Perfect place between Cusco and Machu Picchu. Get train from Ollantaytambo so it's cheaper. Clean and cool bathrooms. Good food and great service. Simple but nice..

We stayed two nights at San Augustin in Urubamba and did enjoy the hotel for the most part. Its on a very busy road and not close to very much, the walk into the main part of town is fairly far, especially if you are looking to go in the evening, when its dark, it would be very dangerous as there are no sidewalks. The hotel is very well kept, clean for the most part (what other reviewers have said about bugs in the bathrooms are true, although its nothing too terrible and when you are in a forest area I guess you can expect a bit of bug life to be present...it was a little gross sometimes). The first night we were there it was SO cold and they do not have heaters in the rooms, only radiant portable heaters that turn off after a few minutes so it was not super comfortable. Also the water was shut off for several hours, so we could not take showers or brush our teeth the first night we were there which was frustrating. The hotel has a decent bar (bar staff and restaurant staff were great!) with reasonable prices and the food at the restaurant was pretty good (I would reccommend the quinoa pasta). For breakfast they had a pretty decent spread of food, however the toaster did not work for the bread, so if you wanted warmed bread, the microwave it was! The grounds of the hotel are very pretty, it was just hard to get past the poor location and the fact that our whole first day we were without water. All in all I would recommend staying here, but make sure to bring extra pairs of socks and a sweatshirt for the cold nights!

We stayed at the Hotel San Agustin in Urubamba for two nights in May 2011 as part of an OAT tour. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

The front of this one- to two-story hotel faces the sole road that runs through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, from Pisac (near Cusco) west to Ollantaytambo (where one catches the train to Machu Picchu). This front part of the building houses the well-appointed reception area and lobby. Our rooms were in a separate wing which formed a manicured courtyard, well behind the entrance building, well away from any road noise. (Actually, the road did not seem that heavily traveled.) The rooms were of fair size and quite comfortable. The receptionists were friendly and polite, and spoke English perfectly. There seemed always to be a supply of coca tea in the lobby, which we drank freely to guard against altitude sickness. (Maybe that tea deserves part of the credit for the fact that no-one in our tour group had a problem with altitude sickness.) There are two computers available in the lobby for Internet access (although you’ll have to ask the receptionist to show you how to form the “@” symbol for e-mails – there’s no “@” key on Spanish keyboards). The breakfast buffet was OK, typical of the breakfast bars that we encountered elsewhere in Peru. If I had to mention a negative about this hotel, it would be that the traditional scrambled eggs and the mini-hot-dog “sausages” on the breakfast bar were a bit cool, and the eggs runny.

Since the hotel is in the Sacred Valley of the Urubamba River, the vistas of the surrounding mountains are tremendous. If one leaves the hotel, one can experience the Andean culture of the local residents.

My friends and I stayed here as part of our Gate 1 tour or Peru. Don't be fooled by this dusty town seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The hotel is beautiful with gorgeous picturesque grounds, clean and comfortable rooms. My friend's room even had a little balcony. Speaking only for myself, I liked this hotel the best out of all the hotels we stayed. Hotel is located within walking distance to the "downtown" area where my friends and I had walked to for dinner. Use caution walking at night only because walking back to the hotel there is minimal to no lighting or sidewalks but not once did I feel unsafe in neighborhood...but that doesn't mean let your guard down either even though people we encountered along the way were nice or paid no attention to us. The restaurant in the hotel is blah and virtually empty, however the menu has potential. Restaurant staff were friendly. They have a small bar too. Evidently our bathroom during the night is a place little bugs go to die and in the morning was a little cemetery for tiny bugs on the window sill but they were all gone when we returned to the room. The cleaning crew did a great job keeping the place tidy! This hotel also has a swimming pool which unfortunately I didn't use :/ They also have a pool table though missing balls and broken cues. It got a little chilly at night but not cold enough for me (in November) to ask for extra blankets or a heater. There were a few ladies selling goods outside of the hotel and I scored a cute bag at an easily negotiated price which became useful throughout my trip (and even back home!) Overall, great, clean hotel in a good middle point between Cusco and Machu Picchu.

A pleasant surprise with welcoming staff. Initially, the room I was assigned had a foul odor of sewage which could not be tolerated. The room was also looking over a dump and right by the main road with plenty of traffic noise. After a change of room towards the inner part of the hotel, the room was spacious and fresh smelling. Nice roomy bathroom and HOT water! Lighting was dim, so it was difficult to read at night. A space heater was provided for cool nights. The courtyard was beautiful with a fountain and a native woman weaving throughout all day. A sauna was available for a fee. Dinner and breakfasts were adequate. Internet was accessible in the lobby, but again, lighting was dim and keyboard hard to see.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road at inner parts of the hotel

We arrived mid morning and had no problem checking in. Pleasantly surprised with the room and the beautifully manicured gardens. The outside appearance doesn't do the inside justice. The service was very good, the food was average. I try to get hotels with breakfast buffet included to keep you going through the better portion of the day. Nelly at the desk was outstanding. My wife became ill while we were there (not due to the hotel, but still, beware the fried "weiners" )and we had a doctor to our door withing half and hour, taken to the clinic and returned in time for our Mapi trip. The safety deposit is at the front desk and you must leave your things with the staff. We just carried what we needed and left the rest locked in our luggage. A taxi to the Pisac market was 65 soles whereas a bus returning cost us 2.5 soles, so depending on how adventurous you feel. The restaurant was so so and there were a couple of restaurants just up the road that we couldn't try due to illness. It was about 30 - 40 min from the hotel through a very poor area, but that's part of the experience, no? We also stored our luggage here while going to Mapi and picked it up on the way back, no charge. Comfortable stay. King size bed. Get water directly across the street for 1 sol as opposted to 6 at the hotel. There was a pool that was well maintained but it was rather cool to use it.

Room Tip: Water across the street for 1 sol instead of 6 at the hotel.

I stayed at the San Agustin Urubamba Hotel with my spouse and brother and his wife as part of a Gate 1 tour of Peru in August, 2011. The hotel is located in a fairly unattractive and dreary town of Urubamba, Peru. The check in process was very slow and confusing and the hotel was overwhelmed with the group who checkied in. No one was available to take you to your room (the room locations were very confusing.) The room itself was adequate, I did notice several dead bugs on the bathroom window sill which had obviously been there a long time. We were very upset that on two occasions we found our room door left wide open with no cleaning personnel in sight. One day we found the door open and the room only half cleaned very late in the afteroon. The buffet breakfast was good and contained a great variiety of options. We did not eat at the hotel for other meals. The hotel cotained a small bar which we didn't use by seemed well received by the other travelers. The swimming pool was open and available, but was freezing cold as it was winter time in Peru at the time of our visit. There were two computers for internet use which worked well. Overall an average hotel but there is not a great variety of places to stay in Urubamba, Peru. The city itself was part of a tour of the Sacred Valley of Peru, definately worth a visit for its beautiful scenery and cultural attractions.
