Black Rock Villas

What a wonderful find!!! Black Rock Villas is simply THE property for unsurpassed relaxation. Having visited Rarotonga on many occasions I will never need to search for the perfect place to unwind again. The hosts, Michelle and Andy couldn't have been more accommodating or thoughtful, the pool divine, the location fantastic, not to mention Lucy, our three legged companion and the kids forever furry friend.

This superb location afforded us with a marvellous viewpoint with which to enjoy a humpback whale on its migration which meant our holiday was extra special. I would have no hesitation recommending this location to families, couples (or honeymooners).

We were impressed by the friendly reception and out of the way attitude of Holger and his family during our stay. Half way during our trip we did an overnight trip to Aiututaki and even though we did not pay for this night, we were allowed to keep our luggage and belongings in the room. Late checkout was not a problem, very convenient for our mid afternoon flight.

We loved our stay at Black Rock Villas. We couldn't fault the villa or grounds in any way, it was well equipped and immaculately clean. Many of our friends and family stayed at nearby resorts and we found Black rock to be far superior but at a similar (if not cheaper) cost. Our hosts were so friendly, relaxed and accommodating, clearing rubbish, changing sheets and cleaning the bathrooms regularly (but without intruding). Great views, only a short walk to the beach and close to town, we will definitley stay at Black Rock again on our next stay in Rarotonga.

Black Rock Villas was the perfect holiday choice and we would highly recommend staying there if you're going to Rarotonga. It is very suitable for couples or families. Our hosts Holger, Sven and Mieke were fantastic. Nothing was too difficult and they did everything to help make our holiday as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We really appreciated their warm and friendly hospitality. They are lovely people to get to know and made our holiday all the more enjoyable.

Aside from the beautiful, relaxing pool, in which we spent many hours, Lucy, the three-legged dog, was a particular highlight for our three children. She is such a friendly and pleasant-natured dog, and loved coming along for walks and swimming in the sea (there was good snorkelling all around the coral reef at black rock). Our children were very sad to say goodbye to their new friend for life.

The accommodation is very comfortable, well maintained and equipped with everything you may need, including even an outdoor gas oven and BBQ. The villa was spacious, extremely well cleaned and serviced very regularly. It was cool and relaxing - just what you want on a tropical island - and we enjoyed lounging on the covered patio looking out at the beautiful gardens and setting with views over the sea. It also makes a difference staying in owner-managed accommodation. The over one thousand movies on the hard drive provided plenty of options for us, including around 80 children's movies.

There are a number of restaurants, a few convenience stores, churches and some other resorts nearby (within walking distance along the beach) and you can catch the local bus from the villas, or easily hire scooters or a car. Another highlight we highly recommend is the island cultural show and buffet dinner at Crown Beach Resort.

We spent 2 weeks at Black Rock Villas and had a wonderful family holiday. Thanks again Holger, Mieke, Sven ... and of course Lucy!

Spacious, clean, private and well equipped villa sharing a lovely garden and salt water pool. All water is filtered, so you can drink straight from the tap. Wonderful, polite and helpful owners. Walk to the beach in a couple of minutes, or watch the reef and sea from the pool. It's a very beautiful and relaxing spot. Recommend also eating at their restaurant (open Sat and Sun).

Highly recommended - this is a quiet, beautiful location overlooking the lagoon and ocean, with only 2 villas and a restaurant on the property. Our villa was well-appointed, and very comfortable - the ocean breezes blew through the rooms and the fans overhead meant the temperature was always pleasant. It was an easy stroll down the driveway and over the road to the beach to snorkle or stroll or watch the sunset. We stayed for a week and ate at the restaurant on the Saturday and Sunday nights - the meals were the best we had while in the Cook Islands. We didn't need to hire a car - instead we used the local bus that travels around the island every hour for NZ4. Some of the restaurants and attractions even picked us up and dropped us back afterwards. We took a fabulous day trip to Aitutaki, which included bus pickup, the return flight, a 4WD tour of Aitutaki and a wonderful lagoon cruise on The Vaka - gourmet lunch, swimming and snorkeling in a beautiful lagoon, plus Polynesian entertainment. And the weather was so mild!

Room Tip: Only two villas - both great - we stayed in the one on the further side of the pool.
