“A great place to stay in Montevideo!”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Located in the Pocitos area, this Apart Hotel is just a couple blocks away from the beach, and walking distance to the main comercial street. Supermarket, pharmacies, gas station and coiffeur all just around the corner! And the neighbourhood is worth walking!

The rooms are simple, ours included a balcony (ours on the seventh floor had no view...except that of the building across the internal patio), two single beds, table and chairs area, large wardrobe, and a kitchenette (fairly supplied, if you are planning on dinner keep it simple!) and TV (which is missing most of the movie pack channels) and wifi for free. The bathroom is small but comfortable and has great water pressure, lot's of towels, including beach towels and a hairdryer.

The staff was really helpfull and friendly, they kindly solved our rainy day by providing us with umbrellas!
The elevator is kind of a nightmare, for starters there's only one, and if you don't hop on fast enough, the doors will close on you (if you are carrying lot's of bags my suggestion is pull on the small stop lever)

The continental breakfast is just perfect! All kinds of fruits, youghurts, cereals, eggs and bacon, and all the pastries you can eat! On weekends they extend the breakfast service for an hour till 11am.

Overall, the location is excellent if you are planning on seeing Montevideo, and enjoying the beach!

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor are too close to the cafeteria, it can get kind of noisy during the breakfa...

We spent five nights at the Punta Trouville Apart hotel. As noted in earlier reviews, there are two separate buildings (Punta Trouville Apart Hotel and Punta Trouville Suites). This review is for the “Apart” facility. The Suites are a few doors down, a couple minutes’ walk.

Room
Our room was fairly basic, including a balcony, double bed + a single, table/chair area, and a kitchenette with a hot plate, fridge and plates/utensils and TV. The view from the balcony was just other buildings – we’d recommend asking for a room on the front of the hotel overlooking the tree-lined street as it’s a better view. The bed was typical of many hotels in Uruguay, in that it wasn’t really a double, it was two twin beds make up as a single bed. This does give the hotel flexibility as the room can either be three single beds or a double and a single. The room was clean but starting to look a little worn, as was the bathroom. Travelers used to US hotels will find the bathroom and shower cramped, so be prepared for that. If you want to go to the beach, they will provide beach towels. The TV channels were fairly extensive with a few English language channels but we didn’t watch TV very much.

Other facilities
There is a breakfast room with indoor and outdoor seating that also includes two computers for guest use. Wifi coverage in the rooms is good so we never needed to use them. There is also a sundeck on the roof with great views down the coastline and of the ships lining up to come into the port. Seating on the sundeck is limited but we never actually ran into any other guests there. There is also a workout room but it’s pretty limited in terms of machines available.

Staff
The staff was friendly and accommodating. Many spoke at least basic English and the ones that didn’t put up with our (bad) Spanish and were genuinely interested that we had a good stay. They also helped with finding restaurants and calling cabs.

Breakfast
The breakfast was pretty extensive with everything that’s typical at a Uruguayan hotel (various juices, pastries, fruit salad, cold cuts, etc.) as well as extras on a rotating basis such as sausages, eggs, and bacon.

Area
We after spending some time in Montevideo we were really happy that we chose this area. The hotel itself is within 3-4 minutes walk to the Rambla and Pocitos Beach. Within walking distance you also have several fresh fruit stores, convenience stores, mini-marts, money-exchange places, pharmacies, banks and restaurants. We felt safe walking in the neighborhood at night and the beautiful tree-lined streets were fun to explore. Also, if you’ve been to Montevideo before you’ll know that the Rambla can sometimes be hard to cross as a pedestrian. The hotel is fairly close to an intersection with a traffic light – which can make things easier. There are also a couple of bus stops nearby where you can catch buses to the Central and Old City areas.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street would have better views than those on the other side.

The first leg of our flight to Montevideo was cancelled and we were going to arrive a day late. I sent an e-mail to the hotel, asking to change our arrival date. No problem. We ended up leaving a day early. Again, no problem.
The hotel is clean and well-maintained, though showing some signs of wear. Rooms come with small fridge, hotplate, microwave and sink. Our room was in the back so we overlooked a wall. Because there was no cross ventilation, we had to use AC all the time (January) and it blew directly on the bed which was not comfortable.
The hotel is just a couple of blocks from the rambla and beach, in Pocitos, close to Punta Carretas. The breakfast is excellent, with scrambled eggs, ham and cheese, many types of bread and pastry, lots of different fruits and desserts.
I think only one of the desk staff is fluent in English. A couple others speak a bit. It helps if you know some Spanish.
Not cheap but nothing around here is.

We spent 3 nights in Punta Trouville Apartments in August over a holiday weekend for Argentina. We had wanted to stay in the city centre but everywhere was booked out and Punta Trouville was one of few options available. They had a deal on offer at the time of 3 nights for the price of 2 which made it very reasonably priced. The place was full but staff very friendly and helpful. The location out of the city centre turned out for the best for us, it was a nice, quiet, residential location only a block away from The Rambla, a great place to walk/jog along the coast and people watch. The bus into the city centre was only a short walk away (and a 10 minute ride) and there's a large shopping centre close by. The 'apartment' was really a bedsit, a room with a small sitting area and kitchenette along with the bed and separate bathroom, but more spacious and flexible than a hotel. The room was spacious, light, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was a very good buffet and the building has a small gym on the top level, great views of the water while you're pumping iron! Overall, good value for money and a good location.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street are north facing and very sunny and light.

The hotel was a good choice for us to stay in Montevideo for a night. We stayed in a triple room and it was located close to the boardwalk, beach, restaurants and other attractions - a very good location that is convenient and safe. The hotel staff were friendly and efficient and we felt it was really good value - WiFi (worked really well throughout the hotel), parking and breakfast (very extensive spread - both hot and cold foods) included in our rate (paid about $150 for a triple room). It was a very clean and comfortable stay the only improvement would be to update the decor of the rooms (yellow accents, ugly but clean carpeting etc...) but that's not a big deal at all. The kitchenette was perfect for storing snacks but not suitable for cooking (there is a kettle, cutlery and mini fridge).

Hotel is very small, it doesnt look like one from outside. Rooms are ok but bathroom is very very small. Staff wasnt very helpful, asked for some restaurant recomendations and they didnt know any. The Rambla is just one block away, it is a beautiful place to walk or jog. Breakfast is very good though.

Good hotel, a bit old, well located and clean.
Inside the room there is a mini kitchen, ironing board and iron.

The only problem was that I had made a reservation for the Punta Trouville SUITES, getting there they put me in the APART. I really wish I had stayed in the suites, and the didn't do anything to solve the problem, showing that even though I reservation the voucher was right.
