“Clean rooms and brilliant restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2014

I travelled alone and was initially slightly nervous about how quiet this hostel was; however it's on the same strip as all of the big traveller hostels and is much more relaxing and according to people I met - more clean. The restaurant served great food and the staff were really friendly.

It was very positive surprise to see how nice, clean and friendly this place was. I was sharing 4 bed room with the most interesting people, men and women from Europe and USA. The breakfast was good ,5 FJ$, and since the guests spend their days on the beach, 200 m. or doing whatever, the kitchen, which has really good meals, opened at 6 PM.
Price/value ratio is excellent.

I had a month to kill and picked the Blue water because I could have a four bed dorm with a/c,mine worked some of the other rooms had problems, but in September it was not needed.
The room was clean as was the linen and regularly changed, the showers could be cleaner but there was plenty of hot water.
The meals were great, and not the dearest in the area ,I dined here almost all the time, the menu was a little limited but if I asked I could have any combination I liked, promblem solved.
The staff were more than friendly and helpful, the other guests, there were a number of them using the Bluewater as a base, were wonderful without exception, it felt like home.
The wifi was on and off, but I must admit we gave it a good workout,it handled more than basic email.
Pool quality also variable, but there was nothing seriously wrong during my stay.
The area is a little remote from Nadi but you don't want to go there every day,bus fare $1.25,taxi $8.00.
I would stay again,loved the $3.50 stubbies.

We had been here twice about two years ago. We had great memories and remember it as a proper backpackers, well maintained, with great staff and being actually a gem compared to the dodgy backpackers that you can find in the area.

This time, we found again great staff, very smiley, and still the best of the backpackers of the area. However, the bluewater lodge really needs an upgrade as we didn´t find it as we remembered. The lodge is not that extremelly clean, almost all the windows in the dorms are broken, aircon does not work, and bed sheets were a bit dirty (I am afraid they were not replaced after the previous guests left). Something needs to be done with the mosquitoes, perhaps mosquito nets? The pool was not clean. I didn´t enjoy the bunkbeds, I liked as it was before with single beds (at the end of the day, the dorms are still for four people).

The worse experience we had this time is that on the last night some people were loud at night outside till 2 am, not letting other guests sleep. Maybe setting up an area by the front of the lodge for people to keep drinking would be more appropriate, as at the end of the day, most of the guests come to this place to get some sleep before, or after travelling.

I would really encourage Fiona and other owners to invest a bit to replace windows and aircon (just charge $2-3 more if aircon power bills are an issue) and make this place again what once was, before the bluewater lodge keeps getting more bad and average reviews, and giving away more guests to the comercial Smugglers, and dodgy Horizon and Bamboo.

In this review I am giving 4 stars instead of the three that the current maintenance of the lodge deserves, thanks to the staff, as they were just great and this is by far the best backpackers in the area.

I need to say thanks to Aco and the guys from the kitchen, as you guys were again great, helpful, fun and smiley. Thanks guys!!!! The food was still amazing as we remembered, and it is great to have some beers for the price they actually should be everywhere.

If we come back to Nadi, we will come back to the BWL

Bluewater Lodge's double rooms were out of our budget and we didn't want to stay in the dorm, so we didn't get to stay here. But we took a look at the double room and it was spacious, clean and pleasant. Wish we could have afforded it! However, we visited the restaurant several times and the food was consistently excellent. They have an all-day (8 am to 3 pm) $10 FJD breakfast that's a great deal (eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, hash brown and tomato confit), and the dinner dishes are so good, it's hard to believe the prices are a little lower than some of the other places around. They're prepared lovingly and the flavours are all great, everything was cooked to perfection. We had the fish of the day, the grilled lemon chicken and the chicken coconut curry. The mashed potatoes and vegetables that come with the lemon chicken were perfectly done! They also have the cheapest bottles of Fiji Gold and Bitter around ($3.50). This is a little hidden gem -- not many people staying in the area knew of it because it's on a side street.

Stayed in a private room with en suite for 1 night. The food was good (and very cheap) and the building, pool and its surrounds were quite nice but the room we were in had seen better days with broken aircon, broken windows and it not being anywhere near as clean as it could have been. For $100fjd a night I would have expected better. The staff were excellent and really friendly though and the beer was really cheap.

I understand that Fiona is one of the owners of this hostel and that the other owner lives overseas. This maybe the reason why the hostel is in a bad state of repair, with a swimming pool which is not well-maitained and air-con. which sometimes doesn't work. Would not be my first choice next time.
