“Discovered by chance”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

We saw the restaurant marked on a city map and ran there in the rain. What an unexpected pleasure. Old wooden and cozy interior - it was founded in 1877 - bustling with an animated lunch crowd and with friendly and efficient servers. We had to wait a little at the bar, which gave us a chance to sample a local dark beer, Mastra Negra, and then we were seated with no fuss. Vegetarians, we ordered Risotto with vegetables served in a crisp cheese basket, and Eggplant Gnocchi, both excellent. Dessert was a fabulous apple tart covered with coarsely chopped almonds and served with ice-cream. The coffee was the best we've had in Montevideo. The restaurant has free internet. Do go.

“Superb sandwiches”
Reviewed December 27, 2011

Cafe Brasilero is the oldest cafe in Montevideo and is oozing with old-world charm. We visited and were lucky enough to get a window seat (there are only two!) next to the street.

We ordered a Sandwiche Brasilero (a simple sandwich of salami, cheese and and tomato toasted on country bread and topped with arugula) and were blown away by it. The service was great and the atmosphere was unique and it was good value for money.

I highly recommend this place for a nice, simple, delicious lunch.

“Great Cafe - don't miss”
Reviewed November 30, 2011

The Cafe Brasilero is located in the old town of Montevideo and is absolutely great. If you visit Montevideo and the old town you should stop there and have a cafe together with a sandwich or a desert. The cafe itself is very old and traditional and really beautiful. They have many magazines there in almost all languages so that you can enjoy a magazine while drinking their wonderful cafe. Best cafe in town! And if you like sweets you should have the apple tarte with vanilla ice-cream (tarta de manzana) - it is wonderful. And they have really reasonable prices! So go there, you won't regret. (by the way: they have free wifi)
