“Great location - good views - nice breakfast”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

The hotel has a great view overlooking the river so ask for a room with a river view. The hotel is standard for it's type but was very clean and the room decor was pleasant.

The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the old town as is only a few blocks from the main square and the restaurants that surround it.

The breakfast was excellent, had a large choice of things to eat and staff were kind enough to prepare a small breakfast in the bar on the last day when we had to leave before the official breakfast started.

Despite what some say the wifi was fine a lot better than many hotels and was also free in the rooms ( on saying this i noticed we had a router outside our room so maybe ask for a room at the end of a corridor)

All in all we had a very good stay with nice room and helpful staff would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on higher floors with river view at the end of the corridor, ours was 408

I booked this hotel online and as expected you dont see what you get into until you get there. This hotel is past due for a renovation or at the very least a serious maintenance program. The place looks poorly maintained and could use a deep cleaning and shine treatment. I also tried using the hotel´s WiFi and it was not very good. The hotel´s PCs in the business desks were probably brought in by Christophoro Columbus and a simple task of accessing a web site could not be accomplished. The answer of the hotel´s staff was that the owner knew and didnt care.. go figure why some people decide to enter the hospitality industry with such an attitude...

I stayed here for a few days after having been here many years ago. To me this is the best location in Montevideo, facing the river and just a few blocks from downtown (either business district or old historical center). You just can´t hear any noise from outisde, rooms are spacious and although the shower is a bit old-fashioned the hot water is quick to come and reliable. Free wi-fi works well and breakfast is great with many juice options. Only drawback is CNN is only the Spanish version on its cable TV but otherwise it´s a great hotel to stay. I´ll keep coming back.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room facing the river, the big windows offer you unbeatable scenery.

We had two nights at this hotel. Our room was a nice size, comfortable bed. Bathroom a good size but not pristine, would have thought it would be cleaner, there were hairs in the bathtub. For convenience sake we chose to eat at the hotel restaurant. Dinner time didn't start until 8 pm which is apparently their custom but sure would have appreciated access to at least snack food earlier. Dinner was good but nothing spectacular. Nice view over the water. Our room also had a similar view- we enjoyed watching the rise and the ships with all their lights. Beach is lovely though too early in the season to spend time there.
Breakfast was excellent; plenty of variety and again, nice setting.

Room Tip: Ask for a waterfront view.

This hotel is right on La Rambla, so from the right rooms you can actually see a part of the beach and the inlet/ocean/river. The area is okay, though not the nicest part of Montevideo; you'll need to walk 10 or 15 blocks to find food and shopping. The hotel is loud, however; every noise in the street, the room next door (including toilet flushes), and in the hall penetrates.

The rooms are also old. There is only one outlet you can plug anything in to, and this outlet shuts off when you leave the room, so it's not any good for charging laptops or the like while you're out during the day. I unplugged the desk lamp and used that outlet instead. The rooms do have adequate space, the staff was excellent. There's no shop in the hotel, so if it's not in the mini-bar in the room, you need to walk into the main part of town to get it.

Not tip top, but it's fine for a couple of days, especially if you're going to walking down towards Independence Plaza for meetings and the like.

Room Tip: If you're going to stay this close to the water, get a room that looks out over La Rambla. It...

I was a bit disappointed with the hotel considering its four star rating. The room although spacious, with an amazing view and with a comfortable bed, had a mediocre shower and was barely cleaned. The walls between rooms were paper thin and any noise from next door was loud. The breakfast, on the other hand, was fantastic and fresh eggs were cooked upon request. The staff was attentive and courteous. Overall the hotel is in need of some upgrading.

Room Tip: Choose a room as far away from the elevators as possible, preferebly one by the outside walls.

The hotel has great rooms, very clean and tiddy. The food is great while it's breakfast time, lunch or dinner. One of my complaints is the service which in my opinion was a bit rude and crude. I like being better received and attended to.
