This location is ideal for getting acclimated to the latitude but it would take more than an overnight to do that. The accommodations were a bit monastic and very basic. A space heater did provide heat but without it there would have been a notable frigid environment. Hot water in the showers was available if you didn't want to shower immediately upon arising. Food was common fare and not at all noteworthy or exceptional.
Nestled in the sacred valley, this hotel is a tranquil oasis with large lawns & gardens and awesome views of the surrounding mountains. This was our first stop at high altitude so it was a beautiful place to relax and acclimate. The hotel is conveniently located on the main road and a short motor-taxi ride to the train station or central Urubamba for shopping or eats. Also, it is only a scenic hour drive to the Inkan sites of Moray and Salineras (both definitely worth visiting) and a 30 minute drive to Ollantaytambo (a must see). Although the hotel grounds and location are superb, the service at San Augustin Hotel needs improvement. The food was tasty but the restaurant is woefully understaffed with long waits for breakfast buffet items and dinner. Also, don't ask for transportation arrangements at the front desk as their prices are higher than you'll get on the street. I suspect the hotel takes a cut.
We stayed here for a couple of nights while passing through the Sacred Valley. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were comfortable & quiet. We had a lovely view of the Andes from our room. There was free WIFI in the room. The buffet breakfast that was included in the price was very nice. A good variety of foods with plenty to eat. We didn't use the space heater provided in the room. The hotel had a safe at the front desk for valuables. There was a gift shop in the lobby. The grounds were beautiful. There was a small pool, but it was to cool to enjoy it.
We stayed here 2 nights on a Gate 1 Tour while traveling through the Sacred Valley. Upon first glance, the hotel doesn't look like much, but when you enter the lobby, you are taken away to a whole different place. The staff was attentive, the rooms good sized and well outfitted, but the hotel grounds are the real attraction. A lovely fountain in the back, set amongst flowers and a pool. A local woman set up her weaving loom by the deck and was open to photo taking and answering questions. A nice breakfast was included each day in our package, and all the coca tea you could drink (and we drank a lot!). To get into town, grab a tuk-tuk motorcycle thingie in front of the hotel for $1.50 each way.
This is a clean basic hotel. Location is good to get used to the altitude. The start or end of the Inca Trail hike. Restaurant on sure. Food is good but a tad more expensive. Not all rooms have the same things....no heating, but a little space heater provided.
While at the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Urubamba, we stayed at the San Agustin Hotel Urubamba for two nights. The hotel is a hacienda style, two storey hotel. The rooms are adequate, the staff are quite friendly, and the grounds are well managed and maintained. The small outdoor swimming pool is meticulously clean and looked enticing, but it was quite cold to try it out. There is free Internet at the lobby. The buffet breakfast was quite good.
From the hotel, one can get to Pisac and Ollantaytambo using locally arranged transportation. Tours fo the Maras Salt Terraces and Moray Agricultural Terraces can be made with prearranged tours. Overall, this establishment provides very good accomodation considering its location.
