“Aremango's is the best!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2007

I loved my stay at Aremango's! As the other glowing reviews also state, it is clean, friendly, spacious, quiet, and has absolutely everything you need from spacious clean rooms, to hot showers to a great open plan kitchen with everything you need to make your own yummy food. There is a DVD room and a great outdoor deck area with a BBQ where you can relax with fellow travellers over a few beers...they also have hammocks. It is a 2 minute walk to the best beach on the island. You can borrow the guesthouse's bikes for the day too.

The best part about Aremango's is the Manager - Amanda - she is delighful and very helpful and knowledgeable about the island. Thanks for a wonderful stay Amanda - I miss the place heaps already.

This is a great little place for the budget conscious traveller. Nice and clean, spacious yet cosy, right next to the nicest beach on the island / the most popular part of the island Rarotonga. They have great basic facilities - good kitchen with all the cooking facilities, new fridges and new gas stove, a nice covered wooden deck with tables and chairs to eat out on in the shade and to lounge on, hammocks, a TV room with DVD player for the evenings with a good collection of DVD's. The manager Amanda is great and very helpful. Couldn't praise this place enough.

I ended up staying here because of problems down the road with Vara's screwing up my booking. This place is much nicer than Vara's anyway...

  • Liked — Cheap, next to best beach, clean, good facilities, friendly manager
  • Disliked — No Internet - BUT they will be getting it soon and you can get access down the road at a cafe

We stayed here for a week and then went back again after a trip to Aitutaki. Very friendly and helpful hosts, nice guests and a lot of DVDs for rainy days in the tv-room. Very comfortable beds, a good atmosphere and a great location.

Aremango is a no frills place with all the facilities a budget traveller expects: a nice and clean kitchen, big airy rooms, spottless bathrooms and a friendly welcoming atmosphere. Located steps away from the wonderful Muri beach, restaurants, shops, bicycle and car rental (I highly recommend renting a bicycle to do the loop around the island). But best of all is the cool relaxed atmosphere. Coming back from a week in Aitutaki we felt that we were coming back home.

What a find! I had originally planned on just showing up at the airport in Raro and seeing what happens but as it turned out I'm so glad that I sent an email from the airport in Auckland (free internet!) to the Aremango. Not having had a chance to check for replies I arrived at the airport and was pleasantly surprised to be picked up by Amanda and her minivan!
The rooms are nice, with the all-important ceiling fan, closet and comfortable bed. The kitchen is great (I like to cook) and stocked with everything you need to cook up a meal. There are several bathrooms and are nicely decorated and most importantly, very clean! For a 'backpackers' this place goes above and beyond! I would recommend it to anyone looking for the best beach location, wonderful hosts and a good night's rest on the island.
Just one thing: as for anywhere in the South Pacific, bring along ear plugs because the free-roaming chickens (and roosters) can be quite loud in the morning!!! ; )
Oh yes, and in case you get bored of the blue skies and clear waters (haha), there is also a nice TV lounge replete with the latest DVDs from around the world. And for the kayak-adventurous, there is also a double kayak for rent.

All in all, the best pick for Raro!

Lovely family-run hostal with a very laid back vibe. Very pretty, simple rooms and nice clean shared bathrooms - good showers with constant hot water! Direct access to the beach 25m away which has some of the best snorkelling on the islands. Full use of kitchen and massive DVD library. The best thing about the place though is the friendly owner who is a mine of information about the islands and the things to do there. Very highly recommended.

I've travelled extensively in the Cook Islands, have friends there that I can and do stay with. I didn't want to impose and just wanted to be a tourist rather than a local for the end of my stay. Found Aremango through a friend and when I got there I was impressed with all the work that the new owners had put into renovations inside and out. It's a short, 2 min, private walk to one of the best beaches on Raro. It's well landscaped and not as loud and busy as some of the other more famous budget places in the area. A great place to relax and while I was trying to be a tourist, Amanda made me feel like family.

  • Liked — The welcoming staff and relaxing atmosphere.
  • Disliked — Nothing really
