“At the Heart Of The City”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

We stayed here for our 6weeks business trip in Uruguay. Rooms are with ac unit and heaters, with hot and cold shower. They have great staff very courteous and friendly. Wifi is fantastic, all access. But the rooms are small, not very well lighted. comfort room is also small, soap is the only free item you'll get. Breakfast - well you only have very limited option. They got cereals, bread, coffee, and fruits > that's it...
P.S. since it is located in the city you'll hear all the noice outside (sirens, cars, motors. etc..) so if you can't sleep with noice well you better booked elsewhere..

This hotel was a disappointment in our trip over Uruguay. Rooms were kind of small and very dark (excessive use of motion sensors to turn on lights on halls), bathrooms were old (but clean) and common spaces were tiny (hall, desk, breakfast/dinner place was almost the same space). Included beakfast wasn't any great (some fruits and cereals, good coffee, good pastry and little more), dinners were OK (not included in the rate and a little pricey). Charming detail was a piano player at breakfast and at night, playing some tango. Location is good, just one block from main street (18 de Julio). We also request parking from hotel but there wasn't available and we have to keep the car at ACU (about 2 blocks away), free of charge. Service is correct but kind of slow, never in a hurry (¿as Uruguayan lifestyle?).

Room Tip: Avoid rooms over Colonia street. Quite noisy on week days.

Hotel Europa can be a good option if you want to be close to downtown Montevideo. The rooms are old style and bathrooms do need a refit. The breakfast is regular, but you need to ask the waitress for napkins and it seems that she counts how many you are using.

Room Tip: Rooms ended with 6 and 7 face to a wall, which is not bad, since those ended with 1 and 2 face to a...

We stayed here for a week and had shifted from Armon Suites to be closer to Downtown. Staff were very courteous and considerate. One can feel this is a place which has been in business for a long time. Every city will have hotels like these :-) Bad part about the hotel is the space in the rooms. They are small. and I mean really small for the price you pay. The hotel itself being old has lots of issues which we faced like the shower curtain crashing down on its own, an annoying drilling sound from the roof etc. Nice part is the location. You are in the best place for exploring downtown and buses are aplenty which can take you to Pz Independencia,Mercado Puerto, shopping etc. All in all I recommend this hotel if you love being in the nerve centre of the city and are on Business. For a family, I feel this would be too touristy. At least that's the feeling we got in the week we were there.

Room Tip: Try taking the rooms on the right side of the hotel. At least you get a view although it's not t...

Hotel Europe is a budget option if you're traveling on business. It's one of those places that you can't help but think of it's glorious days back in the day, maybe 2 or 3 decades ago.
Nothing much to renew the hotel has been done ever since.
But, stil, beds are comfortable, rooms are relatively big and the shower is OK.
Breakfast is pretty bad.
All and all, it's still an option if you wanna be right downtown and not spend too much.

Room Tip: the room facing the street are bigger and better than the ones facing back. I think there's an e...

Located on a central neighborhood with nothing of interest at all. Room was neat, bed was acceptable, small bathroom (avoid it completely if you are fat). Breakfast only acceptable. But the most ridiculous of all: you cannot have the remote control of the air conditioning set. So, everytime you want to change temperature, you have to call front desk and someone comes to adjust it! The receptionist gently told me that I could call any time, as may times as I want. But, seriously, do it during the night???? Come on!!!!!!

Bad service and rude staff. No one helped with our bags, they just stood there watching. We payed for a parking spot(and extra 9$us) and we were toled that they sold it to someone else. O they only have 5 parking spots under the hotel and it is very hard to get in and out of. Room smelled musty, you can hear other people in their bathrooms...i think. Small bugs in the carpets and in the beds, mosqitos came out of no where. The sliding door was broken and made a horrible screeching noise. Breakfast was all good except the milk tasted sour and there was a big dead bug in the corner of the dinning area. One good thing is in the lobby occasinaly a nice old man comes to play some old songs on an old piano. The elevator haha that just made me feel like i was going back in time and made me feel fat because it is verry small and a bit scary. If you are going to stay here be prepared because you will not be impressed with anything. I lived in uruguay for two years and honestly there are better hotels. Uruguay overall is too expensive.
