaurants were excellent also.

The only negative comment i can say is that as an ambassador club memeber i was not able to get an upgrade due to hotel being at capacity - but perhaps that is partly my fault for not notifying in advance.

Highly recommend this hotel for Fiji - i have been to Fiji a number of times over the years and this is the best resort we have stayed in by far.

Stayed here for 3 nights (long weekend). Arrived at 1.30pm and room was not available until 3.30pm so a bit of a wait considering checking was 2pm.
Had a great ocean view room - the downstairs rooms are the best as they have their own loungers..every room as an outdoor bath - definitely thought the rooms were fabulous.
The resort is limited to 3 restaurant options - buffet, pool bar/bistro dining / restuarant dining. We thought the quality and value of the restaurant dining was great - the tables for dinner were in a prime position to watch the sun set, and the cost was not that over the top compared to some resorts.
The resort is prone to the poor island facilities...we lost power countless times (not really an issue) and water for a whole day (a much bigger issue)... for a 5 star resort we would have expected more than a letter apologising for the inconvenience and expected the resort staff to have offered more advice (or even a bucket of water) on toilet facilities.....evenutally water resumed at 10pm, but for a lot of people this would have been a big inconvenience.
The staff are very friendly, but dont expect promt service....certainly you have to go in to Fiji mode on arrival!

The spa is highly recommended....good prices for what you get...truely a great experience.
The hotel transfer is the best option for getting to and from the airport.

Food was great, but more restaurants and more variety would help. Rooms absolutely beautiful and the view at the adults pool is just perfection. straight off a commercial. The only thing is the service at the restaurants, which I found to be quite disappointing. I also ventured into the spa for a deluxe pedicure which was quite disappointing, nothing special to comment on that. Not worth the value for that. Other than that, highly recommended for a very relaxing trip, where you can sleep in to the sounds of the waves beyond the large glass doors of your bedroom. Thumbs up!

We stayed 2 days at the resort. While we found the room, restaurants and amenities were outstanding we experienced a number of problems. The power in our room went out twice in 2 days. We booked deal which included buffet breakfast and dinner but on BOTH the mornings we went to breakfast they denied we had the buffet included in our package and a back and fro debate with reception ensued on both mornings. We presented our credit card on arrival but paid the total when we departed only to later discover they had double charged us for the room package and we then were required to arrange for them to reverse the charges, which they after about one week. I would not stay there again.

We probably should have researched our stay in Fiji a bit better before we went ... and yes, I know that's our fault - but we were a little bit bored staying at the InterCon Fiji! Being used to travelling in an "on the go" kind of way, we decided to take a week of chilling out in Fiji but ended up sitting there looking at each other the whole time. Now I love my other half but after a week of it, I think we both needed something else. There just weren't enough activities and the remote location of the place means you can't walk to anywhere with action and activity. The hotel itself is very nicely done and extremely comfortable (we had a King Suite on the beach side), service was 3.5 out of 5 and we had to get used to the fairly lazy way Fijians go about service. When we arrived we were driven to our room in a golf cart with Ayrton Senna at the wheel, almost a frightening experience! The food was a big let down, the quality just wasn't there and we were really disappointed with that aspect. The King Suite with the separate lounge area was worth the extra money although the bench seating wasn't the most comfortable, get one on the beach side though because the wind on the lagoon side will blow you off your balcony. All in all, close to being a really good place but just be aware that the location has its drawbacks, as do the food, wind and service.

