We just returned from Peru, and really enjoyed our stay at Tambo del Inka. We chose the hotel due to the train station on property to travel to Machu Picchu, and that was a great decision. The train station is located on one side of the grounds, and was extremely convenient for our one day trip to MP. The hotel was beautiful, and the service was excellent, especially from the concierge. The hotel was fairly empty, other than one corporate group, so we were given an upgrade to a junior suite. The room was absolutely wonderful. We had a couples massage at the spa, which couldn't have been any better. Why only 4 stars? We had a very similar impression to Fizzmopper's review. There were certain little things that were irksome. We were so excited, after hiking MP all day, to sit in the hot tub at the beautiful indoor/outdoor pool, but were told that the hot tubs were not accessible to us - only for spa (which we had done the day before) and a women only hot tub. WHY???? These were out in the open, one level down and visible from the pool area. During our 48 hours at the hotel, I never saw a single person sitting in these two hot tubs. What a waste! The food at the hotel was OK. We had one lunch and one breakfast at the hotel. Near the end of our breakfast, I received a work call so I walked out onto the patio to take the call. The waiter refused to give the bill to my wife until I had returned, which appeared to be purely chauvinistic (this did not go over well with my wife!). Overall, this is a great resort with a lot to offer guests.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for letting us share Tambo del Inka magic with you!

It is comforting to realize that your overall experience in our resort was fantastic. However, I am deeply concerned for the situation you went through while in our restaurant. Our F&B Manager has been informed about this issue and he has refreshed all our personnel in service matters.

Thank you indeed for your comprhension and understanding and hope to welcome you back in our resort in time.

Respectfully,

Pablo Marconi

The Tambo del Inka is first class, which means you will pay. I was happy for the "Friends and Family of Starwood" employee discount program. Even with the discount it was still about $200 a night. Now that I said that lets get into the details:

What an awesome hotel! From the entrance and being greeted by the hotel staff, one could tell the hotel was going to be awesome. The entire hotel is very appealing to the eye. The only downfall is when you look out the back across the river and see the trash on the hillside, but that's not the hotel's fault. The rooms are super nice with a well laid out bathroom and closet. The breakfast buffet, included in the price of the room, is fully loaded with fruits, breads, deli meats, cheeses, hot items, cereals, and juices. Also one can get made to order eggs, french toast, and coffees also included in the price of the room! What a great way to start your day before Machu Picchu!

The only criticism I have about Tambo del Inca is that they forgot one of our bags when they picked them up in the room to deliver to our taxi out front. How they did that is beyond me, as all our bags and suitcases were together! Tip, no matter how great the service is, always check to see if they deliver all your bags! I was happy that they delivered the bag all the way to Cuzco within 3 hours, but that still does not make up for their mistake. Oh well, I'm over it!

If you stay, enjoy the luxury at its best!

Enjoy!!

Good morning,

Thank you for letting us share Tambo del Inka magic and Luxury with you!

Happy to see that you did enjoy staying at our resort even if some incoveniences with your bags. Concerned to know what happened but on the other hand, I see that my colleagues did send them to you in due time; even if it is not excuse.

Do thank you for your understanding and comprehension.

Too grateful to you that your overall experience was finally great. Definetely, as you mentioned, our buffet breakfast selection is wide and enjoyable to start up the journey of the day.

Do hope to welcome you back in time.

We had a lovely room and service consistent with a five star hotel. The grounds outside offer a delightful walk next to the river. The interior could be described as massive and beautiful. There were a couple of things that were disconcerting. Many groups came and went but few seemed to be at dinner. And the meals were delightful. However, in our opinion, the menu needs a lot of work. They need some simpler/lighter foods. Pasta dishes. Soups. Maybe a more casual menu for the bar. In fact, although it’s a fair walk, there were some nice restaurants out on the main street outside of the hotel. But you’d need your guide to point them out.

And they need to do something about the seating in the lobby. There is no support for your head which makes it extremely uncomfortable for a guy like me.

Room Tip: We were on the main, third floor. The rooms on the bottom level had patios where you could sit outs...

I recently stayed at the Tambo with some of my family. All of us loved the hotel. The hotel was absolutely gorgeous, very clean, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Little things like chocolate brought to the rooms in handmade boxes, romantic music left on each night, the forecast for the following day, free bottled water in the rooms etc, really were the icing on the cake.

I would absolutely stay here again, and if you are going to be in Urumbamba and have $ to spare, this is the place to stay!

Now, why I didn't give it 5 stars? Well for such a luxurious hotel that pays great attention to details and guest comfort, there were several things that were quite irksome which brought it down to 4/5 stars:

#1 Major Problem:
The hotel was HOT! For a place that is all about guest comfort and relaxation, I was surprised to find myself (and the rest of my group) very uncomfortable by the heat in the ENTIRE hotel. It felt like it was probably at 75-80 degrees (24-27C). During dinner one night we asked a waiter to prop open a door because everyone at the table was sweating. I felt very bad for the staff because they were all in suits, and when I asked a few staff members they all agreed with me right away that the temperature was uncomfortably hot.

- Medium problem:
The Jacuzzi in the pool area is for the spa services only. There is apparently another Jacuzzi but it is in the women's room?

- Minor problem:
No free wifi in the rooms. Not a huge problem, but you would expect the wifi to be free.

Except for charging for in-room wifi, everything about this hotel is wonderful. Huge, well appointed rooms, huge, comfortable common areas.
The restaurant, while pricey (like the hotel), is worth the cost (as is the hotel.

Concerning the Wi fi free connection, please let me explain to you that it is available in the mian lobby and public areas. Furthermore, we do have an available business center 24/7 and as per Starwood regulation, there is a service charge in the rooms.

Even this consideration, thank you for enjoying our food and other provided services.

Used Tambo del Inka as our main point for exploring the Sacred Valley. Spent 4 wonderful relaxing nights here. Thrilled that we chose this location for all of our sightseeing day trips. The hotel is about 40 minutes to most sites and about 21/2 hrs from Macchu Pichu.
Upon arrival we were greeted and had our check in by 2 hotel personnel. We were provided with coca tea. We also received an upgraded room (Starwood).
Room was just so luxurious, spacious, and immaculate. The bathroom was huge and amazing
The property itself has a very zen-like feel to it. The lobby area is so comfortable and has a huge open fireplace which is so comforting.
Service was excellent and we were addressed by name towards the end of our stay.
I am so thrilled that we chose this resort. I cannot imagine commuting daily from Cusco to visit the sacred valley sites.

We've stayed in great hotels around the world, but this one was the nicest, had the best service, and gave us a fantastic overall experience. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Sacred Valley.

Room Tip: Take the taxi from Cusco for 80 soles, and then branch out from Urubamba to see Pisac, Ollantaytambo...
