It certainly deserves a visit. A very traditional place that a few years ago moved from it's original smaller and more modest location to a beautiful building in front of Plaza Matriz, just across the Cathedral and the Cabildo, the Spanish colonial government location of 18th century Montevideo. It's not unusual at all to see well known businessmen or politicians having lunch at La Corte. The menu and food are a bit above average and so are the prices. Young waiters and waitresses with an I-don't-care attitude but happy to talk to customers about anything as if they were old friends. Don't get it wrong, that's the Uruguayan way and deeply rooted in the country's culture. Basically, it's what you'll get at any or at least most hotels and restaurants in Montevideo.

I go once a month for lunch during weekdays...it is a good choice, the cava is a nice place to eat on the basement. The serive is very good. Price is very affordable.

All the guides talk about how great the Mercado der Puerto is in Montevideo. Indeed, the display of parilla prepared foods is impressive, but the hustle of the vendors is almost intolerable-- touts pushing platters of raw meat cuts in your face every few feet , more touts poking cards and shop flyers at you is finally exhausting and made us want to flee, which we did. If you want a good lunch, without the hassle and hustle, try La Corte on Plaza Matriz. This place is full of locals, business people and tourists, and is packed with customers which must attest to the quality of the food offered there. We had the lunch special and it was not only good tasting, but resonably priced and the service was excellent. Virginia Maneiro (Vicky) our waitress, was friendly, efficient and helped us (in pretty good English) make a few substitutions to our meal in addition to offering suggestions. We could not have been more pleased with her service and the quality of the restaurant. A more elegant dinner is served in the evening and La Corte has a very large wine cellar of over 300 different wines.

La Corte has a nice atmosphere - nice and simpatic girls serving - but food is really bad quality.
