A wonderful place to float around the pool on a lilo whilst sipping cold beer!

Highly recommended - this is a quiet, beautiful location overlooking the lagoon and ocean, with only 2 villas and a restaurant on the property. Our villa was well-appointed, and very comfortable - the ocean breezes blew through the rooms and the fans overhead meant the temperature was always pleasant. It was an easy stroll down the driveway and over the road to the beach to snorkle or stroll or watch the sunset. We stayed for a week and ate at the restaurant on the Saturday and Sunday nights - the meals were the best we had while in the Cook Islands. We didn't need to hire a car - instead we used the local bus that travels around the island every hour for NZ4. Some of the restaurants and attractions even picked us up and dropped us back afterwards. We took a fabulous day trip to Aitutaki, which included bus pickup, the return flight, a 4WD tour of Aitutaki and a wonderful lagoon cruise on The Vaka - gourmet lunch, swimming and snorkeling in a beautiful lagoon, plus Polynesian entertainment. And the weather was so mild!

Room Tip: Only two villas - both great - we stayed in the one on the further side of the pool.

Villas are a really good size must be around 100sq metres, fully equipped and very clean. Good for groups as each Villa has completly seperate bathrooms and bedrooms.
The pool is also excellent.

It's a pity about the one negative review as I really don't see how it is justified as we experienced none of the issues raised.

Make sure you take Lucy the three legged dog for a walk and you'll have a friend for life.

We'll be back.

We hired both villa's for our families and had our wedding in the garden. We can not say enough about how amazing our hosts were. They went out of their way to make our day perfect. They arranged extra pots of flowers for the garden and then placed them in the garden in the rain. Holger and Sven are brilliant hosts. The villa's were cleaned everyday. The pool was lovely and our familes had a brilliant stay as well.

The villa's were lovely and even though there were 5 people staying in each villa there was plenty of room. The location to town was great as the bus's came by every 30 min or so. There was scooter hire just down the road.

We had our reception at Villa's as well and the food was perfect. We can not say enough about the whole experience. Everyone who came to the wedding was amazed at the hidden gem that Black Rock Villa's is.

If you would like a place to chill out then Back Rock Villas is for you. My 21 yr old son and I stayed for just on a week, during this, the supposed cyclone season.

The weather has been almost perfect and we have enjoyed our stay tremendously. The Pool here at Black rock Villas is exceptional and we lost count how many times we went for a swim and didn't want to get out.

Black rock, which gives the Villas its name, provides a great, safe little natural pool in the sea for a dip, immediately across the road from the Villas.

The Villas are well appointed and very comfortable, lovely views and handy to just about everything on the island.

The Gardens surrounding the Villas are lush and green and the Owners keep the property immaculate. Our Hosts, Holger, Mieke and Sven couldnt do enough for us, from an impromptu lesson in husking a coconut to sharing their extensive knowledge of the island and what there is to do and see.

The restaurant, Tuoro, is open for Saturday and Sunday nites only and it pays to book in early as seats are limited and it is often frequented by other ex pats and business owners from around the island. The service is more personal as the nightly bookings are not all about bums on seats but personal attention and absolutely great food.ensures a wonderful indoor/outdoor dining experience.

The "devine chocolate mousse" is unable to be taken off the menu whenever it is revised as Mieke has to face so much opposition!

So if you want a place to truly relax, have your own space, great value for money especially for families with awesome hosts then Black Rock Villas is the place to stay.

We (4 adults & 1 child) stayed at Black Rock Villas on the last night of our 10 day holiday following a trip to Aitutaki. We were greeted by wonderful hosts, who while serving a full restaurant (open Sat/Sun only) of hungry guests, managed to ensure we settled in.
As the restaurant was fully booked, we were waitered on in our Villa!
What service. Amazing. So we dined like Kings & Queens on our own terrace, overlooking a spectacular garden & pool setting, beyond to the moon lit sea.
The Villa's are Prime Luxury. Anything you could wish for & more. Self contained is an under statement. With only two Villa's onsite, you get to have the pool to yourself - often!
We shared our Villa with another couple & their son, comfortably.
Had we had known about this "Gem" we would have booked both Villa's for our entire Rarotonga holiday.
The hospitality & food quality was top class.
The facility itself and view was exceptional. When we considered what we had "as our own" and compared it to the other 2 Resorts we stayed at, Black Rock Villa's is not to be passed by. The nightly rate is a suprise when you look at the exceptional standards.
We will be back.

We stayed at the Black Rock Villas again this February for 3 weeks, and again it was just perfect. Mieke, Holger, Sven, Toru and of course Lucy made our stay so enjoyable. It was a good season for fruit, there was so much of it that we couldn't eat it as fast as it fell from the trees. We rented a small car from Island car rentals down the road and drove around the island over and over. The Hasselman's know the Island well and were helpful with giving us ideas as where to go. We find that the whole island is so welcoming that one can go anywhere and feel safe and at ease. We always feel like one of the locals and not so much a tourist and that is . We went to Muri beach and Sven and Toru took us out for a paddle in the big Vaka(canoe), it was just the best. We hiked the cross island trek and took treats for the roosters that visited us along the way. We took a side trip to Aitutaki just in time to experience Cyclone Pat. As exciting as that was it was great to get back to our villa at Black Rock where we knew the building was safe and secure. The food at the on site restaurant was delicious and we tried new dishes as well as our favorite tuna. Thank you so much for your hospitality and we hope to be back soon!
