Very good hotel in Montevideo, close to all attractions, good service and breakfast. Rooms for medium size conventions are excellent and comfortable. The restaurant has an international menu as well as local dishes

I recently spent 8 days at the Hotel Embajador while on a business trip to Montevideo. The hotel is nicely located in downtown Montevideo, and the street 18th of July is only 1 block away, and is a major hub with lots of shops and places to eat within easy walking distance. The Wi-fi in my 6th floor room worked very well (good enough to watch Netflix movies), except for a few brief periods of slower bandwidth. I give the hotel good marks for quietness- I had an interior room and even on the weekend had no issues with noise (a serious problem in some hotels in Latin America, particularly on weekends). The hotel lobby is very attractive, and the check-in and check-out was painless. The room was fine, a basic queen bed. There were lots of channels on the TV, a few in English. The room was generally clean, although there was some hair in various places in the bathroom. U.S. travelers will need a two prong Euro (or Brazil) style adapter for 2 or 3 prong U.S. electrical appliances (220 v). I liked the all you can eat breakfast buffet. There was a lot of different fruits and fruit juices, lots of yogurt including drinkable yogurt, various breads, including sweet breads, and cheese (great Uruguayan block cheese too), hard-boiled eggs, toast etc. Not quite as much variety as a typical Brazilian hotel breakfast, but a pretty good selection, in my view. The workout facilities were poor, but the beachfront is very nice and only 8 short blocks away, so I suggest running or walking along the ocean and skipping the workout room with it's very antiquated equipment. Didn't use the pool. There is a small refrigerator (minibar). No microwave in my room, but it had a small safe. All things considered, I had no problems with the hotel. I haven't stayed in any other hotel in Montevideo, however I have traveled throughout other Latin America countries, and I would rate the hotel a 3-star hotel.

The hotel's location is in central Montevideo, which has seen better days. So has this hotel. The staff is very helpful and nice, and that does compensate for some of the hotel's shortcomings. The construction is old and attempts at renovating/upgrading the facilities have been half-hearted at best. And its advertised as a 4 star hotel. No way! More like 2 stars, and only because the staff is professional and very helpful.

Location is fine, as many other hotels in central Montevideo, not far from the old city and port. Service is not good. Don't expect a good service. Breakfast is poor and the attention given to keep the rooms in good shape is precarious. On my very first day I reported an electric plug and the TV control which were not working... three days after, when I left, the situation remained the same.

If this was a two star hotel, I´d give it a good to very good rating. But it comes around as a 4-star, perhaps because it has a gym and a pool and serves a decent breakfast with good coffee.
But the gym consists of three machines in a corner on the roof top, and the pool is a small basin on the roof just large enough to freshen up, but not to swim, on a hot day.
WiFi, as reported elsewhere, was practically useless in my room, and the hotel did not manage to get the wireless modem on the floor fixed in the 5 days I was there. So I did all serious internet connectivity from a laptop in the lobby area where the signal was strong and connectivity adequate (there are also three internet connected PCs in a corner, of which only two seemed to be working).
Staff was friendly, and in particular the doormen were very helpful.
But I saw several other hotels that looked about the same (at least the lobbies) as the Embajador but were billed three star, probably more honestly so.
My room was quite dark, but clean. Waterpressure in the shower/bath was very good and the soap was changed daily (not really necessary, but nice). Beds OK too, but air-condition system very loud and I was happy not having to use it.
The location of the hotel is good, close at least to the downtown area, but not to the promenade/shoreline/beaches.

Room Tip: The hotel has two areas, around two separate lift shafts. I stayed in the rear area, perhaps the dar...

We arrived without a reservation, late at night. Staff was polite. Rooms are OK. Internet did not work on the fist day (we had to use it at the lobby), it was fixed the next day. Breafast was excellent.

We stayed at four hotels during this stay in Montevideo: Klee, Embajador, Ibis and Plaza Fuerte. Embajador had been our best until we experienced Plaza Fuerte.

The hotel is well located in the middle of downtown but does not meet what I expect from 4 star hotels. Bed clothings are old an stained, although I'm sure they are washed. Wireless from the rooms seldom worked and was told every day they were working in it; somewhat better un the lobby. Don't stay here if you need a good Internet connection to get work done.
