“Cannot recommend this hostel, find somewhere else”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

Cannot say we enjoyed our stay here. We only had 2 nights in Montevideo and our first night we got very little sleep as there were springs sticking up all over our mattress and the noise from the street outside made sure we got very little sleep (room 2). The next day we asked could we change and they gave us room 3, which still was right beside the street and the shower barely worked. The staff were reasonably helpful but we got the feeling they couldn´t really be bothered because it was low season. I´d imagine most hostels would be better than this and if we found it noisy in low season, I can´t imagine how loud it gets if there´s parties on in busy season. THe streets around the hostel are also quite dodgy at night. Don´t stay here.

Room Tip: Get a room that doesn´t face the street and if they give you rooms 2 or 3 say no straight away.

Stayed at the hostel for three nights, on a private double bed room. The first impression entrering the room was a mouldy smell, because the room had no window. Other than that, it was a nice stay. The beds are confrotable and the room is clean. The breakfast is fairly good, with fruits, cereals, bread and a special local touch, dulce de leche. The double bed rooms have windows and don´t smell mouldy, so they are a better pick.

Room Tip: The double bed private ensuite rooms are the only ones with a window

Our first room smelled a bit funny, and when my husband sat on the bed, it broke! The staff were very helpful and helped us to change rooms - they were apologetic which made us wonder if they knew there was a problem with the bed.
We were concerned there would be problems with noise as all the rooms open onto the open courtyard but we didn't hear anything once in bed.
The breakfast was good, nice selection.
Staff were helpful and booked our next hostel for us. There was a powercut one morning for a couple of hours and they didn't seem bothered at all, we wonder if this is quite regular.

The staff at the hostel are really friendly. Nevertheless, the hostel is located in a quite noisy street. If your room faces the street, be ready not to sleep after 7am. Further, the breakfast is poor and the rooms is quite humidy and mold. The smell is not really welcoming.

I booked this hostel because it was really well ranked on tripadvisor. But this was a big mistake. I've booked a twin room with private bathroom. I knew that it was suppose to be tiny and without any window. But, I didn't knew that it was smelling moisture and mold. And actually, it is really hard to ventilate the room. The only way to have fresh air, is to open a tiny window above the door. But the room is right in front of the main hostel entrance. So if you do so, you will be wakeup each time somebody enter in the hostel.

For the rest : people at the frontdesk where friendly, and the breakfast was nice. Also, it is located near the city center. But the dormitories seems to have the same problem that the twin room (no window and no ventilation).

Room Tip: Do not get the twin room with private bathroom. Be sure to have a room with a window!
