“Why?”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

Over expensive...Gold Coast lookalike. It was worth a visit to look around, but the prices will soon kill the golden goose.

“Beach front at Denarau Island”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

Sand and the sea look really dirty (no rubbish), probably just the colour - possibily a bit of volcanic sand mixed in , but was uninviting

“Very ordinary”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

Denerau Beach is black sand & very ordinary, & some parts even quite dusty. No snorkelling at all. Have to travel to the islands for good beaches, swimming & snorkelling.

“Dark sand beach”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

If you have ever visited a dark sand beach, you will understand that it always looks dirty even though it isn't. The ocean was warm and great to walk along between the different resorts. Yes it does need more maintenance work, but it will never be a white sand beach. If you want white sandy beaches, this is not the place to visit. If you want a quiet and flat walk by the ocean to look around Denarau, then this is worth a look.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

The accommodation at the Westin was excellent however the food prices were absolutely ridiculous. We ordered 2x glasses of water and 2x pineapple juices for $27.00!
There did not seem to be much of a beach at Denaru - especially after being on Matamanoa Island - and there was certainly no one swimming in the water.
Denaru itself seems to be just one tourist resort after another and the shopping centre and surrounds seem to have been purpose built for western tourists - very similar to the canals on the Gold Coast. It seemed very 'fake' to us. Our hint would be to get off the Main Land and head out to the islands.