The Resort is approx 45mins from Nadi so a pre-booked pickup is a must. The trip is on rough roads through typical Fijian landscape. Take in the views and you forget the rough roads. The greeting at the resort is a welcoming one, with Fijian drum beats, smiling and genuine Fijian staff. After a short wait we were transfered to the executive level which commands superb views over the the main resort and the sea. I will detail the Executive Floor later. After a short wait in the lounge, our room was ready. It was was a two bedroomed Burra - Room # 3813. Upon entering you are greeted by a feeling of space and comfort. This is short lived. To the left/rear was bedroom 2, with limited views of the garden etc. It consisted of a large king bed with good wardrobe space and a wall mounted TV. A seperate bathroom was across the hall way. The bathroom was spacious, seperate shower, plenty of towels etc and well kitted out with (according to our daughter) superb toiletries. On turning right you enter the large very spacious dining and lounge area. It had a large dining table, mini bar and a decently sized TV. It had two low bowl shaped seats, which were not terribly comfortable for periods of prolonged sitting. The bench styled seating along one wall which is the main seating in the room was terrible for sitting, comfort or relaxing. A great room ruined by bad seating options. Off the lounge/dining area was the main bedroom, with a king bed, wall mounted TV, excellent wardrobe space and storage. The problem here and I must point out some will not care, the bed. It was very, very firm and uncomfortable. During the night and especially in the morning, both my wife and I had sore aching backs. We did complain and they put a softer layer on the top to try and help but to no avail. Our sleep was badly disrupted. I must mention that we have have med/firm bed at home, but this was too firm for us. Others we met at the resort also offered negative comments on the beds. The large ensuite was superb with an excellent range of toiliteries. The shower and toilet (both have glass doors for privacy) are seperated by a two sink bench with ample space for everything. A large mirrored wall compliments the room. A great design. The views from the rooms were excellent with panoramic vistas across the roof tops of the resort. The exterior consisted of a very decently sized plunge pool, comfortable day bed, bowl shaped wicker seat and a superb spa bath. Two loungers on a small grassed area was also available. A very nice area. The room was also spoilt by its postion. Room 3813 is situated right at the end and the furtherest point away from the lounge. But seriously it is not hard to walk to the lounge. In fact it is a pleasant walk. The room, especially when it is windy is exceedly noisy - it whistles through the windows and things bang, making a good sleep again hard to achieve.
The executive lounge is terrific. It is staffed by the best people you find anywhere. I am not going to single any person out as they are all special. A truly great group of people. Breakfast is good with more than a decent selection of food that would suit anybodies taste. The only problem here is that food was not covered and was at times inundated with small flies. I mentioned that this was not good and it was immediatly rectified with glad wrap. But people did not recover the food and they still got under the wrapping. The food area does need to be covered. It is not good enough as it is. Afternoon tea is a pleasant way to relax and take in the expansive views across the superb infinity pool. Evening cocktails were great. Great selection of drinks and canapies all served by great people. It is a wonderful place to relax, just get the food covered - PLEASE!
We tried for lunch the restaurant inbetween the two main resort pools. Great area spoilt by below average food. We tried the pizzas one day and all three of us could not eat them, they were terrible. We tried the wraps another day they were edible but not enjoyable. We tried the main restaurant and again the food was very average. My chicken dish was tough. It was definitely an 'old boiler' it maybe once resembled a chicken but not once cooked. The food is not gourmet fare as described in the hotel advertising blurb. The gym is well stocked with machines and a good place to keep up your fitness levels. The 'Spa' facilities are excellent. The staff are terriffic and well trained in their respective craft.
What makes this hotel good - It is the people, position, outlook and facilities. What makes it bad - The food and is also let down by things that with more thought and consideration would make this place a world beater. It is a challenge for the management, not the people who work there every day. They are doing their respective best and are trying very hard to please.
Oh! yes. The golf course. Designed by Vijay Singh. Tough, but a superb test of your golfing abilities. Loose a few balls you will, but buy replacements on course from the obviously poor folk who hunt the lost balls out and sell them for FJD1.00 each. As my playing partner found out that if you play the day after you loose balls, you will no doubt be buying them back later.

We booked a Fiji trip with trepidation as we always thought of Fiji as tour groups and families. But we wanted an overseas trip close to home and a 'veggie' out holiday. The Intercontinental Fiji was great, the best service that we have ever experienced, great beach and snorkelling, great facilities and good value. The staff were simply great, they couldn't do enough to make our holiday enjoyable, Abraham and Miriama in the Toba Bar, and Josiah at the pool couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful, nothing was a problem. From when we walked in to when we walked out, we had the most pleasant relaxing break in our memory. We will be back regularly, just to charge the batteries. Only criticism the internet was unreliable and the resort could be windy, but so what, who cares. The horses on the beach are nominated as an issue by others, but that they are there is the tourists fault, if we didn't use them, they wouldn't be there. Great! If you want a de-stress, you couldn't do better. The rest of you should go to Bali and leave this for us!
