Spent 5 wonderful nights. Food from restaurant was beautiful. Staff provided excellent service. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Would love to go back and stay in one of the beachfront units. Visited the Rarotongan as my parents/brother were staying there. It was dirty, staff were unhelpful, emails sent to my brother were delivered to the honeymoon suite 2 days after the wedding, and it was very windy. The Sunset is on the sheltered side of the island. The family wished they had all booked at the Sunset. Smaller resort so great for relaxing and with 2 pools you can enjoy without the crowds.
Tamarind house and Trader Jacks well worth a visit too.

We chose Sunset after looking at reviews and pricing for all other hotels in Rarotonga; for the money Sunset looked like the best option. As soon as we arrived I knew it was. We were picked up from our midnight flight by the lovely Kiki and shown to our poolside studio room, everything was ready despite the late arrival and nothing was a problem.

The bed was firm but not hard and though there was only a small TV Rarotonga only has one TV channel so not a problem. Seriously if you're in Raro and you watch TV then you're missing out on some good relaxation anyway. The resort has DVD's at reception complimentary - Three Days of the Condor was perfect for a rainy afternoon. Not the largest selection but a great range.

The bathroom was spacious and clean, the shower was powerful and hot. Most of Raro has solar water heating to save power. The room had a kitchenette with a gas burner, as well has pots pans and utensils. We made lunch everyday from food bought at the main food store in town as well as some dry pasta meals we bought over (nice and cheap lunch). Breakfast was included in the room rate, continental with choices of cereal, toast, fresh fruit, juice, coffee and at times additional options like muffins and yogurt. We had dinner once at the Anchorage restaurant and while the food was reasonable for the price I would recommend getting out and trying some of the other places close by (Kikau Hut is really good just down the way with the best live music, just as long as you don't mind the two resident cats)

There are two pools at the Sunset, the larger one salinated which we looked over and the smaller chlorinated and next to the bar. We swam in the main one everyday and it was lovely. The beach was accessible through a walkway between the beach front studio's and was groomed every day by the Sunset staff, keeping the beach clear of coral and rocks. The snorkeling is great right outside the Sunset however the best on the island is south a little over the road from the fruits of Rarotonga.

We hired a scooter for a couple of days from Solomon and his daughter at CarWorx directly over the road from Sunset - they helped us out with a great price for the time we had left and I recommend you wander over and say hi. Scooters are the best way to get around, helmets optional. While there are a few accidents everyone toodles around at 30 - 40 km's/ hr; you're on island time so there's no such thing as a rush! If you do get a scooter take a look at the inland back ring road for a taste of true Rarotonga. You could also take a 4X4 tour and get some great views and some hard case guides (thanks Mr Hopeless!)

We were happy choosing Arorangi to base ourselves from - it isn't as touristy as Muri Beach and was handy to town. Muri was lovely with the best beach but also has most of the tourists and tour operators. I liked being away from the bustle and just doing a day trip down there on the scooter.

We felt so relaxed the entire time we planned our wedding. The staff at Sunset Resort did everything right and were so well organised! From helpful pre-arrival information and travel information to endless smiles and help during our stay, the staff surpassed our expectations. Combined with a perfect location on the beach but close to town and the airport, two swimming pools, and an excellent restaurant, I can't recommend Sunset Resort highly enough.

This was a reasonably solid hotel but I could not find anything special about it. It was not bad either and the food was quite ok. I found it a bit expensive for what it offered.

Just got home from 7 nights at the Sunset Resort which we were very happy with.  Its handy to eating places that are only a short walk from the resort and the on site restruant is also good to eat at.  The beach is lovely with good snokelling right at your front door.  We had a poolside studio which was lovely and clean had everything you would want in the kitchen, that is if you wanted to cook.  The pools were clean and a good size and cocktail hour was fun.
