In a land where everyone copies everyone else, it is refreshing to find a cafe that dares to be different. For a start, its painted blue, which sets it apart and makes it easy to find, just around the corner from well known Avenida Brazil on Ellouri.
We walked inside to find a very congenial atmosphere, large tables covered with white cloth, and luxurious padded chairs, built for comfort. We chose to sit at a small adjoining room with a large leather couch and a coffee table. It´s a fabulous space, well set up, even the toilets were well appointed.
We were served by an elderly waiter who made it clear we were wasting his time, despite being the only customers in the whole place. At one stage he had one hand on hip, leaning on a pole with a look of total distain on his face while he waited a full two minutes for us to make our choice.
We ordered Promo 1, which consisted of a toasted cheese sandwich, scones, 2 pieces of toast, generous serving of cream, butter and jam, two cakes of our choice, cappuccinos, orange juice and mineral water for two.
The cost for this was $370 (US$18). There was no IVA or cover charge added later, so our total bill was only $370.... pretty good.
Apart from the poor service, other negatives that brought down the tone of the place was cheap cutlery and crockery, and cheap undersized serviettes.
Will I be back... probably. I can recommend it as a great place to meet people, or just for a comfortable quiet spot to sit, to get out of the bustle of Pocitos for a while, without breaking the bank.. I will try to get back there with my camera next time.
