“Breakfast to die for!!”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

Very neat and clean rooms. Staff are extremely helpful and very friendly... from the reception desk to the cleaning staff!
The buffet breakfast was UNBELIEVABLE. They had an amazing range of finger foods, jams and pastries.
I would highly recommend staying here.

The “50 or 60 year old elevator” is exactly what makes the London Palace so great. It fits the style of the hotel (dark wood/bronze fittings) and the style of the city – that is old-fashioned and not brash.
Yes, you can hear the guests in the next room (through the bathroom vent) – but it was in castellano – so who cares!
Room was good, comfortable, great bathroom complete with bath.
Breakfast was typical sweet South American – but with eggs, ham & cheese.
Great location – easy walking to all the sights. A little far for the port terminal – to see the Graf Spee relics.
For eating, Bar Hispano opposite ticks all the boxes – great food and atmosphere.
For a little entertainment with the food, then the Mercado de la Abundancia, just up the road, mixes tango with chivitos.
The Mercado del Puerto is just a tourist 'rip off' joint. To get a real feel for lunch, try Los Misiones (esq Misiones & 25 de mayo) – the daily specials are excellent – and good value.

Whilst the hotel is a little dated it's clean and the service is good.

The buffet breakfast is a bit crazy but only because the hotel is so busy.

It was great for a one night stay in Montevideo.

Reception staff were excellent.

The old elevator is surely an atraction to be visited at Montevideo. The Hotel is old 1920 years style, let´s say "vintage". The "underestaffed staff" was nice, but overweighted of work, all of them where running up and down. Breakfast was very rich. The bad side was the connectind doors between rooms, I was able to liste EVERYTHING the other room talked and its sounds. It is near 18 of Julio avenue, had good restaurants nearby and it is at walking distance of Ciudad Vieja and Rambla Sur.

Room Tip: Try first floor to use stairs. The small elevator can be overcrowded very easily

We spent three nights here while in Montevideo. This was one of the few places available to stay since the BID conference was in town. On the plus side: It was clean, safe and quiet. They had good coffee and the standard sweet South American breakfast. On the not so great side: they had an weird old elevator. The toilet seat was a squishy vinyl plastic one. The air conditioner was pretty loud. The suggested restaurant for dinner was awful. The hall lights were on a motion detector so there were times when that was a little creepy. All in all not terrible but we were ready to move on when we left.

We stayed at London for 2 nights. The hotel is clean even though a little dated. The best is the breakfast with variety of food. The location is not bad. Easy access to restaurants and public transportations. For the price, this hotel is pretty good.

My last business trip to Montevideo was decided just 2 days before and I could not get any reservation at the hotels I normally stay . After a brief search I found the London Palace Hotel with very nice price and good location. The hotel is located just two blocks from 18 of July Ave and very close to the old center of Montevideo. From the bus terminal Tres Cruces to the Hotel is just 15 minutes by car and will cost you no more than 6 dollars. From the Carrasco International Airport will take around 30 minutes to get to the hotel.
The hotel is old and present signs of age. The elevator is very old, with small pantograph doors . They give me a room 211 on the second floor and was small with air conditioning and 21" LCD TV . The bathroom was also small with hair dryer and shower relatively good. The towels shows signs of age.
In the elevator was a warning that the service of Wi-Fi was not working properly.I was not able to use because I prefer to use one of three computers that are available at reception at no additional cost.
The breakfast was a good surprise. It is served on the reception floor (buffet style) with good space for people. Tasty breads and options of cheese (two) and also cold cuts . Cereals, yogurts and also gelatin and home made rice pudding. Very uruguayan.
The reception people was very friendly and you can get any information or service with they. Even as car rental or how pick up buses to other cities.
The location of London Palace Hotel is actually very good with easy walking to lot of Montevideo Landmarks such as the old city , mercado do porto or just walking on the 18 of July Avenue with a lot of stores and galleries to explore. Around the hotel you have a lot of options to eat ( meat and no meat restaurants) and one very good is The Fogon just beside the parking hotel (free) with lunch and dinner service and 10% discount for guests from the London Palace Hotel.

Room Tip: Choose the "suites"
