My wife and I arrived with our driver from Pisac in mid-afternoon, June 2012, after having explored the Pisac, Moray and Salinas ruins in the Sacred Valley. We were greeted by Chalo’s (the manager’s) stepson amidst a beautiful, rustic lodge and well designed cabins nestled in the hills above Urubamba, complete with a duck pond and lavish landscaping using indigenous flora. In my hurry to get our friendly driver on his way home I put our traveling case with most of our credit cards, airline tickets, passports, cash and tickets/train passes to Machu Picchu on top of the cab, paid the driver and then watched as he drove away. For almost any traveler this most clever of moves would have been a premature and very sad ending to what was shaping up to be a great trip. Enter Chalo. Within three hours, with his inestimable help and language skills, we had called the US State Department, filed a police report, cancelled our credit cards, arranged for US funds to be wired the next day to Chalo’s bank and replaced all of our transfers and tickets to Machu Picchu. Chalo simply refused to let our misfortune ruin a great trip! In all of our extensive travels this was truly a singular experience. We wish that we had planned a few more days stay at Las Chullupas not only to explore the Urubamba area more fully but also to get to know Chalo and his family better. We had a great experience!

Las Chullpas is up on the mountain away from town but oh so wonderful! We found no reason to leave except to venture out hiking. The rooms are comfortable but with a rustic feel to them. They have used some clever ideas in the rooms and around the grounds that just put a smile on your face. See what they've done recycling bottles. They have wonderfully hot, hot showers! There are beautiful garden areas to sit in and enjoy a cup of coca tea. Also herb gardens all around.
Chalo was especially helpful in helping us acclimate to the altitude both with recommendations on hikes in the area before we did the Inca Trail, and food he prepared that helped our stomachs. We were never sick! The breakfast that is included is hearty, healthy and delicious. He uses all natural herbs and local produce. We also enjoyed 2 dinners he prepared that also were just wonderful.
Moto cars zip you up and down the hill if you desire to go to town. Santino made a great recommendation to go to the restaurant, El Huacatay, which was wonderful.
Make sure you ask them to arrange pick up at the airport in Cusco if you are heading there first. We didn't know they would do that and ended up with a nightmarish taxi ride.

Such a nice place !
We went with our two kids and we really loved this paradise. small houses made with natural materials in a beautiful garden. Local and very good food for the one who pay attention about the quality and the planet, you can't choose what you will eat so you eat seasonal and it's very good ! Friendly dogs, nice people, you feel welcome and definitively you are not in a big brand hotel where you paid a lot and who doesn't care about the environment and the locals people.

Here it's calm and quiet, non overconsumption, just the peace.

I hardly recommend it !

We visited Las Chullpas in April 2012 and we were so pleased we did! It is unique and everyone who goes to the sacred valley should stay here. The breakfast is wonderful and Charlo is so helpful. We had a camp fire outside as our chimney was blocked in the room but the outdoor fire was even more perfect. This place is a real find and should be on everyones agenda when visiting the sacred valley

We stayed in the Eucalyptus room, which has an amazing bathroom. Our host, Chalo, helped us with our next booking, which turned out to be a great savings and a lovely setting. For every other of our requests, he was helpful and efficient. The setting is isolated, but you can get a taxi to town very easily. Be sure to walk down the road a bit. You'll see silver eucalyptus trees, running water from the canyon, livestock, and maybe a neighbor or two. If you want to eat dinner there, you can. We didn't but wished we had ordered it because it smelled so great. Breakfast is more than ample. Enjoy!

Room Tip: If you want an amazingly large bathroom, ask for the eucalyptus room.

Las Chullpas is a sanctuary in the Sacred Valley. We stayed for 5 nights and really didn't want to leave; Leonie, Chalo and Silvia have created and continue to foster a special place in the world. The rooms are more than comfortable (we stayed in Madre Salve) and the food was beyond amazing. The grounds are quiet and peaceful for reading/ mediating. We also had the extreme pleasure of hiking with Sergio- informative, intelligent, creative and gentle soul, who showed us parts of Peru we may have not seen on our own.

When I return to the Sacred Valley- I will stay at Las Chullpas again.
