We were a bit "stir crazy" stuck on Port Denarau for a family wedding and over the emptiness and self-indulgence of the 5 star resorts. We hired a taxi driver for a half day tour and popped into the Nadi fruit and flower markets, tasted the strongest kava, that the locals drink (not the watered-down one for the tourists), bought fresh cut open coconuts to drink and some fresh fruit and beautiful flowers for my sister's wedding. Also on the itinerary was the Hindu temple in Nadi, Viseisei village and the orchid gardens. We fitted all of this into a morning. The gardens were lovely- however the walkways are a little uneven and there is a steepish climb and one of our elderly group members had to turn back. Entry is $16 but we bartered a reduction for our group of 13.
