Fiji Gateway Hotel
Ranked #1 of 25 Hotels in Nadi

Raffles Gateway is a solid transit hotel, not too fancy and not too expensive. And located just at the entrance to Nadi International Airport. If you are coming to Fiji for a holiday, it is unlikely you would stay at the Gateway: you quickly would move on to some place closer to a town or the beach or both. The Gateway is a FJD 15.00 (ca USD 7.50) taxi ride away from Nadi town; even further from the famed beaches of this part of the world. But, if you are taking another flight from Nadi - that is, in transit - the Gateway is for you. In my case, I arrived from Sydney too late to catch a plane to "Suva". I say that as "Suva" really is an airport in Nausori, about a FJD 30.00 taxi ride (local rates) from Suva itself. In some respects, taking one of the comfortable buses direct from the airport to Suva bus station could be good for some. The ca 4 hour journey, after all, is direct to downtown Suva from the door of Nadi airport. All up, travel to and from the respective airports, waiting time for boarding and unloading, there is little difference between air and ground. But if you are lucky and your arrival at Nadi is close to a plane departure, the plane can make sense.

Room Tip: This is motel style accommodation; the property is set well back from the road and never in the time...

Raffles Gateway is across the road from the Nadi Airport and a great choice for a stop over in Fiji. I stayed there at the beginning and end of a trip and was pleased with the location, the hotel, and my room. The rooms are more like small suites with a sitting "area" and a bed "area" plus a small balcony (for second story rooms). The balconies overlook either the pool or a courtyard. The first floor rooms have outdoor patios instead.

The hotel has an outdoor and an indoor dining area. I ate several meals and found the food just so-so. The breakfast buffet (included) was adequate but nothing special. There is also an outdoor bar open most of the day and a small shop on site. The grounds are well-kept and there are plenty of places to sit outside enjoying the sun or shade.

The staff was very friendly. The front desk can exchange money and there is a desk with a travel agency. I had a free day and booked an island tour that morning and was picked up at the hotel.

Note that Raffles Gateway is not affiliated with the more famous Raffles Hotels and Resorts, which I deduced when was told at the bar that they couldn't make a Singapore Sling.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have a balcony which gives more privacy that the patios on the first floors.

My diving buddy and I decided to rent a room at Raffles because we had a six hour layover at the Nadi Airport, and we thought we would nap, shower and have a good meal before our long flight back to the USA. Not finding the hotel shuttle, I walked across the large airport parking lot and crossed the busy road, carrying my bags, to reach the hotel. Keep in mind that Fiji is hot and humid, so good, quiet air conditioning is essential. The front desk was accommodating and the rate was reasonable, but everything else was a disappointment. The small room had cinderblock walls, no view and a noisy AC unit that made it impossible to nap. The room never cooled down, but by the time we realized this it was too late for us to request a different room. The shower was fine. Dinner at the under-airconditioned restaurant consisted of a curry dish served on a compartmentalized metal plate. It looked like prison fare and we couldn't finish it. The shuttle did take us back to the airport as expected, but overall we wished we had just stayed at the well air conditioned airport and waited for our flight there.

Room Tip: Make sure the AC works in your room before unpacking.

As many others we slept here for a night before taking an early flight from the airport, which is just beside the hotel (fast shuttle available to get there). The restaurant has good prices and good quality food, the room is ok, with a small balcony and maybe lights too weak. I don't have experience of other hotels in Fiji beside the resorts, however this is certainly a good place to stay.

We recently stayed at Raffles on our way home. The hotel is clean and comfortable although the beds are very hard. I would ask for an upstairs room ( the noise of the fans for the A/Cs on the ground floor, right outside your bedroom window, are very loud). I would also ask for a room like 209 or 210 which are away from the main part of the hotel and quieter.
The food is perfectly adequate and the price of drinks are very reasonable. The hotel is a good place to stay in transit rather than a holiday destination. They have a beautiful swimming pool with a huge slide which was enjoyed by lots of families. We have now stayed at Raffles four times and as an alternative to paying the very high prices of the hotels at Denarau we recommend it. I think they could make one small improvement and supply milk in the rooms for tea instead of the awful powdered creamer which is supplied.
The location so near the airport makes it a very convenient, short, two minute complimentary bus ride away.

Check in at Raffles took only about 5 minutes and we were quickly assisted to our rooms by the friendly staff. Clean room, especially the toilet & the bath and the towels were pure white with a fresh smell. Staff always willing to assist and assisted with directions.

Though the hotel provided transport to & from the airport, we were surprised to learn that we only had to cross the hotel car park & the main road to get to the hotel which may have taken us only 5 minutes.

Wise full advice, do not catch a cab but instead take a 'running cab' from the main road to get into Nadi or Lautoka city. They only charge you $2 to Nadi city as opposed to $15 to $20 if you are hiring a taxi.

Food at the hotel is great but a bit expensive. Cross the main road & have meals at the airport which may cost $8 (restaurants near the Vodaphone Office.

Overall excellent staff and they make a difference. Excellent pools and restaurants.

Room Tip: Rooms far from the pools
