This is a beautiful hotel and one of the best we stayed at in Peru. Rooms were very comfortable and well designed. Buffet breakfast was very good. One problem was the cost of tours organized by the hotel. We were able to organize a horse riding tour locally for $15 a person. Hotel was charging $100 a person for a similar tour. Even a walking tour was $100 a person. You could hire a great Peruvian guide for a week for that much! Only other problem was the swimming pool was very small and not heated, so it was impossible to swim. Probably would be warmer in summer.

I have stayed twice at Sol y Luna. Sol y Luna provides the perfect environment for a tranquil and pampered retreat. Whether you are interested in sports, outstanding cuisine, attentive service,, a magnificent setting or visiting ruins and local villages, Sol y Luna will answer all of your needs. In addition, the owners' committed support to local causes extends their philosophy of providing care not only to their guests but also to the surrounding community.

We are seasoned travelers and the Sol y Luna exceeded all our very high expectations. The setting is spectacular; the service utterly attentive and invisible; the food out of this world. We stayed for 6 nights and visited Macchu Picchu and several other sights in the Sacred Valley. The hotel arranged fascinating excursions with excellent guides in which every detail was addressed from intelligent itineraries to delicious lunches. Our room was not only comfortable, the bathroom exquisite, but we found fresh flowers and fresh pastries there every day. The overall experience was a 10.

I totally, 100% loved Hotel y Luna. The bungalows are 2-story, the upstairs had an i-pod & speakers, tv, dvd player, & movies. Every night around 9:00 we went upstairs and watched a movie, ate the delicious fresh fruit provided for us and snuggled up on the couch. There were fresh bouquets of flowers throughout, including some incredible calla lilies. Chocolates upon arrival. Those little things make such a difference in making you feel like a king or queen! The beds were comfortable & clean. The bathroom modern and clean. The gardens are paradise. We used the hotel as our base to explore the Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu - I highly recommend doing that. You get a break from the busy touristy cities. We stayed for 3 days. Oh, the food was fantastic too.

If there is any downside, it is 1. the spa is too expensive and 2. They call expensive cabs for you. We did much better finding our own cab by walking out on the street.

Thank you Hotel y Luna for making this the best part of our vacation!!

We've just returned from 18 days in Ecuador and Peru and were very impressed with all the hotels we stayed in.

The Sol y Luna was one of the best. Situated in Urubamba, about 40 minutes drive NW of Cusco on the road to Ollantaytambo (a "must see" Inca site) the hotel is set in quite magnificent grounds awash with beautifully landscaped trees, flowers and shrubs.

Accommodation is in private Andean-style villas built of adobe, are lavishly equipped and decorated in a style which blends in with the location. Ours was fitted with 2 queen beds, there was plenty of storage and the room had a portable radiator if the nights got chilly. The en-suite facilites were excellent with a shower big enough for 4!

The restaurant served wonderful a la carte dishes - a mixture of international and Peruvian cuisine. However, the wine list was a bit pricey I thought, with the cheapest (Peruvian!) bottle costing $20 US.

The hotel has a nice pool, spa, large exercise room, tennis court and riding facilities. There is evening entertainment on occasion, outdoors near the stables.

The staff were superb - always polite, considerate and extremely helpful. We were sorry our 2-day stay was that short!

This hotel is ideally situated to explore the Sacred Valley and to visit Machu Picchu. If you stay in Cusco before you visit MP, you need to get up at 0430 to catch the train! Staying at the Sol y Luna in Urubamba means you leave at the more civil hour of 0715 to drive to Ollantaytambo station. In any event, the train ride from there to MP is the more scenic segment of the trip.

Would we go there again? We'd insist on it!

We spent 3 quiet days here in between some quite energetic travelling, and it fitted the bill perfectly for a restful stay. The natural setting is beautiful, and the rooms are a sensitive combination of ethnic design and modern comfort. The gardens are beautiful too, and really well maintained. In addition, the restaurant was very good with high quality food.
We were perhaps fortunate that there were very few fellow guests; we can understand that large noisy groups could puncture the beauty on offer quite easily. We also had a sense that some elements of the facilities on offer were overpriced - and as a small example a bottle of Chiliean wine on sale in the shop for 45 dollars costs 15 dollars in the UK!
Overall, a lovely setting, good facilities and helpful staff.

While this place was gorgeous, and the room was gorgeous, we were glad to only stay one night. We avoided the other guests - there was a large, obnoxious group from NYC (wasn't really suprising), and didn't even bother with the spa. Ridiculously expensive. We kept to ourselves and were happy with that, but would definitly not base an entire trip out of this location. The worst part was the cab that they arranged - they gave us the option of a $25 per person shuttle bus outside of Cuzco, or arranging a cab for us. They told us there would be a pre-arranged price of 50 soles for the cab, (steep, but we were ok with it). The cab driver picked us up and when we got there, charged us 80 soles! I thought that I must have misunderstood the hotel on the phone, as we were speaking in Spanish, and my spanish is limited. Then, on the way back to Cuzco, we had the same driver, and when we arrived in Cuzco, he charged us 100 soles!!! It was still supposed to be 50. I was so angry, but he claimed that he had to charge us extra because he had to come all the way out to Urubamba from Cuzco. We were forced into paying him (short of just running into our hotel), and then wrote a curt letter to the hotel explaining what had happened, and advising them to be more up front about cab prices. We never heard back from them - and reading these reviews confirms that the managment here is absolutly ridiculous. We also paid about $12 dollars to have a few shirts and pairs of socks and underwear laundered here. Again, may be reasonable for NYC, but in Cuzco, I paid about 8 dollars to have probably close to 15 lbs of laundry washed and ironed.

It was gorgeous, but overall, a hastle.
