It was clean, safe and very enjoyable to walk at all the different points of I the rambla. It's HUGE. Good for all ages and those with special needs. We felt very safe at different hours in the day.
Just very difficult to cross the road, cause very few crosswalks, so u have to jaywalk and the cars have no mercy

When you go there, it's not just the river and the horizon, but also all those people walking, drinking Mate, fishing, making some BBQ and talking of course! I consider it's the best place in the city, when someone want to see what people from uruguay do when they have free time.
I recommend to rent a bicycle and to go all the way long of La Rambla. Or maybe if you want to try mate, it's also a good option to ask for it to someone from the place. Im positive all those people are really kind, and mate is a good excuse to start a good conversation!

If you like to exercise this is the place to do it in Montevideo. the Rambla is the road the follows the edge of the Rio Plata fro the old town down towards Poscitos. It is a wide path of 5 -7 metres designed for those who like to walk and exercise along the waters edge.

The rambla is what is special about Montevideo. The joke is that Montevideo has three really great things: one is the rambla and the other two no one knows what they are.
