....but not especially boutique. The standard room we booked was small and had a window facing in to the interior stairwell. So we opted for a superior double on arrival, and had a much improved spacious room with a nice view of the pool. The pool area itself felt a bit unloved, but has nice views of the neighbouring roof tops and the impressive buildings of the old port. The staff were extremely friendly. The neighbourhood is working class, but up and coming, and there are a couple of nice spots to eat at the mercado del puerto. If I was to return to the city I would probably opt for something more central like the Radisson slap bang on Plaza de la Independencia, where you feel closer to the heart of the city.

Room Tip: Room opposite pool was spacious and had nice view of pool area.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to share your opinion with us and with all the people of TipAdvisor. We thank you also that you have highlighted the friendliness of our staff and the good things you find in our Don Boutique Hotel Montevideo.

Old City, where we are located, is the port, banking and cultural center par excellence, because here the city of Montevideo was born. There are hotels for all tastes and maybe you prefer a more central place to stay, anyway we will be willing to receive you again and make you renew the Don experience.

Hopefully we will have the pleasure of your visit anytime soon

Best regards

stayed for 2 nights in a superior double room. Location in ciudad vieja is not convenient at night as there are only the port market restaurants around. room very ambitiously equipped with wash basin integrated in room. separate toilet and shower nice but petit- the room itself dark and tiny. roomservice not existent. pool attendance not existent, Roof bar closed. breakfast ok but for every new cup of coffee you've to beg as the waiter doesn't realize guest needs. The Hotel seems to be an investment of the Palenque Restaurant owners across the street. Travelling as two males we encountered one blanket only on the bed ( inbetween queen and king size ). As we didn' t want to share the night under one linen sheet we asked for an adequate preparation of the bed. maid ( or daughter/nice, who knows ?) brought 2 woolen blankets and commented that she only speaks spanish and we should help ouselves. At a price of 200 USD per night this occured a bit strange to us.

Room Tip: the only rooms with 2 beds are the standard rooms, but they are facing towards a wall in 1st./2nd. a...

Dear Matt,

On behalf of the entire team of Don Boutique Hotel Montevideo we want to apologize for, in your opinion, have had a bad stay. We take this opportunity to clarify some things that are working today that includes room service, assistance in the pool and the roof. On the other hand, we opened a dining place where breakfast is served, and guest service is present throughout the breakfast.

From 2013 until now, many things have changed both within the hotel and the surrounding area. Today Old Town is one of the most important tourist and cultural areas of Montevideo besides being very safe, all thanks to the recovery plan of the area carried out by the National government and local authorities, who are responsible for reforms roads, infrastructure and security (including surveillance and police patrols 24 hours, security cameras at every corner with constant monitoring of them)

It's been 3 years since your visit to our DBH, maybe you should visit us again and experience the changes and improvements implemented in both the hotel and the old town. With this in mind we hope you come back soon.

When we arrived, a welcome drink of Uruguayan drink medio y medio. And the warm friendly service continued from there. Most staff spoke some or good english.

Located in the port area of Ciudad Viejas old city, it is busy by day and quiet by night. BUT, there are still several restaurants a very short and safe walk for dinner, so you don't have to taxi. And of course, daytime busy as the entrance to Mercado is literally right across the pedestrian walk from the hotel front door!

I loved walking this old city section, you can walk the ramblas (river-front) or enjoy the old, old architecture of the neighborhood. It's maybe 13-15 blocks to Plaza Independcia, where the new city starts. In old city, not so many trees, but new city has parks and beautiful tree-lined streets, still older architecture. And then neighborhoods further afar can be wealthier and/or more western looking.

The hotel is contemporary style, which is nice to look at. Our bed was very comfortable (they claim queen, but it was larger, between king-queen). My only complaint is the lighting. Trendy dim yes, practical no. Hard to read in bed or anywhere, as single spotlight high in ceiling and not in the right place. Forget about seeing your face to put on makeup, just shadows.

Breakfast...this was our 4th stop on vacation route, and it was the first real breakfast in South America. Service, eggs made to order, special requests, the amazing fruit tray and bread tray and a little meat if you'd like. Fresh orange juice, fancy coffee. We ate in the pleasant lobby area breakfast room, but they were taking trays upstairs too.

Free WiFi in the room, always on, always fast.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review. Please know that we value and care about our guests, and wish for everyone to enjoy a personalized experience. We appreciate your comments of the staff and the work we do in trying to please every need of our guests. We hope your visit to Montevideo was enjoyable, and that we might have another opportunity to serve you in the future.

It’s really good that you loved to walk the Old City because like you said, this is really nice looking and we have near to the hotel too pretty places to spend the time flies when you really appreciate.

We are glad to for your enjoying your especial five stars breakfast and that you liked all of it. Sadly to hear that the lights was a like bad, It would have been nice to know in due time and maybe we could have given a table lamp for reading and for your comfort.

On the other hand, you should know that in the beginning of this year we opened the new breakfast room, more comfortable and private. Like always, we are looking forward to give our guests the best we can.

Best regards

Love, love this place. Can I pick it up and put it in buenos aires? Affordable super clean. Friendly staff. The city was totally empty but this place made my stay worth it. The port is right across the street If you are taking a boat to BUE. The pool looked good, but was cold. And it was cold outside.

I found that sometimes when travelling that "boutique" just means "small" or "b&b". This is definitely boutique - and similar in style to the modern trendy type of outfits at Morgan hotels chains. The pros are very good service, flexible with the breakfast (food allergies), helpful front desk ( they got me some medicine from a pharmacy in less than half an hour), lovely roof top pool, attention to detail (welcome drinks on arrival, intro map and info). Cons are that the rooms are on the small side and the area. It's not the safest as two taxi drivers told us but to be honest the taxis are cheap and the hotels will call them for you. About £5-£8 to get to the beach, tres cruces bus terminal. We went to punta del este which is worth a day trip as there isn't a massive amount to do in montevideo (about £7, 2.5 hours, leaves from tres cruces frequently, get a reserved ticket on the day).

Dear Fullham,

We really apreciated your words. It's always nice to read that a guest have had good time in our Don Boutique Hotel Montevideo.

We take the time to tell you that, thanks to the contribution of Local Government and the National Government, now The Old Town is in recovery process, and it is already possible to say that it is a safe area. Now we have surveillance cameras that are monitored 24 hours a day and constant police patrol. That with respect to the area where we are located.

Finally and with respect to our rooms, we would like to tell that we have different sizes to offer you when you decide to visit us again. We hope that with this new information we can convince you to return soon.

Get you a friendly greeting on behalf of all the staff of DBH.

A great room, service, really friendly people and not because they have to, amazing breakfast made when you sit at the table just for you and an atmosphere that makes you want to spend time in the hotel, even when you are someone like me that usually uses them for sleep.

Dear guest,

We kindly thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your stay at our Don Boutique Hotel Montevideo. As you very well said, the Mercado del Puerto area has the most amazing and traditional places to eat and we are ideally located to make the most of that experience. Once you couple our great location with all the features of our property, like the rooftop area and swimming pool overlooking the bay, the Don is the place to be.
We look forward you your next visit and we thank you once again for sharing your positive experience with the TripAdvisor community and us.
