This was the worst place we stayed at on our trip. We did a 1 night stay at the Sandalwood lodge before we headed out to our resort in the Yasawa Islands. It was a really really bad place. Let me start off by saying that the staff themselves were very courteous and friendly. However no amount of friendliness can make up for the accomodations. Our room was on the main floor. It was infested with little red ants, flies, and had a lizard in the bathroom. The sheets were stained and the pillows were pretty disgusting with stains- not even sure what colour they were... pukey yellow maybe?
I was so tired by the time we got there and all I wanted was a clean/comfortable place to sleep. Instead I started crying, and was wondering how I was going to make it through the night. We layed our clothes down over the sheets and pillows and pushed chairs up against the doors (it was a bit of a scary area!) and tried to sleep. We were outta there by 7am! We had to go up the road to catch a shuttle from the Mercure Hotel to take us to the Yasawa Flyer. The Mercure looked clean and waaay better than Sandalwood! Next time, we would definitely just pay the extra money and stay at the Mercure.

Sandalwood is a clean, friendly budget accommodation option. It is set back from the main road, and is close to a small restaurant that has great cheap meals. The bus stop is on the main road about 500m from the lodge. Staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and well presented and are thoroughly cleaned every day. The pool is fairly small but a nice place to have a dip and cool off. There is a grass area which is great for kids to run around on and it is a reasonably safe area that small folk can't suddenly disappear out of site from! It was good value for money and I would stay there again next time. Hopefully they would remember to pick me up from the airport next time though!

As a solo traveler I stayed twice at the Sandalwood Hotel in Nadi and would gladly stay there again. The 30 or so motel style units are clustered around an interior garden with tidy lawn, palm trees and small swimming pool. I didn't mind the noise from the pool because it was joyful noise.

The rooms are spacious, clean and safe with screens on windows and shaded balcony overlooking the garden and have a small kitchen too.

The management is friendly and helpful and goes beyond the call of duty in prompt and friendly service. Two of a few examples: A running toilet was fixed when I got back from town. They have a free airport transfer and kindly drove me to the bus stop.

The hotel is on a quiet residential street about half way between Nadi town and the airport and just two blocks from bus stops. It feels like a peaceful little refuge!

As an experienced traveler, I recommend the Sandalwood.

nadi(pronounced NANDI) has many overpriced 4 star accommodations but sandalwood lodge (not to be confused with sandalwood inn;run by same family)is a modern 2 story building in an easily accessable location that provides, with a smile, all the facilities that a traveler needs including a small pool, full kitchen and clean bedding.rooms have a double and a single bed..they do free pick ups from airport and are only 150 metres from bus to nadi (15 minutes).in fiji courtesy has nothing to do with the price you pay-often the reverse-and on my last visit after flying from los angeles(10 hours)they had their driver take me to nadi town markets and currency exchange at no additional cost.there is also a butcher(sign in shop said "no cow meat sold here") within extended walking distance..this lodge is an excellent base for visiting the islands as they have luggage storage.all usual tourist info facilities.you can do a 4 hour cruise to all inner tourist islands and there is now a one day fast catamaran trip available to the yasawas(a must) for $100 that drops passengers off at many interesting lodges before returning after a one hour turnaround that allows for swimming/snorkelling at nacula bay..if you choose to use this boat to stay at one,or more islands the price increases to about $180...warning; suva is dangerous and best avoided, the so called "coral coast" resorts are isolated meaning you will probably be restricted to your resorts restaurants.nadi is an uninteresting town but provides all tourist services including supermarkets..the market stalls are a must to stock up on cheap tropical fruit...
