Being an IHG rewards club member we were excited to stay at the Intercon Fiji. Overall our experience was lovely and relaxing which is what we wanted.
Transfer to hotel was via Rosies holidays which we emailed the hotel direct to arrange. They were waiting once the plane arrived. Transfer took around 1 hour from airport.
Checkin was efficient and we were offered an upgrade as part of our membership. All club rooms were booked for a wedding party for the time of our stay.
We had a lagoon view room - king bed, double his / her sink, overhead rainforest shower, separate toilet in bathroom. We had a balcony with a soak bath on it. There is a curtain you can pull across for privacy. Lovely double mattress lounge on the balcony for reading / relaxing. Pure Fiji products provided, robe, slippers. TV and bose speakers / docking station on the bedside clock. Kettle, cups etc. Mini bar had limited items but basics for tea coffee etc.
Location
On the Coral Coast the resort itself is quite isolated. On a beautiful beach and Natadola Bay. The hotel is vast and well maintained. Its really lovely.
Restaurants
Kama Lounge - happy hour 5:30-7:30 for a nice cocktail. They have nightly entertainment here, nice grassed area with jumping castle for kids too. Also nice for bar snack / light meals during the day.
Toba bar and grill - we spent a few nights here for dinner. Great menu selection and drinks. More casual vibe looking over the pool. Every meal we are here was great during our stay. If you like lobster recommend the lobster spaghetti!
Sanasana - we had breakfast included so this is the buffet restaurant. We had breakfast here a few days, omelette making station and good selection for breakfast. We also had buffet dinner for the butchers block night which was great. This is child friendly, and a little noisy.
Navo - is the fine dining option with an italian menu. Its worth it. Navo is also adults only buffet breakfast which was nice and peaceful. Its continental buffet and order off menu for breakfast - lovely food and great service. The view is beautiful.
Vatu Lo Bar & Restaurant - the restaurant at the golf course. Catch a free bus transfer (less than 5 minutes) to the golf course which looks out over the coast. Beautiful views and we enjoyed a nice cocktail and lunch here.
The Spa
We had a few treatments here, very serene settings. They have a sauna, spa and ice bath to use before or after treatments. The spa is quite expensive but the treatments were good. Not excellent but good. One of the days another guest thought bringing their mobile phone to the spa was a good idea, speaking in another language the whole time was not great, especially paying over $200 to enjoy the relaxing experience.
The pools
Kids pool and adults only pool were beautiful. Always staff around to offer assistance. Every morning towels were on beds for guests to use. Not overly crowded and service for food / drinks was great.
Activities
We went snorkelling most days cost was $50fjd per person and we were on the reef about an hour or so each time. They have a boat that takes you to the reef points. The reef was lovely, good visibility and water was warm. If you like snorkelling recommend it. They also offer diving, jet skiiing, parasailing, stand up paddle board, surfing.
A few issues we had
- at checkin they take $200fjd bond for each day you are there. On day 3 they took a further $1800fjd off our card without notice or explanation (we did go ask why and someone was coming back to us and never did) we had cash so wanted to pay our bill in cash at the end and a 5-7 day wait for those funds they took to be refunded onto our card.
- we requested a late check out (twice) and were told it was ok. On the day of check out they were calling us to ask when we are checking out (3 hours before our late check out time)
- transfers to airport we had a 5pm flight and were told 2pm pick up. 2pm pick up ended up being 2:30pm pick up.
Having travelled extensively in Fiji the Intercontinental was a great hotel and relaxing experience. If you like to chill its perfect. If you want activity and a more cultural experience I would say Denarau is better. The staff are very professional and refined as in line with Intercon standard. The Fijiian people are incredibly beautiful people and at times felt their cultural touch was missed at the Intercon.
