Extremely friendly staff and modern/clean hotel. The Don is located in the old city which, at night, can die down (hotel staff recommends being careful in old city at night). But it is an excellent location for day and early evening. Rooms were clean and the superior room was spacious. Included breakfast was quite good and plenty of dinner choices across the street. Could not have asked for better service.

Dear Richard

We sincerely appreciate the time you used to share your opinion with the community TripAdvisor. We are pleased to inform you that from the old city has changed very much.

The national and local government began a process of reconstruction throughout the city of Montevideo, beginning with the historic area of the city, The Old City. Now, we have new places to visit, more restaurants for eat, and, in security matter, cameras monitored 24 hours a day and constant police patrols, so we have become one of the safest capitals in Latin America.

From all staff of Don Boutique Hotel Montevideo, thank you very much, and we would like to extend the invitation to revive the Don experience and all it has to offer the new old town.

Best regards,

Very nice hotel with very nice rooms. Service from staff was excellent and could not have been more professional and friendly.
In my opinion the location is also alright. The Mercado is just across the street, which makes for some shopping and a lot of food. You will have to take a taxi at night, but these are rather inexpensive. And unless you want to eat in your hotel, you will need to take a cab from wherever you are staying. Don't kid yourself - you won't be walking around most parts of this beautiful city at night. So stay in this little gem and enjoy the atmosphere and the nice service.

Dear Guest

We sincerely appreciate you have chosen our Don Boutique Hotel and also have the time to share your opinion with the community TripAdvisor. We are pleased to tell that from the date you stayed at our facilities so far, the old city has changed exponentially.

The national government and the municipal government began, about 3 years ago, a process of reconstruction throughout the city of Montevideo, beginning with the historic area of the city. Now, besides arrangements facades and opening different kinds of places, we have security cameras monitored 24 hours a day and constant police patrols, so we have become one of the safest capitals in Latin America.

The website show "Don" is an exclusive boutique hotel with art deco architecture and contemporary interiors. Photos online show relatively spacious for a boutique hotel but the acutal size is very small. In fact we did not have enough room to open our suitcases. It's just too small even for an urbanite living in NYC. While the rooms are tastefully decorated with chocolate hardwood floors, and black and white décor, because of its size, its hard to enjoy staying in that cell. Furthermore, there were no basic amenities: kleenex tissues, wash clothes, face towels, cups, etc...

Don Hotel Boutique is situated in front of Del Puerto Market, in the "ghetto", definitely not ready for primetime. Unfortunately, one of our friends was mugged returning home from one of the restaurants they recommended. As a street smart NYer, we know how to avoid such situations but I guess we had let our guards downs a bit, because we were on vacation-mode. When we reported the incident, the Don staff simply told us that there was nothing they can do. "That's our government". When asked about their responsibility and accountability, their respond was "would you like to file a report at the police station", and offer to escort us there. We were terribly diasppointed with the lack empathy and accountability from the staff including managers and security. So in conclusion, TRAVEL AT YOUR OWN RISK. Until the police and hotel staff ensures better security and safety, just SKIP THIS ONE.

Room Tip: Some rooms had buzzing electrically noise, sounds like a generator..

Dear Guest,

First we deeply regret having had to live such an unpleasant experience during your stay in Montevideo, but on the other hand, we are pleased to inform you that today the story is different. National and local government has been developing a project to recover the capital, starting with the Old Town. Now in every corner there is a camera monitored 24 hours a day, every hour police patrols and immediate response through 911, which allows us, today, to be in top 3 of the safest capitals in Latin America.

Changes for better occur, occurred in New York and other cities around the world and Montevideo is no exception. For this reason, and despite the experience you lived, you're welcome to come back and see for yourself the changes that have taken place and will continue occurring in the Old City.

Kind Regards,

As THE reviews say; this is a good hotel! We loved our stay. Warm welcome with medio y medio, perfect breakfast, perfect coffee, nice decor, helpfull and friendly staff en right in front of the old market.
Only down side is the view in a standardroom: no view, a wall at 2 meters. Further we had to pay half a day if we wanted to check out 1 hour later.

The Don Boutique Hotel is a welcome respite for weary travelers coming off the BuqueBus! The property is exquisite-clean and well-staffed with customer-centric employees.

The rooms have a modern flare to them that makes you think "hip, cool" almost immediately. The rooftop pool is a treat, but the real treat is the option of having your free breakfast poolside!

Fiorella went above and beyond to help us secure rental bikes, scouring the city for 6 bikes for us to use. That's customer service!
