“Good wine and food in Ciudad Vieja”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

The place has a big choice of Uruguayan wines. We`ve had an excellent one, Proprium Cabernet Sauvignon, from Bodega Filgueira. The menu has a few choices, but they are good. Fare prices.

“Very good experience”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

It was four of us, we had 3 weekly menus (which included 3 choices each of appetizer, entree and dessert), 1 main course, 3 refreshments, 5 coffes and 2 bottles of wine, plus 10% tip came to USD37/person. The food was quite enjoyable, the ambience very nice and service was impeccable (waitress was very attentive, knowledgeable and fast). It was a good opportunity to get exposed to Uruguayan wine and their Tannat wine strain. Definetely a place to recommend. Beware that the neighborhood is not the best, so at night, walking in direction to the port could be dangerous.

“Super food and wine”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

A showcase for good Uruguyan food as well as wines and only a couple of hundred metres from Plaza Independencia. A big thank you to tripadvisor and previous reviewers for commenting on this place as we would never have found it and it has been a highlight of our time in Montevideo.

It was a quiet evening so we had plenty of help from the staff in choosing appropriate courses and wine. We started with some of the best empanadas we have had and I followed with a local casserole type dish while my partner had a lasagne. Both dishes were divine and, while sufficient to satisfy, we did not feel like we were going to explode as we have at a number of other establishments in Uruguay. This was topped with a bottle of award winning Tannat which compares to really good wines from anywhere else in he world.

A superb evening is the only way to describe the event (and surprisingly inexpensive).

“Not to miss!”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Great place for lunch and wine tasting. Have several wines from several Uruguayan wineries. Simple, friendly and casual atmospehere. Nice music. (Frank SInatra). Owner Juan -young, nice, attentive, english speaker- will welcome you and introduce the menu and wine tasting options. I went there with a middle aged couple and the adorable 83 yr old god-mother, all from NYC. We tried different menu options ( Flight wine tasting, entrecot, salads, pasta, vegetarian). Everything was perfect. This is a place where is hard to leave once you are done through your meal! Great service, great value.

staff friendly and professional at the same time. excellent wine, top quality food for low price: we tried alta gracia tannat wine, medallones de entrecotte, ensalada de rucola y peras, helado de vino sobre turron. we'd like coming back to montevideo so we could come back to corchos bistro.
