Having looked at the reviews, I knew I wanted us to attend the Sunday morning service. I have never before enjoyed a church service as much as this one. The singing is wonderful..it made me feel quite emotional. It was just great to see the joy the congregation have in singing and worshiping in this lovely church. If our U.K. Churches were as joyous to visit as this church our churches wouldn't be so empty! visitors are welcome to join in the refreshments that are served after the service. Before leaving Rarotonga I bought a C.D. Of church choir singing....on rainy days I play this and I am instantly transported back to that lovely Sunday service.

Definitely worth attending while in Rarotonga. Amazing harmony of male and female singers in turn. Friendly and welcoming. Hymns are projected onto a screen and they appreciate all efforts to sing along in Cook Island Maori, as well as English.

we went to the old church in Avarua, next to a colonial house and in front of the Beachcomber Pearl market. Amazing! People and smiling and welcoming. During the mass gospels are sung and as the text is displayed, we took part in the singing even if in maori. After mass you are invited to a buffet lunch organized by the church and the lovely ladies belonging to the church. As a tradition wear white clothings and wear a hat. The gospels are really touching. Not to miss this experience. Visit the cemetary as well.

Even if you are not a religious person or you visit a church only occasionally you will enjoy the 10am Sunday morning mass.
A data projector projects the lyrics in Rarotonga Maori and English on the wall and you can sing your lungs out. Even if your melody might differ from the original tone, dont worry. The church goers sing so loud you can barely hear your own voice. Too shy to sing? Then just enjoy the South Pacific influenced church songs. They will get right into your heart. Promised! It is truly an amazing experience you should not miss!!!!!
