We had a wonderful 3 hour walking tour of the old city in Montevideo with Emiliano , a university history major. My husband and I are very interested in architecture, local politics and culture and he tailored the tour to fit our interests. Emiliano was enthusiastic, very knowledgeable and had an excellent command of English. In the short time we had together, he imparted a true flavour of Uruguyan culture. He met us as promised just outside the port gates and we started from there. As we wanted to spend the rest of the day exploring the city by ourselves, he adapted the route so as to leave us in a main plaza as opposed to back at the port. We highly recommend Cultura Cercana.

Our cruise took us to Punta del Este and Montevideo in Uruguay. We have day stop at these two beautiful places. Shalako was our guide assigned by Cultura Cercana - a young, cheerful and knowledgeable man. As usual, we were brought to the various places of interest and we were happy with the services provided by the guide who ensure that we see as much as possible and enjoy the day. The only disappointment was the van that was arranged for us in Punta del Este. It was old and run down. We should have gotten a better one since we paid a very high price for it. Thanks to Cultura Cercana for the professional services.

We had around 8 hours off the cruise boat for our shore excursion. Silvia at Cultura Cercana helped put together a day tour of Montevideo and 2 other day tours (Puerto Madryn and Ushuaia)
Every single tour we were one of the first groups met by our guide and driver, which is always a slight worry when getting off a boat in a foreign place hoping your guide will be there. These guys scored 10/10 for punctuality! Our guide, Shalako, met us with the driver and the best tour van I think we have ever had (comfy & spacious + wifi!) Shalako was not only great to hang out with for the day, but extremely knowledgable, and passionate about his country. I believe he was an anthropology student and he really knew what he was talking about. As well as showing us the markets, churches, streets, stadium, and other sites, he linked everything with an in depth understanding of history and conversation about all things Uraguay. We we shown so much of the city for the short time we had and still fit in a great lunch with our guide and driver, which in itself was an insight into the food culture (oh my god do these guys like to eat meat!!) All our questions and requests were totally catered for and we returned to the cruise that afternoon extremely impressed. in comparison to other excursions on offer, this one ticked all boxes in regards to quality of guide, van, tour content, price, and overall service. 10/10 all round! This would be suitable for all demographics. We were travelling with family but these guys know how to look after you!

Thanks again Shalako - we had a great day! All the best!

We recently visited Buenos Aires and booked a day trip to Colonia thru Fabian, our fabulous Cultura cercana rep. Fabian took great care of us. He provided airport transfers and our tour of Buenos Aires. He purchased our ferry tickets for Colonia, picked us up at our hotel and delivered us to the ferry terminal and provided us with all the information we needed. We were met in Colonia by our guide Bruno. He was terrific. He toured us around the quaint old town section in a nice warm car. Bruno is very knowledgable about Uruguay and he attends the Univerisity of Montevideo. My son, who studies Latin American history at the UofA grad school, and Bruno had a lot to discuss. It was a very interesting and informative tour. We really enjoyed our day. You will not go wrong with Cultura Cercana and you should not miss Colonia. We feel like we have new friends in South America. We miss Bruno and Fabian already.

I strongly recommend Cultura Cercana,in particular Bruno, if you are game to take a personalized, private tour with a highly knowledgeable, warm, delightfully funny guide. I was staying in Colonia and caught a bus to Montevideo for a day trip, where Bruno met me at the Tres Cruces terminal. For a whirlwind tour of MV, the pace was almost leisurely. Bruno tailored this tour to suit my personal interests in Uruguay's history, military history, football, and (yes, opera houses!). Thanks to Bruno, I enjoyed seeing the anchor and rangefinder of the Graf Spree, the downtown market and waterfront, the Teatro Solis (where Bruno cajoled staff into providing us with a private tour of its plush red seats & brightly lit interior), and many memorials to the leaders in the struggle for political independence. What more can I say? Bruno was pure gold--charming, full of amusing anecdotes, and briskly efficient. It was like meeting a old friend for an afternoon walk through the historic centre of Montevideo!
