“Beautiful Hotel in Beautiful setting”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

I really liked this hotel. It is a beautiful hotel and is on the banks of the Urubamba river. We stayed in the standard room which was quite large with a walk in closet and large bathroom. Our room overlooked the river. We stayed 4 nights as part of a 2 1/2 week trip and used it as a base for day trips to sites in the Sacred Valley. We started out a this lower elevation before moving on to Machu Picchu and Cusco. It really is a beautiful hotel and good service. The food was fine, no complaints but not sure a real standout although we only really had one dinner in the hotel restaurant. The breakfast were included in our rates and it was a nice buffet. The one quibble was the turn down service. It was actually very nice but we didn't know until the last night because the person would come just as we were about to leave for dinner. We said to come back in a minute but he didn't. Other nights we notified house keeping we would be out so to do the turn down service and this never happened until the last night. pity.

In any case we enjoyed our time at this hotel and under the same circumstances would return and would recommend.

Room Tip: we liked the river view but I noticed that some reviewers prefer the mountain view.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your preference in Tambo del Inka!

I am happy to read your comments and realize that your experience was really outstanding while in our resort.

In fact, our location in the middle of the Sacred Valley gives all our guests an easier and faster access to other towns, communities and ruins nearby.

Thank you for your great appreciation to our staff, service, outlets and property itself.

Do hope to host you again in time.

Respectfully,

My family and I enjoyed two nights at Tambo del Inka. It's a very luxurious resort, beautifully designed and with excellent customer service. One of the biggest pluses is that the train to Machu Picchu stops just outside the hotel (literally a five minute walk to the station, however I think it is just one train per day from/to Urubamba so book early, otherwise you can arrange transportation to Ollynataytambo, where most people get on the train). Most people board in Ollyantaytambo, which is a bit closer to Machu Picchu.

The hotel has all the touches you would expect from a five-star resort hotel, with a beautiful design and pleasant outdoor walking path. Highly recommended if you want to spring for the luxury-- and the prices that come with it. Expect to pay $10/day for internet. Meals at the restaurant are quite expensive. Not meant as a complaint, just comes with the territory for these kinds of places.

We really enjoyed the indoor/outdoor heated pool at the spa. It would be nice if it were heated just a few degrees warmer, however, which leads to my only real complaint: there is no jacuzzi for men. The women's locker room has its own jacuzzi, while the men's locker room has a sauna. It's a rather glaring design flaw. There is an amazing pool-sized jacuzzi on the level below the pool, but it is permanently reserved for private hydrotherapy "treatments", which cost at least $30 and go up from there. I didn't see a single person using it while we were there, so for much of the day the hotel is sadly wasting money on an expensive ornament that most of its guests will never enjoy. If you want to enjoy a jacuzzi with your family, you're out of luck.

I'd strongly recommend that the open up the lower-level jacuzzi pool, or if they want both ways, open it for a few hours each day to all guests, then offer private "treatments" at other hours (maybe a combo hydrotherapy/massage package). Another option would be to install an outdoor jacuzzi next to the outdoor section of the pool.

Finally, to end on a good note, Cynthia at the spa provided amazing customer service. Terrific employee!

Smart travelers with time and good planning generally seek to make their way up the elevated steppes on their way to Macchu Picchu as the shock to the body may be considerable, especially for those not used to altitude ( I took this as a lame joke until I experienced the higher altitudes in Peru).
The hotel is very elegant and its grounds are beautiful in complete harmony with the environment. It is hard to believe that this piece of art sits on the edge of a market town. The decor is accomplished with successful play on lights and shape throughout the hotel and the rooms are very nice and comfortable. I must also commend the service which was impeccable save the checkout which was lengthy and messy because of a mistake in our bill.
Wifi is free at the lobby, which is a shame considering the cost of the hotel, and the breakfast is rather expensive, but I recommend trying it for its rich variety. Do not miss out on the quinoa pancakes! The hotel has an elegant restaurant and a chilled bar/restaurant, both are nice, but the bar area is cheaper although you may choose from the menu of the restaurant at the bar, whose waiters are very friendly and are bilingual.
Given the altitude and the adjustments needed I did not try the pool area which looked inviting. A train to the town hub that leads to Macchu Picchu stops right at the hotel. I did not like the set up of the TV for being too confusing.
The town is a good destination from where you may visit Inca ruins and tourist towns. We had the choice of using the hotel service for the visits but we ended up walking out to the road just outside the gate and negotiated increibly low rates for drivers to accompany us and stay with us all days. One of the members of our group is fluent in Spanish which helps obviously.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the creek are enchanting.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your preference in Tambo del Inka!

