Unfortunately our visit to the Saturday market was the day before our departure. To all visitors try and go at the start of your visit. A wonderful place to buy all sorts of food and local fruit , vegetables etc. and to see / talk to the Cook Islanders. Highlight of the market was watching the dancers about midday especially the very little ones, absolutely inspiring to see their enthusiasm and confidence. Thank you Rarotonga for a superb holiday.

Every Saturday, the town center comes alive with the local markets. The markets are very well laid out, with music, food, crafts, and entertainment. There is a good selection of everything the island has to offer, including souvenirs for tourists. Has a wonderful atmosphere, and everyone on the island makes a day of it. Would recommend you find your own transport to the markets, though, as the buses are full to the brim all day!

Had the chance to go to the market twice while in Raro and thoroughly enjoyed it both times.

The locals were friendly and quick to help out, but not pushy with sales.

Loved the guy selling ukulele's who gave several demo's for different customers, while we were looking. Nothing was too much trouble for him and we ended up buying one his hand made uke's for $250 and one made out of a coconut shell for $50. To be honest, the cheaper uke sounded just as good as the more expensive one when he played it, but we put this down to the person playing it. He was awesome!

We were also looking for black pearls and the carved mother of pearl. We weren't disappointed, but you do have to look around at all of the stalls to find what you want. We found some of our better bargains and craft work at the not so flashy stalls.

Food stalls are everywhere and if you make it through the market without buying food before you get to the end, I'll be surprised. It was good sitting down to eat and watch the entertainment. An excellent way to spend your Saturday morning in Raro.

I have visited markets all over the world. This is the best. An authentic chance to buy local produce and to mix with locals as well as visitors. Great place for visitors in self catering accommodation to stock up on supplies. Make sure you stay and watch the free cultural show. Why pay for a show in a resort when you can see the real thing for free? And check out the handicrafts, wood prints, fabrics and other artistic/handcraft work.
