I didn't expect to find yummy Japanese food in Nadi so this was a nice surprise. It was recommended to us by the manager of a cruise company in Denarau. Tasty saki, miso soup, a great salad, yakatori, wasabi beef and chicken teriyaki. The staff was very kind and helpful. A great place to grab dinner.

Thank you very much for Dining at Daikoku Restaurant.
We have been running Japanese Restaurant in Fiji for 19 years.
We believe that continuing the business is the proof of our quality, although we sometimes face shortage of service staff and skilled staff due to unexpected resignation.

Delicious food! A little pricey for the portion sizes but a great place to splurge for one night after spending 2 weeks eating on a budget.
Super friendly and smiling staff.

The staff is very friendly. However this does not help a lot if the raw fish is being kept at high temperatures for hours, cleaning towels are being used for all kinds of purposes in the kitchen.
The carpet which was once red (which you can still see under the artificial flower pots if somebody moves them a bit) is now black because of lack of cleaning. The same is true for the fabric of the chairs. Disgusting!

Thank you very much for dining at Daikoku Restaurant.
And we regret that we could not satisfy you.

We appreciate for your comment, but I am afraid that we disagree to what you wrote about handling raw fish, and kitchen towel.
We would like to correct your misunderstanding.

First of all, we didn't have any suspicious raw fish which may have caused food poisoning during the period of time when you may have dined at our Restaurant.
I am not able to specify the date of your dining, though, one of my cook tasted fish everyday before he served during that period.
We always taste raw fish which we are going to serve for the day.
In case, we found the quality of raw food material is not good, we do not use it for our guests, and consume it as staff meal.

In regards to handling fish,
We have never ever kept raw fish material at high temperature for hours.
We never purchase fish at local market because fish at local market is not kept in cool storage.
Therefore, we always purchase fish from reliable fisherman who can keep fish in ice cubes as soon as they catch.
Even during fish processing, we keep fish in ice.
And I always keep reminding Kitchen Staffs of keeping fish/seafood in cooler all the time as soon as it is processed.
Otherwise, I personally do not feel safe to eat raw fish at my place, and I am not able to allow my staff to serve anything which I can not eat to our customer.

As a food handler, what we are making importance on is serving safe food as well as the quality.

Regarding to kitchen towels,
It is common sence not to mix up towels.
We use towel for chopping board for chopping board only, towel for raw food for raw food only.
Towels for wiping processing table for that table only.
Towels for oily part for cleaning oily area only.
We never use table towels (for cleaning top surface of the table) for cleaning for lower part of table.

But one towel which sometimes may not look clean is Towel for Teppan-Yaki cooking.
That is cooking towel specialized in using for Teppan-Yaki Cooking.
However since oil and sauce are wiped with it, the towel gets brownish easily if cook did not wash towel as soon as they used. Especially, when a Teppan chef continuously go cooking one after another.

It is never used for cleaning or other purpose, of course.
But we have to remind all worker to maintain the towel more cleaner in every cooking basis rather than in daily basis as long as guests have such impression.

And there is no excuse for our Carpet and chair material.
Carpet shampoo cleaning is carried out regularly, But we have to close shop for drying the carpet so we always seek for the timing to do cleaning it in low season.
Grease can be removed by shampoo however black stain on our carpet was caused by delivered tar sand when tar seal was done at front car park which we can not removed by carpet Shampoo.
We look for new carpet or alternative floor material for easier maintenance, but it is not small job.

About material for chair, it has a defect on the design of our chair.
The inner sponge holds water long time when we wash chair.
Therefore we can only wipe the top material, but we sometimes are not able to remove stain thoroughly.
Currently, we are looking for someone locally who can make new chair with removable cushion cover.

It is regretful that you could not be happy with us.
We hope to have some opportunity to serve you again.

We were recommend to this restaurant by the owner of the Island resort which we stayed in while in Fiji.

What a surprise when we walked upstairs to find it was teppanyaki. We enjoyed a lovely complementary salad for starters as the waitress was concerned with the time we had been waiting. This surprised us both as we didn't even realise we had been waiting. Ordered a serve of tempura prawns for starters very well cooked. The meal was an enjoyable and an entertaining evening.

This is a must do in Nadi, Cheap, Cheap with great food. Will be recommending this restaurant to everyone we know who is visiting Fiji.

The food might seem expensive when you compare to the places around you, but just compare to the prices in the US, it's super cheap, without suffering in quality. The owners are Japanese which doesn't guarantee authenticity but doesn't hurt. Overall hightly recommended.

Thank you very much for choosing Daikoku Restaurant.
We are trying to serve quality food at reasonable price, cheap food can be served at cheap price, though.