It is terrific to read your comments and realize the wonderful time you had while in our resort.

Our hotel building was designed by architect Bernardo Fort Brescia and the interior decor was created by Caparra Studio together with local artisans.

We are located in the middle of the Sacred Valley and this gives all our guests an easier and faster access to our towns, communities and ruins nearby.

Thank your for your kind appreciation on our staff, service, outlets and property and do hope to host you again in time.

We spent three days at Tambo del Inca and truly enjoyed our stay. This is a beautifully designed hotel with a warm inviting lobby and soaring ceilings decorated with local art. The rooms are large with all the amenities. The staff is excellent and attentive. The hotel restaurant is very good but I wouldn't call it five star; maybe three or four. They have a beautiful heated pool which extends to the outside. The exercise room is small with limited equipment such as a treadmill, elliptical, weight machine and small array of barbells. They also have a Spa.

Great place to stay and we'll be back.

If you are planning to take the train to Macchu Pichu this is a wonderful way to do it. The train station in right on the property! The first train leaves at 7:30 am and arrives in Agua Caliente
in about 2 hours. From there is a bus to take you up to the entrance of Macchu Pichu. However, if you're planning to climb the second peak at Macchu Pichu the same day, you may be cutting it too close. It takes about 2 hours to walk and take photos from the lower portion of Macchu Pichu. Once you're done, have lunch at the lodge. This is not a tough walk/hike without long vertical climbs. I saw a man with crutches on the trail but I wouldn't recommend it.

The second peak is for bragging rights or we're here so why not? Again, you need tickets in advance to do so! We didn't climb this second peak. Its about 1000 feet of mostly vertical climb. The record is 20 minutes roundtrip. The average is an hour but most choose to do it within 2 hours.

Just spent a couple of days at the Tambo Del Inca as a family and found it to be a great experience. What strikes you first as you as you get through the entrance hall is the warmth of the lobby, the beautiful interior design, striking. The garden is worth a morning stroll as well, beautifully manicured and bordering the Urubamba river
Service was impeccable, we also had a suite that opened on the garden and found it to be very nice. The food was fresh, organic, full of flavours and delicious (like many places in Peru) and for approx 100 US for the 4 of us including the famous Pisco sour and wine, I found it to be reasonable.
All in all the best hotel we have stayed in so far on this trip.

We stayed here during our trip to Macchu Pichu. Having been in a minibus for 5 hours to get there it was an oasis in the desert! The rooms are very well appointed with comfortable beds and all the amenities we needed. The food in the restaurant was innovative and tasty albeit expensive. Of all the 5 star hotels we stayed at during this trip this one was the best.

We were delighted to be staying at Tambo del Inka. It is one of the most beautiful properties we stayed in on our Peruvian journey. Unfortunately we had a couple of issues whilst staying there which soured our stay. The ground floor suite was dark & poorly lit, smelt musty and the air conditioning unit was noisy so we were forced to turn it off at night & sleep with the door open. We had a spa treatment during our stay which, due to technical problems!!!!, there was no music during the entire 3 hours. Our various issues were addressed to the management who unfortunately didn't handle the situation very well. Having worked in hospitality these issues could have been sorted quickly & efficiently but they left us disappointed with our visit. The restaurant was great, service excellent and food fantastic. The artwork and fit out is just beautiful BUT they need to get their act together in providing equivalent in guest service & expectations. I would recommend not staying in the ground floor garden rooms.
Management have been in contact since arriving home so we have given them the feedback.

Room Tip: Choose a front facing room looking with a view of the snow capped mountains.
